Fallout 4 gameplay videos leaked, Bethesda starts taking them down

I know, but I was overly exposed to High Fantasy through my formative years, and instead of becoming enamoured with it like most I actually grew tired of it.

The same can be said about me with Zombies. I can go two decades without seeing another zombie game or movie. Its been done to death.

Reminds me of the elves in Game of Thrones - I mean, Children of the Forest
They're small, ancient, "the first", magical, and dance around the woods like fairy elves, but as ol Martin said - elves are done to death!
So elves - they clearly are not! :'D

Yeah that's the problem, they try to pretend their making something new... when they're not. But the worst part is people believe that crap.

In Dorohedoro magic users are people blessed with tumors on their brains by All Powerfull beings that enables them to crate a magic subtance that looks like smoke out of their bodies to do a very Specific type of magic that is unique to every magic user.
These beings are not gods, or angels, they are literally demons, like they are demons, and the story doesn't try to portray this as a dark reveal, on the contrary all Magic users are awareof this and are all basically satanists, who make blood offers of chikens to altars every morning like if it was their morning prayer before going about their lives in a wroking society, some even see becoming a bizarre creature of the underworld as the highest condecoration a magic user can achieve.

The series is an action comedy with horror elements.
This is why I tend to prefer Urban Fantasy over High Fantasy.

Nice, a bit too weird for my tastes.

Bran = Frodo
North of the wall = Mordor :V

I'm not against that, to be honest. Over thousands of years, and countless stories and tales, everything will be a re-telling of something else, so, it's kind of a given. Game of Thrones is a very good story, the wrapping is good, the details are good. One should just be more aware, in general, none of it is as original as many people think.
Dragons arent... :D
And that's - like I said - part of the charm, we know these tropes - we just want to see them well executed!

It's not a case of being unique, it's more about if you can hide that or trick the audience in it being unique or just execute it well. Bethesda does it bad either way.

Obviously, that is the feat they fail to perform! :D

And, I suspect this happens a lot - when non-creative, non-inventive people are let in on the process, like those old farts with their graph-sheets "this sells better, increase that with 60%"

It reminds me also of a little anecdote, my brother used to make beats for a band he had back in his wild youth, and - he is creative, so... he would make a beat, and then he would add a funky little sound, a little "teaser", a little effect if you will, that was rare and far between, but sounded really groovy - something you'll sit and wait for.
His less creative friends heard the sound - and immediately exclaimed "omg that was awesome! dude! put that sound on repeat!!!" <---totally missed the point!
And I think similar attitudes often take over in the entertainment industry

Agreed, while it's not exactly like that they overdid everything.

The world of Dorohedoro has ruls and they follow them. Is just that part of the rules is that Demons exist. Most of the conflict is actually borne out of the people that can't use the Magic Smoke having to live on ghettos where the Magic Users dump the waste their constant use of magic produces or to serve as guinea pigs for the less scrupulous one. Hell the story starts right after a rather instense civil world within the Magic users world that ended with a certain character becoming the political leader of the magic user world through his mafia like influence with the big Demon in charge and good will generated from him huntind down a rather dangerous group of cultists.

Now that is interesting, even as the world so far seems limited and vague. Anything else, frankly I'm hooked to hear more.

If I go anywhere beyond vague descriptions I would be spoiling a shit load of things.

Just the initial premise, the protagonist is a dude called Kaiman, he has an alligator head, can't remember why he has it, he is sure it was some Magic User fucking with him because he also has a human head inside his mouth. It starts out with him looking for whoever cursed him to begin with, but it gets progressively crazier as more things are revealed and explored.

Pen and paper or video game?

But anyway, if we're going to reccommend stuff I really reccommend Pandemic. Clunky combat but really tough game mechanics and riveting story. It's set in a Russian village contaminated with a strange plague, you being a healer, either a sophisticated docter, ritualistic shaman and saint/devil each with a different story. Good stuff.
