Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

well, it's a lazy fix if that's the case.

for me it's almost a dealbreaker to be honest. first time I noticed it it was merely a "wtf" moment, but when I could re-loot houses in Whiterun it took away a whole lot of the game. it just made everything feel even more generic and reduntant.

Morrowind's world felt hand-crafted with all sorts of interesting places and hidden objects to find. somehow I don't feel this with Skyrim. dungeons often have a unique touch which makes them fun to explore, but there's never really anything special to discover in them.

Yes and the stuff you could find had actually a value even.

Nothing was as exciting then coming across deadric ruins with the hope to find anything deadric inside of them.

I guess the cicle repeats itself again. As always it takes some time for bethesdas games to sink in due to the ammount of stuff present in them. At first the game looked pretty decent, but as i played on and saw most of the places, it just turned into a grinding routine, because apart from exploration this game doesn't have anything good that would carry the load of "being interesting". Story is weak, characters are weak, the combat is much more fun than Oblivion, but since the skill system is so dry it also gets tedious.

It's not a bad game, but nothing special either.

This. Finding the epic loot in Morrowind was one of the best parts of the game in my experience.

Why Bethesda did away with unique static loot is beyond me (well, I know why they did it, it's the mindset I'm questioning). Loot scaling is an abomination.

huh? Wasn't there only 1 whole set of daedric armor you can collect in MW? I think you have to kill a major quest NPC for the other set.
Only with both expansions were you able to get a full suit without killing Fyr, but that's the point, Daedric has the reputation of being the most rare and expensive armor in all of Tamriel, it's made of ebony infused with essences of gods for christ sake, and in Oblivion, bandits were wearing it, and in Skyrim, you can forge it, which is less ridiculous, but still so.

Yeah, exactly, I don't remember, but I doubt you could get Daedric armor in Daggerfall, since I don't remember wearing them at the end of the game. (It has been 15 years, mind you)

I also recall that in MW, even the modders were more considerate, the Daedric armor remodeling mod (change its looks) that I got didn't give me a free set. And the other older mod I got that did give some free Daedric armor required me to break into a house with a hidden basement that had 4 level 100 magically locked doors.

And some of the fun in Daggerfall and MW were the Daedric quests, with some of it fun but not ultimately uber loot. (edit: it's wabbajack comes to mind) They were certainly unique, but that doesn't make it like BFG9000. Randomly stumbling onto a Daedric ruin + quest while freeroaming was part of the fun in MW.

That aspect is fortunately kept in Skyrim. As always, there are quests for all 16 Daedric lord (even poor neglected Merhunes Dagon) and they wield unique rewards. They are also amongst the game's best quests because while Bethesda somewhat sucks at developping a decent series of quests they are good at building individual ones. Not all of them are started at shrines, however.

During one of the Morrowind's daedric quest, Nerevarine have had to defeat some tough monster while he was wielding a fork instead of weapon. That's pretty strong roleplaying, poking monsters with a fork.

Well, there were no Daedric shrines in Daggerfall, so there were only 2-3 ways to get the Daedric quests. Get to rank 6 in the mages guild, or rank 7 in most temples, which was still somewhat pain in the arse. The only other way is to find the impossible to find witch covens. In Daggerfall, if you didn't know where something is, the likelihood of you stumbling onto it by roaming is slim to none. In terms of mages guild summonings, if you miss the summoning day of the Daedric Prince you are interested in, than you are kinda screwed, because you have to wait for a full year before trying again. And sometimes the weather conditions can affect your summonings, which is how a lot of players met Sheogorath. Witches covens were complete crap shoots, unless you are looking for a fun way to use your lycanthropy, which required you to look for a specific type of witch covens. Witch covens summons completely a completely random Daedric Prince, and if it's someone you summoned before, it sics high level Daedric mobs on you. :P

So I just killed Alduin, it was kind of cool and all but that was a pretty short main quest. I still got the Civl War questline to complete anyways, and now I have my Dragon Plate armor set so time to kill the Stormcloaks I guess.

Just visited Blackreach, damn this place is beautiful. There's a sort of poesy to the whole thing. By far the game's best area.

That said, the more I go, the more the cracks in the gameplay appear. Every shopkeeper and their mother has Elven and even Glass gear, many Shouts become useless (Fire Breath just doesn't do enough damage), high-level mages 2-shot me and have huge HP pool (wtf is that about, anyway?) while dragon fights are little but speedbumps most of the time. Well, once I had a Frost Dragon land while I was battle a couple of Giants. That was one hectic and fun battle. Rest of the time? Shoot arrows, wait for them to land, Marked for Death shout, hack away with sword and go back to breezehome because they have 100 pounds of loot -_-.

It's not like I revealed any plot improtant events, I just said that I killed the big bad, a surprise? a huge spoiler nobody expects? only "spoilery" thign I mentioend is that I tought it wa pretty short.

I didn't know that was the end boss and I've worked pretty hard not to get any of the main story spoiled.

The developers in their awesome mind decided that enemy mages have spells with level with them while the player is stuck always with the same "damage".

At least warriors can use enchanting to boost their damage. Particularly if the skills in smithing and alchemy are as well very high. So you can easily get a huge and insane damage with your weapons.

It just seems to be like a huge killer to immersion that you at some point stay on your "level" with the spells while all the mages around you get stronger the more you level up. So they end up sometimes with a frost or fire spell which kills you in 2 shots while you deplete our whole magicka on them.

Not to mention the master spells also do damage to any companion and friendly NPC around you ! Heh.

And I agree at higher levels the shouts become rather useless.

Well then you cant be really all that far in to it. Not to mention that many sides mention that dragon as well. So it is not really a THAT huge spoiler. I mean even some Trailers say "Alduin the world eater" is returning or something.

well, I don't really care for trailers and I don't look up all sorts of info online solely for this reason.

and no, I've barely touched the main story. are you trying to say I only have myself to blame?

this might not be the biggest spoiler ever, but it just ticks me off that people can't have the decency to avoid spoilers. a couple of years after the game is released, sure. but we're still in the first few weeks of Skyrim being out and I think it's only fair to expect people not to reveal the main story without any sort of warning.

I've got ~120 hours and I've still left the main quests pretty much untouched. I don't even know who Alduin is. I'm a whore for side quests.
If you're having a bunch of CTDs, try the 4GB Skyrim executable. I seriously have not had one crash in about 40 hours of gameplay. I dropped my shadow draw distance to 3500 around the same time, so I'm not positive that the 4GB launcher made the difference, but I was crashing every 3-4 hours of gameplay before applying those two changes.

Just a bit yes.

Naw. In all seriousness. You now know who is the biggest mofo in the game that you have to beat. Big deal! I am just saying you would realise that after playing the main quest for I don't know 10 min. anyway. - more or less they really don't make a "secret" out of it Beth stories contain no twists or anything its not like telling you the endgame of Fallout 1 or something. I am not trying to blame you for anything but if you really don't want to hear ANYTHING about skyrims story parts then you should not browse any skyrim related informations at all.

Well, my post a few days back was a case of famous last words. Since then I've been getting really bad frame rate issues, more freezes requiring a reboot than I care to count and tonnes of corrupt save files. In fact I swear the game screwed some of my New Vegas saves. I haven't touched NV since Skyrim came out but after a recent crash, when I went to check/delete corrupt Skyrim saves, I discovered two corrupt NV saves that weren't corrupt the day before, when I deleted other crap Skyrim saves. In reading various posts around the net, a lot of PS3 users are complaining about problems the game is causes their drives.

That aside, the game is getting boring now. I haven't played any of the previous Elder Scrolls games and at first, I liked the character design and skills. Now... I think it's a steaming pile of shit. Apparently, you can't play a "class" in this game. With my one-handed, light armour and some other skills maxed, now the only way I can gain XP and continuing levelling up is using heavy armour and two handed weapons and blocking with shields and useless schools of magic that I don't want to use.

So... oooh... I just run around with a shield on one hand and a heal spell in the other. Block, block, let 'em hit me, heal, repeat. Bah.

Definitely agree, I remember being damn greedy for Daedric items, even going as far as raiding the Great House vaults in Vivec and exploiting a summon Dremora bug.
