If this is you answering my query about the oil rig, can you help me and zlykiss and tell us what to do there? The "barracks" area to the right leads to a door which I can't open and the elevator takes me to a vertibird landing area where I can't do anything.
There's a stair near the elevator can take you down to the detention level. You need to look more carefully.

My god that's hilarious, I've been stuck there a week since I couldn't spot the stairs

Been having fun with another playthrough so no biggie but yeah, the placement of the stairs and the elevator both half obstructed by the wall and the steel railing making it harder to accidentally place the cursor over the stairs isn't optimal. Either the elevator should go to all three levels or the stairs should be stacked ontop of eachother like in New Reno or the Abbey. The stairs are easily missed when it's easy to step on the elevator just trying to move the PC into the room.

About the lightning problem, have you gotten the quest to fix it first? Do you have any junk with you?

Forcefield...
[spoiler:0a4b95f0e9]Use repair on the computer close by or blow up the forcefield with some dynamite.[/spoiler:0a4b95f0e9]
Hologram...
[spoiler:0a4b95f0e9]You need science 100% and you need to talk to the holo to know what to do. Since it's a speech check (as in the science check is through dialogue) NPCs will not help you here[/spoiler:0a4b95f0e9]

Thanks a lot for the answer, and yes I do have junk with me ( learned that from a walkthrough to an earlier version of the EPA ) and I did get the quest ( though it isn't from some doctor character as in earlier versions but from the female hologram ).

I will try out what you wrote in the spoilers just need to improve my science a bit first.

Stuck at the EPA

Hi guys
I'm having some problems with the EPA area, mainly i can't leave the main entrance area and go back to the wasteland.
when i check the map i can see there's an exit grid to the south but the camera doesnt let me scroll down to see it, and on certain places in this area it kind of locks in place and moving it around becomes very much like going through an invisible maze.
I've tried to change to resolutions higher than 640*480 but the camera still stops at the same location.
Any help would be greatly appreciated seeing as i'm pretty much stuck in the game

Did you install the resolution patch manually? The problem you are describing sounds like the result of incorrect map edge blockers being used. This happens if you are not running the resolution patch at all or you installed a version different than the one that comes with the RP.

yes actually, i installed the resolution patch 1.6 after the restoration mod.
am i forever stuck in the EPA now or is there some way to fix my screwup?

1.6? Isn't it up to 2.3? Anyway, you shouldn't install anything else after you install the RP. The resolution patch already comes with the RP.

The easiest thing to do is to reinstall the RP. Just make a backup of your save games and then reinstall the RP. The correct resolution files should be copied over and when you load your save game you should be able to move around again.

Killap I wonder can you think about changing the damage stats of the phaser? I know it has been damaged and so but the solar scotcher, alien blaster and pulse pistol are way better then phaser.

I'm sure that someone has already asked this, but where is the computer which is wiping the holograms' memories (in the EPA)? I found a terminal which says that the mainframe is broken, but the mainframe I found doesn't do anything. Do I need to use the junk on it? I also found a computer elsewhere which says something like "what are you looking for?" when I try to repair it. Sorry for the certainly obvious question.

SPOILERS
The room of the right contains right computer. You will get massage that "you fell strong magnetic field in the room". You must find the right computer there. Run the diagnostics on it and you will get the massage that due damage in the system the battery coils are overused and are cosing magnetic field which can interfere with other machines. Use repair(you don't need anything) on it then.

If you cannot feel anything repair firstly Director of science hologram and he will tell you about the magnetic field.

I've noticed several people have posted here seeking advice for how to progress through the EPA.

I'm curious, how many of you were able to able to "complete" the EPA without any outside assistance (including the outdated walk-through)?

If no one was able to play through it without coming here to ask for help or looking at guides, then we may have to reevaluate the EPA's playability.

EDIT: I'm asking this only in regards to the 2.X version of the EPA.

I have a feeling people are stuck getting into the EPA because they are trying to do what they did before 2.x. Getting stuck inside the EPA is a whole different story. Personally, I don't think entering the EPA is that difficult. It requires exploring the map, but that is something every player should do. Heck, I even added float text (kinda an immersion breaker, but still something the player might say aloud) to the key areas. And it's not like you have to hit the exact pixel to get this floating text. Still, I'm open to suggestions.

For the first playthrough of RP 2.x EPA, I only got stuck at the utility level a bit, because I missed the floating text for the middle fan (my character only said it once and I didn't notice it at that time). But once get inside the EPA, I don't have any problem about those holograms or the cryotanks.

What lead you to progress through the area? Trial and error? Read scenery descriptions?

This is an RPG, if people can't test their surroundings and persevere, then they are probably playing the wrong game. Is there anyone willing to write a walk-through for the latest edition of the RP, that way people can just send the link to those individuals that need help.

Please don't make the game more accessible, keep making it better instead! If people can't figure it out, that's their problem... you're not trying to sell the game, rather polishing it!

You mean the fan/vent in the utility level or the rest of EPA? For the fan in the utility level, I read its description (by randomly clicking/viewing scenery stuff) and made some trial and error. I don't know why the first try I take is to use the drill on it though...

The rest of EPA are more straightforward IMO, if players read the dialog and check the surrounding scenery descriptions.

BTW killap, how's the debugging going?
