Fallout 4 announced with official trailer

Well, if the official trailer was done in this manner there certainly would be less mouning here and it would appeal to F3 fans anyway (F3 teaser was also gloomy and slow with menacing music), so I can't see why they didn't make it like that.

Here is nice overview of the background details seen in the trailer:

BTW I think he is correct, the settlement we seen is located within the stadium in boston fenway park. (i.e. FO4 Megathon)

Bethesda makes RPGs for people that don't like RPGs in the first place. They are like the Mc Donalds of gaming.

I never get it whenever this is said, wouldn't Call of Duty be the McDonalds of gaming? While Bethesda's gaming aren't fantastic, CoD comes out once a year with little to no changes, much like how a McDonalds meal comes out every minute with little to no changes. That and CoD appeals to little kids much like McDonalds.

It's not so much about the number of games they relase but how it is meant to be consumed. Beth games are theme parks where you run around and whack-a-mole everything without the need to worry about anything. Particularly in F3. Kill Megaton, donate water/money, become the saint of the wasteland. And they make sure that you absolutely never ever can fail. No matter what you do. The important people can be only put to sleep for a couple of seconds anyway and it takes just a few days before the mind of town people is errased. That way they can make sure that a 6-8 year old toddler can finish the game.

Though, don't get me wrong. I like some Mc Donalds games. I mean hey, mindless fun is ... mindless fun. Nothing wrong with that. But Beth sells their game as Filet Mignon and people see F3 as "true" RPG when it is in my opinion just an FPS with leveling slapped on it.

*Edit the Taco Bell analogy is also pretty good.

Then.... Bethesda is the Taco Bell then, they pretend to be something exotic but they are a pale imitation of the real thing filtered through american Junk Food sensibilities.

Yeah that sounds more correct.

I haven't really followed the discussion here on anywhere else because I honestly feel pretty meh about it all. I somewhat enjoyed Fallout 3 as an exploration shooter but it has horrible writing and quest design and sub-par mechanics. I enjoyed Fallout NV a whole lot more and consider it the true Fallout sequel, although it suffered from a crappy engine. So, judging from Bethesda's previous entry and what a shitfest Skyrim turned out to be, I can't really say my hopes are high. That said, I will most likely give it a chance if not only to judge it by my own experience and crap on it legitimately.

As for the trailer, without reading any of the supposed leaks or any previous discussions, I have a hunch we'll play as an android and the turorial and character creation will take place pre-war. There's a "you're Special" book in the kids room in the beginning, and the pre-war footage seems to follow a young boy into the vault. It all is presented in a way to give a nod to how you started as a kid in Fallout 3. And since the trailer is supposed to be rendered in-game, I doubt all the assets for the pre-war footage would be there for the trailer only. That begs the question if we're an android from the very beginning, or if we're an android with the memories of a real person. And if we are indeed an android, we might have some more interesting perks, traits and other character upgrades available.

All-in-all, I'm most curious to see what Beth has learned from Obsidian. I would not be surprised if they're too stuck-up and prideful to not learn from their previous mistakes. I mean, NV was clearly not as successful as Fallout 3. Obviously Obsidian didn't know what they were doing.

Oh god, if in F3 there was a perk that makes the human player explode with a magical nuclear explosion, then what perks can we expect if the main character is an android?

oh shit! It's an Android version of Todd Howard as The Vault Dweller. with the memories of Todd Howard.
so yes the Android Shouts thing could actually be possible.

It would be kinda cool if they did something like the Blade Runner video game, where the game randomly decides in the beginning which characters are replicants and which are real humans.

/edit: Android shouts. Sure. BLEEP BLOOP BLEEEEEEEEEEP!

Would having an android as a main character undermine the whole "War Never Changes" business? I mean, Fallout was always about human nature, and how the very human player character interacts with the world. Playing an android would open up many different interesting questions, but it doesn't seem to fit with the whole premise of the Fallout-series, I think...

"We are overjoyed," said Howard. "Fallout is one of my favorite games, and we plan to develop a visually stunning and original game for Fallout 3 with all the hallmarks of a great RPG: player choice, engaging story, and non-linearity."

remember this? I remember all the lies

remember this ?

What, in your mind, are some of the things that differentiate the Fallout games (ignoring FO: Tactics and FO: Brotherhood of Steel, which didn't happen) from the Elder Scrolls series of RPGs?
Outside of the obvious flavor and setting, the number one thing is stronger characters. Fallout really set the standard for me on believable people, good dialogue, and character choice and consequence. With Elder Scrolls, we do aim for something enormous, and we simply can't focus on say - 20 to 40 really deep strong characters and just do them. With Oblivion, we're doing a much better job than we've done before, but the scale of game is so different that without sacrificing some of what makes The Elder Scrolls what it is, I don't think we'd be able to have the same level of characterization in NPCs Fallout did. So with Fallout 3, that's something we want to do well, a limited number of super-deep NPCs.

admitting they fail at rpg
Concerning Fallout 1 and Fallout 2, what marked the games as special for you? What were some of your favourite experiences in those games?
There are so many, most of them stem from the first game, because that's the one that obviously had the biggest impact. The ending always stuck with me. It took balls to end the game like that.
"claims to love and play fallout games" BUT DOES NOT COME UP ONE CHARACTER OR QUEST. MOST ANYONE PLAYED AND LIKED FALLOUT RIGHT AWAYS SAYS "I LOVE ....CHAR OR QUEST.

If we are comparing Bethsoft games to American Fast food chains, hmm how about Sonics which while is a mediocre burger joint but has pretty good shakes and drink options. Kind of like how some of the visuals in thier games are nice, the substance is lacking in quest design and character development. Granted that is my opinion of Sonics but I feel the anaology is apt. With regards to Taco bell it is not Mexican in the slightest it was always TexMex to me which itself is a hybrid. The use of sour cream is key, to the TexMex label in my mind. Plus when most people think of "Mexican cuisine" they are only talking about Sonoran (sp?) cuisine. Mexico has an extremely varied and regional place, Oaxacan cuisine has a much ingredient list and flavor profile. Sorry Culinary school/ restaurant knowledge dripping out of my eyes over here.

Is it true that Emil is lead designer?

I guess this is good now. So he will focus more on gameplay and stuff rather than story. He did story in FO3 and it sucked.
