Fallout 3 Trailer

Oblivion isn't just all about Bloom lol. Fucking noob effect. Hate it. Really. But there is much more than this, which will become old school in the next months. But to be honest : even Crysis wouldn't look that much impressive if it hadn't Bloom. It's cheap, but it works.

What, an opposition old-shiny one vs new-realistic?

wtf?

Is that directed to me?

Because in that case, yeah...
Half Life 2 looks better than Oblivion, no matter how advanced the Oblivion engine is.
Doesn't mean much when you have an advanced engine if you are not able to use its potential, does it?

Hey, I'd really like to see how advanced this engine really is... so far I've only seen words... words glorifying it for what seems to me to be, well, nothing.
And this trailer for Fallout 3, which does show some potential.

All that is gold does not glitter
Not all those who doubt are lost
That which is stong does not wither
Deep memories not erased by the frost

From the ashes a fire shall be woken
From the shadows a light shall spring
Renewed shall be legacy that was broken
Fallout again shall be king

I hear no major flaming in the NMA forums... that can only mean the highest possible praise to bethesda....

Well in the end it's just sausage whoever has the most bugs to develope the newest pixar engine for a FPS. All I just wanted to say is that the probabilities Bethesdas engine is going to be 3rd person scrollable are very high, at least in my eyes. Sure there are lot of things in computer graphics and their engine i do not know, but at this point I'm quite sure.

It looks Steampunk to me, or maybe a grenade launcher of some sort.

Hmm, steam powered power armour?

Not the armor. The gun.

Over all I like the armor. It has a "lived in" look that wasn't present in F1, F2 or FT.

Waiting another 1.5 years is going to suck though.

Average quality I´d say. Which is a bit weak considering the countdown and all that hype.

Regarding the PA I immediately thought what requiem said:

The power armour looks wrong. No matter if it's an earlier model, patched and repaired with whatever scrap iron they could find, a compromise to allow for clipping etc or basically a cock up of the art dept, it just looks wrong. The pauldrons are very medieval, even down to the little rosettes other the hinges.

While it´s admittedly not nearly as dumb as FO:T´s PA, it looks like a somewhat out of place mixture between 16th century tournament armor and some crude WWI tank thingy. Definitely not 50s.

Apart from that there was enough stuff done right to keep up the hope.

Bethesda folks, if you´re reading this: If it´s First Person I´m not gonna buy it. Just so you know.

Damn. I came so close to buying one of those hula dancers at an antique shop a couple of weeks back. Damn!

I liked it. The soldier doesn't look quite right, but its nice to hear Ron Pearlman. The look was right. But if you guys are right and that a BOS logo, than how did the BOS get to the East Coast?

(please don't say it was one of those blimps that didn't crash in Tactics!)

Hm perhaps it was one of the Zeppelins from Tactic,or the BoS left their Vaults to conquer the east O.o

To be serious i got not the slightest clue what the BoS could do at the east coast.

Ah wait, you will play someone who was sent to the east coast to find a uhm...thingie..for the BoS.

One thing I'm surprised no one has mentioned (or forgive me if this has already been remarked upon, as 13 pages is a lot to dig through):

The gunshots.

Starting around :56 you can hear them. They are especially audible around 1:10-1:17. I probably wouldn't have caught them without my headphones on.

Vertibirds they got after FO2? And if it's the Eastern Brotherhood from FOT, they went from Illinois to Colorado during the game itself, so they could also easily go to DC.

+ music
+ the beginning

- vault boy on a poster in the bus : i never ever saw vault boy appearing anywhere in the surroundings in Fo1 and 2 and i think it just doesn't fit into there
- the power armour doesnt look good.., looks likey they want to make the brooderhood of steel cliché-evil
-"war never changes", it was just out of context in that clip imho

DarkLegacy:
...It doesn't even really look like a gun, I don't even know what the hell it is. ...

Maybe this prop in this teaser was based on the outline of the weapon in the pic below.

A copy of a copy, and no ""new"" secrets about Beth's FO3 revealed.
Calculated emissions.
Syncing the world to the Zenimax marching beat, the Bethesda interpretation of a classic entertainment experience.
Grooming the full spectrum demographic to love their 'aged-NOT' mythos.

////////////////////////////////////

Teaser

Well done establishing shot in the teaser.
Unique time line starts in the faded glow of vacuum tubes.
FO images.
FO urban desolation chic'.
The Washington Monument as a hint on location.

Pow-wah Arm-ah Mahn standing to off center as camera pulls back and stops.

Dramatic brass for you romantic Wagnerians, may be his signature tune.
Or, a sonic theme that flares, and blares, and stops the nostalgic Ink Spots cold.
A slap of dynamic tension to get your attention.

Over all washout of color,
white robs the eye's pallet,
spectrum becomes warm and cool shadings,
then greys, the grey on grey on grey,
Pow-wah Arm-ah Mahn's basic camo blends the nex gen necessary white highlights,
the promise of doom and bloom.

I agree with those that see the 'painter's style', the concept artist's color scheme and black white lines mirrored in the tease.
Perhaps an indication of the discipline of the team work when Beth chooses a theme.

If the Beth leads say ""I want to hear more cow bell"", lo-, there be ""more cow bell""!
If ""more sand in the desert"", then lo-. ""more sand in the desert""!

Now only if the essence were the mere arithmatic progression of line item features,
like the 'cow bells' and the 'sand', and not under the shadowing vectors of a pan dimensional fate.
The challenge of exploiting a game franchise IP, greater then the sum of it's -- line items -- the Happy Accident of the FO's.

Or a copy of a copy, and no ""new"" secrets ...

used, dusty, rigged, sure... no problem. but these forms just don't add up for me. the form of the pauldron, the mask, the bumpy chestplate.

My thoughts are the same.
Nothing wrong with the custom weap. though.
Did like the ruins and "product placement". Most atmosphere/style concerns should be laid to rest (leaving us with considerable gameplay concerns).

So you didn't see him, for example, on the TV in the first Fallout intro?

I think them being the good guys would be more cliche. I hope they make the Brotherhood (if they're in the game) fascist assholes. Absolutely power corrupts absolutely. I had a problem with all their noble goody-goody stuff in previous games. Face it: if they had that kind of power and technology (as opposed to everybody else), it would only be a matter of time before they were forcibly imposing their own vision of a brave new world on the rest of irradiated America. Sure, their cause might start out as noble and benevolent, but how long might that last?

Kukident said:

Why? There are plenty of gunshots to be heard, for sure.

It's been done in FO:T.

It sucked.

The BOS, for the fucking n-th time, is an isolationist group, and seeks as little contact with the outside world as possible.

The teaser did me justice. I'm still sceptical but from the teaser, they appear to be going in the right direction where setting is concerned.

The "Enlist today" poster made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And HOLY BEJEBUS IT'S RON PERLMAN!
