Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

So... oooh... I just run around with a shield on one hand and a heal spell in the other. Block, block, let 'em hit me, heal, repeat. Bah.

Bethesda are the only "people" on the planet that think if you stand and allow others to smack the crap out of you, you will naturally grow resistant to the pain...or magically level up.

Well, my initial fun with Skyrim has indeed descended into frustration with crap crashes and freezes (like I told my Missus last night... for every 60 minutes I'm actually only getting about 15-20 of gaming and the rest is rebooting) and being forced to use skills I never wanted to use to try and level up. But it's almost pointless. The only challenging foes in the game now are ancient dragons.

Lower level characters are so much more fun.

The level scaling of monsters still bugs the hell out of me. I'm at level 42, closing in on what is presumably the end of the Thieve's Guild quests and I'm in a dungeon that's fucking lousy with Falmer Shadowlurker (taking on 4-5 at a time). Focusing on Archery, Conjuration, and Alchemy means one misstep and I can say good-bye to half my health from just one arrow because those fuckers hit for a whallop.

S oI got hte Sanguine Rose Staff from the quest, it's description almost gives a warning that the summon could be on the side of the target or on my side....wich can easily be exploited and made meaningless if I use one of my companions as the target.
Also I completed the civil war questline
[spoiler:bee371df20] and when going into Windhelm I kept having a problem where my companion either dissappears or runs of to fight without me noticing, I called the Dragon to make the whole affair easier (and gotta admit it was pretty awesome to stomr the place with a dragon roasting the enemy soldiers from above, decapitating Ulfric was good but then, the only changes were the Jarls on some cities, and those cities happened to be the ones I already had residence in, except for Dawnstar, I was checking the Palace of kings post battle and found a Jarl I didn't even recognized, the Jarl of Riften was justifiably pissed at me, it was fun specially because I now use Uflirc's clothes as Out of battle apparel.

Also I am trying to follow that quest you get when you copy the Elder Scroll int othe blank Lexicon and talk with the Daedric Lord, I got all the blood samples easily except for the High Elf one, does anyone know a good place to kill non plot relevant High Elf npcs? I would be happy with a Thalmor house or somethign too
[/spoiler:bee371df20]

Occasionally you'll see a Thalmor group escorting a Nord prisoner on the roads of the overworld. If you're not too far into the main quest, you'll have an opportunity to kill plenty of them in the embassy infiltration quest.. A special quest for the Thieve's Guild in Windhelm (which you get after grinding the Radiant quests for them) has you killing a group that consists entirely of High Elves.

I "finished" the game. I say finished because I completed the two main quest lines, the return of the dragons and the Empire vs the Stormcloaks. Really what do you do after that? Nothing. Sure, you can keep playing by doing a bunch of meaningless thieves guild jobs, random bounties, etc but that's rather boring.

Got 49/50 trophies but couldn't get the Oblivion Walker achievement because I had three broken Daedra quests. Can't understand why Bethesda focuses on patching absurd exploits people find and not broken quests. If someone wants to cheat the game with exploits... so what? It's a single player game, not an MMO so who cares?

I'm still pissed of that I can't dual wield shields. It ruins my Immersion!

Just found out you can do this in Dungeons of Dredmore and it's a really effective thing to do with certain builds.

With almost 100 Sneak and AC2 kind of a play I'm still not bored somehow. Liked Dark Brotherhood and Thieves quest lines. Still have to see all that's left after that.
What bothers me the most are dragons. At first I liked the idea of them showing up and getting me into a corner because I was weak. But then, every couple of fast travels one appears out of nowhere. I killed 20 of them and I don't know how to shout "leave me the fuck alone so I can explore the world more!". The part of the game they hyped the most was dragon fighting. It's good in the beginning. But killing a boss typo of enemy every 20 mins makes the game lose all the charm in it. And bores me to death, I find myself crouching just to get away from the pest. Can't take a piss without him appearing in the woods. Stupid.

On the bethforum a modder has posted a mod that increases performance up to 40% (?).

This patch will improve your frame rate by up to 40% in all CPU-dependent situations, i.e. especially in cities.
It works mostly by rewriting some x87 FPU code and inlining a whole ton of useless getter functions along the critical paths because the developers at Bethesda, for some reason, compiled the game without using any of the optimization flags for release builds.

At the moment it causes scripting errors, though.

Go Bethesda coders!

well was there really ANY doubt that dragons will become the new Cliffracers ?

There are mods out there which remove the "random dragons" for you.

Wow, that's lol-worthy indeed. I hope they don't end up releasing a debug version next time, that would be like 5x times as bad.

This is just so good. Best Skyrim mod ever.

Awesome! :D

But those inventory, category and favorites organized mods are a bliss. It was very hard for Beth to do it themselves obviously.

Did anyone get Thalmor High Elves on the road?
One of them apparently think you're a heretic worshiping Talos, even as a Dark Elf.

I haven't been reading much lately but does anybody know wether a PS3 patch has been released for this game? Because the game had some freeze issues just like Fallout NV and Fallout 3.

I am liking most of the Daedric Quests, except for the one about the Ancient Razor sword, it seemed kind of dumb and amateurish, lets just say that has one of those "Make a chocie between two moral opposite actions, just because". I liked the In the Mind of Madness quest (had a stupid name) and the A Night to remember if only because Daedric Princes are the characters with more character in the game.

I am actually enjoying this game. I was skeptical at first but there is just so much content that It's like sifting through dirt and trying to find nuggets of gold. It has me hooked.

However, that girl in the video a few pages back who was showing off her cleavage while reviewing the game had it right on a few points - mainly that most of the characters are extremely forgettable. Besides the fact that the voice actors are reused for dozens of different characters none of the NPCs have distinct personalities. I mean I know the people in the game aren't supposed to be cartoon characters but where's the fun eccentricities that spice up a persona?

Furthermore I'm almost level 30 and the only quests I can remember doing are the Thieve's Guild quests and one about a mysterious white phial of liquid. It may just be my terrible inability to remember things but there's just so much fucking stuff to do and so many lines of dialogue everything just gets muddled.

But that's just the thing: there's so much stuff. It's like throwing shit against a wall hoping for something to stick, and eventually something does. Eventually you discover some new dragon shout or something that makes you excited. That's what makes the game so addicting, and that's why I intend to play it until the end.

One final note on the dialogue: It's very well written but most of the dialogue choices are just meant to give the player the illusion of freedom. In actuality there is basically no player choice when it comes to changing the direction of a conversation and that sucks.

I was surprised with this. They have a good writer I give them that. But almost no choices. Something that looks like choice, like persuade options, transfer into one single approach or outcome. It's either fight them all or don't. That's not RPG. But it is enjoyable in it's own, action oriented way.

The massiveness of the game is what saves it mostly. If I weren't digging all the holes on the map I would have finished the game and uninstall it much sooner. Glad they have that worked out at least. Bleackreach is awesome imho.
The only RPG thing in Skyrim is character creation, everything else is action. Because I play as a thief, Assassins Creed 2 with RPG elements is the experience what I get out most of it. It looks like they recycled Oblivion and added more content.
Overrated game, not too much like Fail3, but it is. Action, yeah. Revolutionary RPG, hell no. But try to explain that to 10 million people...
This game actually made me miss playing FNV when I realized how little choices or game changes are not present in it.
