Fallout 4 announced with official trailer

Have you seen the last Terminator 5 trailer yet?
Omg, you were right. I hope my favourite game franchise AND my favourite movie franchise are not going to be butchered in the same year.

Doubtful, people prefer to more gradually destroy things than dropping it like one bomb on you. The idea is that only when you have come to accept the loss of one thing that they get at you again, it is much more fun to kick someone when he is about to climb up again then when he is already down.

On the gfx side I was expecting a bit more, doesn't look bad but got the same problems with stiff animations and missing shadows.
But if the gameplay is nice I won't complain, modders will take care of that.

I really hope Obsidian will take a chance at another addon.

It's a shame that Bethesda is taking back the reins of the franchise, after the breath of fresh air that was Fallout: New Vegas and especially Old World Blues

Dude OWB was almost the same as fallout 3 and you liked fallout 3

Either way i dont care who puts his dick in the credits as long as the engine is solid i will play it

But modifiable.

Me personally though I really don't care too much about this one. Will I play it? Sure. Am I going to enjoy it? Eh probably get bored in a few hours like any other Bethesda game. I'm really hoping to not find cringe worthy quests this time. That is my only hope. The Super Human Gambit and the thing with the vampires and the nuka cola one were too hard to stomach.

It's Gamebryo, not solid at all.

Not Gamebryo.
You sure? It seems pretty Gamebryo, what with the missing shadows and stiff animations and such.

The sad thing always was that modders can't fix the important stuff.

Like the story. Or the quests. Or writting. Or RPG elements.

I've seen the tries in Skyrim. And while it was really incredible what some individuals achieved it still feels like modds and it was always what I would describe as nice try. It can spice up the gameplay no doubts, but well, I really don't think that modders should be there to "fix" something. Particularly things like the Skyrim civil war mod ... I remember how someone compared it with fixing a broken bottle. You might glue all the pieces together, and it looks like a bottle, but it will still leak and never be like before. And 99,99% of the mods will be pink powerarmors and new weapons/stuff/models.

Duh, I cant stand to read any more of this bullshit: seriously NMA, you've gotten overrun by trolls and kids in the meantime i wasnt looking, and nothing CHANGED THAT.

I'm not here to argue, i'm not here to listen, i'm only here to tell you twerps how a player who bought and played Fallout 1 (and before that, uh.. Bards Tale on C64? It's been such a long time.. i lost count) back in the days and by now knows his shit only by LOOKING AT IT, to confirm the following:

1. Crapthesda's DirectX abomination of the id Tech5 engine (which is, basically, Quake Arena engine with that megatexture thingy, which is basically, unmoddable. lol). All you morons saying it's Gamebyro should go back to bitch school because that's where you obviously came from

2. Shitty textures and shitty game (ok, that one you figured out for yourselves. duh)

3. Todd Asshat shat over Fallout lore all over again (he's an asshat, so that was to be expected)

4. Only registered again because all this retarded talk about "dogs" and "animations" and whatever shit anonys the crap out of me, who cares about that shit?? 12year olds

5. This game is only called "Fallout" by name, fallout has been dead ever since. Fallout NV was a nice shooter revisit of the good ol days, but thats it. Liked it somewhat.

6. Not a a) troll b) whatever your kiddy minds make you wanna believe, i'm old enough to be your dad (thank god i ain't. so much brain damage here).

7. You can ban or shittalk me now, i don't care. just wanted to get that out of my system. For anyone who sees the truth in this, you're one of the few who "get it". Congrats, now move on, there's little of value left

okay.

Have you seen the last Terminator 5 trailer yet? I am not sure if you should or should not see it. I gave up on humanity after it. Yes, it's that bad.
Is he *shudder* in it? Or is he too busy starring in Fallout 4 as Mecha Liberty Optimus Freedom Prime Barbara (I forget the name) again?

You know, when I watched this trailer, a part of me wasn't even really seeing Fallout 3. Something else, like it'd have similarities, but there's a touch of something different there. Odd.

I guess I'm expecting this to be the Bioshock Infinity of Fallout... though I guess 3 could be that to Fallout as well.

Infinity of modern Fallout, I guess?

Yeah, but I'm expecting this to be very different to 3, for some reason. Not saying it'll be good, and I'm absolutely positive it won't reflect classic Fallout beyond a few aesthetics, but I'm expecting there to be huge differences from 3.

Looks too good to be shitty Gamebryo. Hopefully it's either Creation Engine or something new.

Beth has bought ID tech a while back, but as far as I know ID tech 5 isn't suitable with open-world game needs. I don't know what game engine Skyrim used under the hood, but they used a lot of the same middleware that were used in FO3 with Gamebyro, overall the whole package was dubbed Creation Engine. I assume that FO4 will follow in line using further modified Creation engine, and which would be as modable as Fo3 and skyrim are. If you have different info/source please post it, otherwise keep your farts to yourself.

You see "barely any true rebuilding" because its convenient, the static universe is a common plot device. This is why we see very little actual technological and social changes in the fallout universe, because overall its about us exploring various issue in a specific and unique setting not how make a realistic sim of how environment react to radiation overtime ;)

Is it really that common? I can't think of any examples where the fictional world remains at the same level of technology regardless of passage of time aside from maybe old cartoons. And even if it were common, that doesn't make it a good or an effective plot device. Most people would argue the the opposite. And thats not true, we only saw no technological and social changes in Fallout 3, and hopefully Fallout 4 will be different in that aspect (in parts of the trailer it looks to be the case). Things need to change for new issues to be explored, or else you're just left with a stagnating setting and the same issues you had last time. I can't speak for anybody else, but I'm not asking it be realistic like having the exact half-life of plutonium, but at the very least it should make sense and the world should develop. The tagline isn't 'The plot, the plot never changes'.

I agree to an extent, the work is set on the west coast, and I am open to a more varied landscape (based on the trailer they seem to deliver some of that) However, keep in mind that if you stray to much from the formula you will loose what makes FO unique.. So again its not about realism but a balancing act.

I disagree. In order for a franchise to be unique, it is up to the writers to take a unique direction moving on and to expand upon the original game, rather than holding onto an aesthetic simply because that's recognisable. Fallout New Vegas was able to expand on the previous games, moving it further ahead, while also keeping the aesthetic. Sticking to a formula makes it the opposite of unique, because there's nothing different or special about it. I would have thought that's a given.
