Re: Metzger dialog bug

I can provide a saved game if it would help.

I don't believe that's necessary, as that part is being overhauled a bit for the RP 1.4 release.

So, we ever gonna any kind of new info on possible time table for 1.3? Earlier it was said near the end of summer.. So we looking at august? Or, possibly later? Any clue at all from the powers that be?

I'm no astronomer, astrologer, or druid, but I'm pretty sure summer ends the third week of September. Besides, timetables on something you work on for fun suck.

Sorry, may I ask where to find Marcus armor?

"If you are playing with the NPC Armor Mod installed, you can obtain a metal armor for Marcus here. Talk to Trader Bill and ask him if he's found anything special, and he will offer to sell you the armor for $3000. Marcus has to be in your party though. "

I know it is in Abbey, but I look all over the map still cannot find TRADER BILL
Is he inside the abbey? or outside the ground? or underground?

Please give me some hint >.<

@ ckwongr,

Trader Bill is at the bottom of the screen on the main Abbey map (across from the Abbey). You have to walk around close to the building to find the door.

dialog bugs at the Abbey

When talking to the leader at the Abbey:

It seems like something isn't properly connected in this dialog:
PC: "Do you need any help here at the monastery"
leader: "Really? Please do tell."
PC: "It seems the motor has gone out..."

And this is just a grammar issue:

PC: "Do you anything about the original founders?"
should be:
PC: "Do you know anything about the original founders?"

It is about time I made an official statement about the current state of RP 1.3. Lack of news can be alarming and it is good to know what is happening.

I've already mentioned some of this before, but a rehash is always nice.

Originally, RP 1.3 (as determined about a year ago) was going to be a bug fix release - more so than 1.2 - and add in 3 recruitable npcs at the EPA. The npcs were already there but dialogue, etc was not there. This goal was met, but ambition took over and new goals were made. Focus of 1.3 then shifted to new areas.

1. Improve the dialogue found in all the new RP locations

Dialogue found in these location was inconsistent, sometimes incorrect in terms of cannon, and just plain did not live up to the dialogue found in the rest of the game.

I have been working with Dravean and others in regards to this and I am about 90% done going through the revisions sent to me. So far I feel the dialogue is much improved and flows nearly seamlessly with the rest of the game.

2. Revamp of the EPA (in terms of maps, dialogue, etc)

The EPA is the only RP location we actually have an original design doc for from BIS. The intent of the RP is to stay as true to original BIS intentions as possible and the EPA just didn't come out as it should have.

New maps are in the works and coming along nicely. They truly look amazing and are the product of the talented individual I mention below. Once the maps are done, I will sit down with my RP contributors and go over dialogue and content changes.

3. Enhancements to all maps in the game (both original and RP)

This was something I had not originally planned for. Nearly a year ago I was approached by an extremely dedicated individual who had gone through all the maps in the game and enhanced them to a new level. I cannot describe what the changes are, as it must be experienced firsthand, but I assure you that it is an improvement much for the better. Of course, these maps will be optional as I do not wish to force them on anymore. However, I truly feel that once you play with them you won't ever go back to the old maps.

4. Including the Shi submarine

This is the final massive piece of new content I plan to add to the RP. Inclusion of this is only possible thanks to the amazing graphics work done by Continuum. Without the models he created I would have nothing to go on.

Version 1 of a design doc has been written for this area and hopefully soon a final one will be decided upon. From there, dialogue must be written and then everything coded.

Though I want to include this area in RP 1.3, I cannot make any promises. This release has been delayed for far too long and it really isn't fair to let everyone suffer. I've got the bad habit of trying to cram as much as possible into a release and I need to stop it since it delays releases by far to much time.

5. Cram as much goodness in as possible

This is a miscellaneous section that has no influence on the release date of 1.3. Mostly this is just new animations that are made by the NMA modding community that I have worked into various aspects of the game. Don't worry though as the ones that make the most change are optional.

Well, there you have it. I thought an update would be healthy for everyone since it seems that many have lost faith in seeing a release. Do note that I have not disclosed a release date in this update. End of summer still sound reasonable to me though.

This is more than worthwhile to wait for! My thanks and admiration for your dedication and hard work, Killap! :)

@killap
Could you give us a hint as to what sort of improvements were done to the maps?
- layout changes?
- critter changes?
- item placement changes?
- resolution changes?

I'm most interested to know if the critters were tweaked, some maps were definitely in need of some re-balancing in this regard.

No rebalancing. Just enhancements graphically - resolution, scenery, lighting, etc.

Definitely an improvement in terms of atmosphere over the original maps.

Hopefully nothing too HQ graphics; my shitty computer certainly can't run anything with even a little bit new graphics.

Wow, now I'm even more excited, and am hoping you put the Shi Sub off until 1.4 so that we get the 1.3 awesomeness sooner.

We always knew the delays were for good. But just thinking how RP 1.2 and RP 1.3 will have so few things in common is great. I really want to see these new maps.

I'm damn happy about EPA revamp, because frankly, I always thought it was crap. No offense, it just needed a lot of polish.

Also, are there any custom graphics in the upgrade of maps or did the dude just add more of the old stuff?

Don't think in terms of enhanced graphics, as that's not really what was done. Instead, he used what was available to make the maps more detailed and realistic. Also, the maps now look great under high resolutions, which I know a lot of people have been asking for. There *are* some "enhancements" to some of the graphics, but I don't want to ruin the surprise.

Anyway, don't worry, it's nothing that you'd need a new PC to enjoy.

I'm a bit of a "Fallout purist", so I was skeptical of using re-done maps. But now, as Killap said, I don't think I'd ever want to revert back. The changes are conservative enough so they don't alter the feel or atmosphere of the maps, they only enhance them. I think you guys are going to love it.

Soo.. according to killap and all that 'extra' stuff they're putting in. We should expect 1.3 to be released.. sometime shortly after DukeNukem Forever then? Well, waiting is always good I guess.
