Another thing are the encounters for example patrol unit with some dogs subduing slavers. They never cooperate resulting in my fight with slavers alone when the dogs get killed.
The same thing goes for example Slavers defending against some molerats and wolfs-those two don't cooperate either. And so on....
I had this same problem.

Also, if you kill Metzger before doing Lara's mission in the Den, that mission becomes unavailable. :(

Who exactly am I supposed to speak to regarding the squatters in the Den West, for Mom & Bobby, to start the Orphanage?

I talked to Bobby - spoke to mom - and then, she asked me to remove some squatters from "a large building in the Western part of the Den" (may not be a 100% exact quote.) I can only assume she's talking about either Lara's gang ("squatters?") or Flick's building. I murdered Flick the first day I entered the Den; is he who I was supposed to talk to?

To make matters worse, now, when I return to Mom, she will only give me the dialogue as if we were meeting for the first time. ("You're not my mom.", "What's to eat?" (or similar), and the goodbye option. Exploring these options does not reveal the rest of the conversation options I had, regrettably.

[edit] Oh, I suppose since this is my very first post, it's as good a place as any to say - AMAZING job on this patch. It has absolutely revitalized my interest in the game. Thank you so much - all of you who contributed - for doing this. [/edit]

The squatters are in a building just next to Bobby (residential map).
In previous versions of the RP that map was located to to the west, but has now been moved to the south. Mom's text could do with a small edit though.

It's no longer possible to fly vertibird to the oil rig in RP 2.x.

It's a shame, I thought it was a nice feature...

It was an interesting feature, but it was cut for a couple reasons.

1. There's no evidence to support that the original developers intended to allow the PC to fly a vertibird to the Oil Rig, and in fact, what evidence we do have contradicts it.

2. It was way too quick and easy to fly to the oil rig compared to going through all the steps of getting the tanker ready. So the options weren't balanced.

3. Players would miss out on the fmv sequence of the tanker sailing to the oil rig, which is arguably the coolest video sequence in the game.

4. It simply didn't make sense that the Chosen One could escape the Oil Rig in a vertibird with all his villagers in tow--there's not nearly enough space.

So, while it's a neat idea, and could be made to work with some more changes, it's not exactly within the scope of the RP, and thus it was removed.

Ohh-one more logic error regarding EPA-it is good as it is but it should be better. Well- at EPA we have crayoned npcs waiting before the war (so the base was abandoned very long ago-at least some time after the war+vault dweller life and his children) and at epa we have some humans with implanted personalities(wow that makes them real old-they are like 200 to 500 years old :D hey-they are better then Adam and Eve :D)

The "humans" in the petting zoo have been cared for by the EPA's automated systems. So those aren't the same generation of "humans" from when the bombs first dropped. It wasn't until recently that the robots that serviced them finally broke down and they've been unable to get food and have thus gone mad with starvation.

Indeed. That needs to be fixed.

Hi. First, I want to thank KillaP for his great work that increases the replay value of this great game. It's great to have new areas and quests.

Okay, here's my problem. I don't have the background music while playing. I have a DATA/SOUND/MUSIC directory with a bunch of .acm's. That's what's supposed to be playing, right? Is there some settings I could tinker with to correct this? And I installed the mod over an installation in which the official patch (provided on the retail DVD) was already installed. I'm on level 14 and so far the missing music and a couple of crashes I couldn't recreate seem to be the only glitches. I saw somewhere that it's recommended to use a clean installation of the game. Is this going to be a problem?

Well, I got the music working. What I did was I copied the savegame folder for safekeeping, uninstalled the mod, then "uninstalled" the game (I just deleted the installation folder, since there was no uninstalling option on the disc). Then I installed the game again, which went fine (as far as copying the files is concerned). But when I tried to run the game, I got a message saying that "fallout requires 20 megs of free disc space" or some such nonsense - and there's almost 200 gigabytes of free space on that drive. So, I removed the folder again and I tried the manual installation of the game as instructed here http://www.nma-fallout.com/article.php?id=1593. It still wouldn't run, got the same bogus message about nonsufficient free space. I googled a bit and found out that I'm not the only one with this problem. As instructed, I added the line "[system] - free_space=0" to the fallout2.cfg. Hurray! It worked and I got a working 1.0 version of the game. I installed the RP 2.1.2.b mod again and added the savegame folder - and now there's music. Yay!

Think there's a minor bug with the VC guards outside the corrections center. They mention that I only have until 6pm even though I'm in the city with the fake citizenship papers... I'm guessing their check is only for a citizenship true/false condition without taking the false papers into account... dunno if its something worth fixing....

Yes Rp is compatible with Windows Vista/7. Just remember to not install Fallout in Program Files and you can have some graphic problems, but those can be fixed by editing proper line in ddraw.ini it is mentioned few pages back.

Hi all, i remember seeing this mod a few years back but never got to try it.
Will correct that mistake now but i do have a few questions.

If i install restoration project, do i need to install the unofficial patch or they come together?

Is there a restoration project for Fallout 1 as well?

Thanks.

Given the context, a mean person might make a joke about that.

Try reading the first post of this thread. Or the instructions in the installer when you run it.

I think a similar type of project is going on, at least there's a thread going on with a title like that on the front page of the forum..

No problem. :D

Hi everyone

After failing to get the megamod working I'm having a go with the restoration project and it's great so far!

I'm just stuck with one question though...

How on earth do I get into Navarro? In the original I could go to the base (avoiding the Enclave soldiers) and speak to the guy with the robes or sneak into the base underground...now I can't even find the base...I've gone to the square where it should be (checked the world map online to be sure) and it's not there.

I still get random encounters and attacked by the Enclave squaddies but no base...am I missing something? Has it been disabled so people can't stumble upon or has it been moved?

Thanks. :)

Maybe it's been a while since you played. There are no bugs or changes here. You must get a quest first. Navarro does not appear in the game until you do so. The game has always been structured this way. It's mentioned in various walkthroughs. Enclave patrols will be encountered in the vicinity of Navarro whether it's been located on the world map or not.

[spoiler:ec84aea24e]Get the quest to retrieve the Vertibird plans in San Francisco from either the Brotherhood of Steel or the Shi Temple. Then Navarro will appear on your world map. [/spoiler:ec84aea24e]

Ahhhhhhhhhh right!!!

Thanks very much! :D

Yes it's been ages since I played last, I should have checked a walkthrough!

Thanks very much. :)

One more question...

Is it possible to enable hi-res modes with the restoration patch?

I think I read somewhere (either on here or in a readme I forget which now) that hi-res wasn't supported but might be in the future...I don't know how outdated that comment was though.

I've got it running at full screen (1920x1200) but it's very blocky and not showing any more on screen than it used to when it first came out.

If it's not supported in the restoration patch, is there another patch that can be combined with it to increase the resolution?

Thanks. :)

Moonrise,
the High-Res patch is integrated into RP as a default option.
Settings are accessible through the main game menu -> Options -> SCRN
(you can also edit the "f2res.ini" file manually)

Thanks very much!

WOW!!! It's amazing!

I did look in the options but didn't even see the scrn button

In random encounters I can almost see the whole map on one 24" screen at 1920x1200 - that's amazing!

The characters seem to move so slowly now it's such a bigger viewable!

I am extremely anxious in finally playing this RP but, unfortunately having Windows 7 Ultimate I am encountering numerous artifacts when even installing the basic game of Fallout [1.0]. How can this be remedied before even installing the RP?

Thank You

The simplest solution is actually to install the RP. Fallout 2 (or Fallout 1 for that matter) isn't especially compatible with Windows 7, but sfall (and/or Mash's high-res patch) makes it much more compatible with Windows 7. Both are included in Killap's Restoration Project.

Just peaking in here after some time away. I really appreciate everyone working together to answer questions, etc. Thanks!

In the next week or so I will begin going through the fairly long bug wiki for the RP. I have a feeling many of those issues I'm not going to be able to solve (as a result of faulty installations, individual flukes, etc), but we'll see. As I said some time ago, an RP update is planned for Christmas/New Year. It should just be a stability update, but maybe some new graphics, etc will work their way in.

Do you intend to change the nsis installer to detect if the OS is windows vista, 2008 or 7? To detect if fallout 2 is installed in program files in one of those OSes to avoid the installation of the patch/RP in program files in order to finish once and for all the annoying questions that always show here regarding problems for installing the game/patch/RP there? I'd recommend a message warning everyone that install fallout 2 and any other games there is a mistake. ;)

What will be done of all the stuff reported here?

Is there any other stuff that can be changed in the installer to avoid dumb questions in the future? :P
