my problem isn't change. new reno second street still have crashing error, and i have no idea about that.

i already tried replaying but same situations...

so, restart and clear arroyo temple and going straight to new reno.
going inside, and going second street; meet same error. huh :puppy-dog:

no quest, no follower, not much item(only spear and knife), no special condition.... same error.

how can solve that?

if need savedata: here files(7z comp)
it's all clean.

@ RockingRocket,

There is nothing wrong with your save, as it works perfectly fine for me. So it has to a problem with your game. Probably something missing. I would suggest you try to reinstall everything and see if that helps.
If it doesn't you should tell us what version of the game you have, what OS you are using, install method etc.

Win 95

Well after 10 years in storage I stumbled on to my old High School laptop a Toshiba Satellite Pro 465CDX spec's

spec's
Windows 95c OSR 2.5
166Mhz Pentium w/MMX
160Mb ram
1Mb Direct Draw compatible Video card
32Gig hard drive (late upgrade not long before it's retirement)
10X cd-rom
DirectX 8.0a (last out for win95)

And it still had Fallout 2 installed so I started playing it again while at work (a call center with long stretches of downtime) the turn based game play works well for me there...
Now I would like to get the Restoration Project installed but ran in to a hitch the installer demands DX9c witch I can not install on this old girl. All I really want is all the cut/added content because in truth playing on "real hardware" there is little need for the graphics overhauls other them making it run a 800x600 (already tried the High Resolution Patch Ver 2.0c and it works well).
I have the disc so making a clean max install will not be a problem but I could use some help with a manual install

some extra info
Yes I'm playing it on the old laptop because my good one is having issues and my netbook's screen to too small it bothers me...

And I have tried running Win 98se on this laptop, While it meets the system requirements it just does not play nice with it...

@LucianDragos
Wow, Win95. I only tried installing RP on 98se in VM...
You might want to try installing FO2+RP on your newer netbook then copy the whole folder to the old laptop. As long as you don't use any DX9 related functions in sfall or hi-res patch, the game should work fine. But I can't guarantee the performance though.

sir Darek; thanks mention.

yeah i think too about SAVEDATA.
-and, i'll try reinstall and check again soon.

win7 64bit sp1, steam version, and only added RP(full install by preset option).
so, FO2 is 1.02.28 / RP is 2.2-pb1 / SFALL is 2.20a(last letter not sure. can't reading.) / F2_res is 4.0.2(not sure. in changelog)

sad feeling. :|

uninstall and reinstall and testing; original FO2(download from steam) is correctly work. no crashing in new reno.
unfortunately, same situation after RP installed.

any solution?
(some patch req before RP or need none-steam version gamefiles or...)

So I know that Steam verifies its game files. This will probably pose a problem when installing mods. I'd suggest turning that off for F2.

So do a fresh install of it, turn off the verify stuff, install a fresh copy of the RP and then copy over your save game.

@LucianDragos
Ah, I tried to support all versions of Windows with the RP but directx requirements must have slipped my mind. I'd suggest to go the route the NovaRain suggested. And performance shouldn't be too bad. The game was designed for Win 95/98 and the RP pushes the bounds only a bit more.

I think I'll tweak the installer (yeah that's right I care about supporting old systems) to ignore the directx 9 check when Win 95 is the OS being used. The version of sfall for Win 9x is extremely old anyway, so it's not like features would be broken without the latest directx.

@NovaRain
Did installing under Win 98 work for you? No issues with the installer?

@killap
After digging out my old memo, I remember I was testing RP 1.2 at the time. Sorry for the misleading info. :oops:

Do you still have access to a Win 98 machine? Would be interesting to know how the latest installer handles it.

Unfortunately I don't have any testing environment now. My old Win98 machine got fried about two years ago. After that I only tested in Win98/Win2k VM on my working PC a few times (and mostly focus on Win2k), but all data was lost with a HDD crash last year. D:

Asking just for curiosity as I have Win 8 on my new notebook; is RP could be played without any problem ? Thanks.

wha...?! steam automatically integrity check?
use steam only download program, not run on steam(FO2 run itself .exe). dayum... :x

very thanks ur mention sir killap.
i'll try reinstall on turnoff steam opt.

There's always the manual install option, no?
But I seem to remember sfall started demanding dx9 at some point.
Not sure it will even start without it, though it may only be if you use any of the graphics options.

So maybe hold off with changing anything until someone with a last century pc has tested it.

Only the 4.0.2 hi-res patch requires d3dx9_31.dll.
I tried to remove all DX9 DLLs (d3dx9_**.dll) from system folders. The game still works as long as I disable the hi-res patch and don't use any DX9 graphics function in sfall. But I'm not sure if the maps will work properly without hi-res patch.

Did you removed the dx9 files in the fallout folder as well?
I assume you did but just asking to be sure. :)
Then again, maybe they don't matter anymore if the whole thing gets disabled when you remove files from the system folder.
Anyway, I think only the EPA maps will have issues without the hi-res patch. They won't be scrolling properly and you can't leave the place unless you come there with the car.

Yes, I always remove the dx9 dlls in FO2 folder after installing RP, since they are redundant for my system.
I remember Pixote said something about the issues in EPA ground map. Maybe he's working on some fixes.

Hmm, perhaps I'll set it up where if someone has Win 95 then it will install hi-res 3.0.x instead. Extra work, but gotta support everyone. 8-) Of course I won't be able to test it but hopefully someone here can.

Sadly not. He tried and the end result was either leave it be or remake the entire map. We chose the former. But yes, that's the only map that should have issues when not using the high-res patch, even if you choose 640x480.

Well I tired to copy over the folder but I just get and error on startup

"wmAreaInit::Error loading Cities!"

I looked over the ini's and as far as I could see there are no Dx9 options used... Though I don't think this error is caused be that but I could be wrong

@LucianDragos
I guess the system of your netbook is XP or above, so the included sfall won't work in Win9x. You have to use win9x version of sfall & an edited exe.

EDIT: OK, here's the extracted/untouched files from the installer for win9x version: http://www.mediafire.com/?3zxoj5vmjo61msj
You might need to tweak some options in ddraw.ini though.
