Fallout 2 Restoration Project Gameplay Thread

So far as I know, there are three bags in RP 1.2. One in the hubologist storage place, a backpack (basically a bag) in the basement of the abbey, and the original one from modoc.

How many ways are there to find EPA? In RP 1.2 I've found it through letting Myron join me and then threatening him that I'll throw him out (and then I really threw him out ;)); I've heard about a random encounter that tells you where the EPA is, but could you simply stumble upon it on the map or find it otherwise?

I believe there are only two ways:
1. Get Myron to tell you.
2. Get the random encounter with the traveler and there's a chance that she'll give it to you.

Yep. The random encounter is a woman who looks like Miria, and she holds a knife.

Just wander around New Reno and you'll eventually meet her.

Where is the metal i need to jam that rusty fan in EPA underground level?

I have tried crowbar, but no dice. I have searched everyplace, so unless it's in one of the locked lockers, I just can't find it.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, as I'm not sure if this is a RP thing, an Unofficial patch thing, or just my memory conking out on me.

I'm in Gecko, trying to complete the quest to optimize the power plant. I talked to Gordon before talking to The Brain, but what I need is the holodisk that I need to run through the Vault computer to optimize the power plant. In the original game, Festus gives this disk to me, but now he doesn't. No option in his dialogue tree results in him giving me the disk. Once I've repaired the reactor, Festus just gives a float text and becomes useless. I've tried talking to McClure before and after talking to Festus/fixing the power plant, but with no change.

How exactly is this quest supposed to be completed again?

Regarding EPA:

[spoiler:a5374da99e]

Finding that metal pole was *brutal*. Really hard to see that thing lying amongst all that rubble. And when using the metal pole on the two fans downstairs except for the middle, the fans disappear, and the pole breaks with no entrance to show for.[/spoiler:a5374da99e]

Unkillable Cat:

I've just started playing RP 2.0.2d today. In my game I used my 99 speech to convince Festus to do his job. Then he talked about wanting to optimise the reactor, and gave me a holodisk. Reloading from a save before that happened, and installing the part myself using the robot, he again talked about the job being not done yet, and wanting me to go to the vault central computer, etc. and gave me a disk. Now the bubbles over his head are all saying things such as 'plenty of time to chat after we optimize the reactor' and similar. So I think you have a bug.

How is battle chem use supposed to work??

What I would like is if my NPCs used super stimpaks when needed. But if you set them to use stimpacks only, then its only the simple ones they use. If instead you set them up as 'any chem, some of the time' they gobble down fruits, beers, nuka-colas etc for no particular good reason, before a fight, when they aren't even injured.

Surely this isn't what the designers intended?

Car issue -- not enough encounters

I got my car in the Den, drove to New Reno to get it stolen and upgraded, and then to NCR to get Claudia. Now I am getting hardly any encounters at all. It's not that I am zipping around the map too quickly, the speed seems comparable to what I had before I installed RP 2.0.2d , it's just that I never seem to run into anything interesting, either of the 'would you like to encounter' sort or the you just encounter them sort.

I once passed all of my drug stash over to Sulik, and unfortunately left the ‘take any drug any time’ setting turned on. That guy went wild with the jet, mentats, etc, and before too long, he must have been addicted, because at the start of any conflict he would collapse on the ground and lay there motionless for the entire battle. See boys and girls – drugs are bad… :naughty:

lac: Thanks for the help, but I found a solution by first talking to The Brain before talking to Gordon of Gecko, and then talking to The Brain again after having fixed the reactor. That "opened up" Festus to give me the reactor optimization holodisk. I also was completing the Vault village quest at the same time, which may or may not be a factor.

And I had 101% Speech skill when trying to talk to Festus earlier, with no result.

omg.. this is so easy to solve.. dont give your npc simple stimpaks.. give them super stimpaks ONLY.. u can keep them alive.. with 5-6 super stimpak in their inventory.. keep all your nuka+fruit for myron to make supers for you.. only use simple stimpak on your own...

yeah, me2 more boring with a fast car..... but i think you can manually change the world encounters rate from no 66 to a higher no.. i tried 88 which is better but not cooler...

joochian: I have loaded up Sulik with no regular stimpaks, only super stimpaks, and he still isn't using them though I have him set to ''stimpak when hurt alot" and "stimpak when hurt a bit". I have to set him to "any chem some of the time" before he will use them. And the reason that he had all those fruits and nuka colas to wastefully guzzle, was that I was using him to carry them so that there would be plenty for Myron to do when we got around to recruiting him. I didn't expect him to consume the whole lot the next time he saw a scorpion, but he did. This is a difference between RP and the Gog.com FO2 I was playing last week (where fruits and nuka colas were not treated as chems). Is this the way things are supposed to work, or do I have a bug?

I would still like an option 'use superstimpacks when hurt a bit' and 'hurt a lot' for the combat control.

I would like to change my encounter rate.

I think I do this by editing ddraw.ini to have the following lines

WorldMapEncounterFix=1
WorldMapEncounterRate=*some large number*

since my problem is not enough encounters.

Is this correct, and all I have to do?

Also, I don't want to do this if in some way this compromises my usefulness as a producer of savefiles with RP bugs in them. It doesn't seem to be the sort of thing that would have such an effect, but before I do this, I wanted to ask killap and the other RP authors if they are fine with this.

Thanks,
Grävling

lac: As far as the Super Stimpaks are concerned, they are considered chems because they have a drawback, like the other drugs.

But then again, so do the Healing Powders, but I haven't checked to see if they're treated like Stimpaks or chems.

I understand the rationale for saying that Super Stimpaks are a chem, my complaint is that from a usability point of view, it would be nice to be able to set your characters up so that they only use stims and super stims. And also to be able to say how badly hurt you want your npcs to be before they start using stims and super stims, same as you can specify how hurt they should be before running away.
