Fallout 4 intro:

Game Companies. Game Companies never changes.

The Interplays waged war to gather slaves and wealth. Herve built an empire from his lust for gold and territory. Fargo shaped a battered Interplay into an economic superpower.

But Game Companies never changes.

In the 21st century, console war was still waged over the resources that could be acquired. Only this time, the spoils of war were also its weapons: Fanboys and Trolls. For these resources, EA would invade Westwood, the Bethesda would annex IDSoftware, and the Interplay would dissolve into quarreling, bickering nation-states, bent on controlling the last remaining resources on the net.

In 2007, the storm of world war had come again. In two brief hours, most of the game was reduced to cinders. And from the ashes of open-world/first-person devastation, a new game would struggle to arise.

Life in the Forum is about to change.

Rest in peace Ron, you will be dearly missed *salutes*

Wow I remember just two days ago I was called "biased" for being upset that Ron was not narrating, oh how the times change.

No Ron Perlman means the end of Fallout as we know it. That intro was nice and all, but fuck that garbage.

No idea why they needed to replace Ron Perlman in the intro with the voice of the male character. Specially when you can play as the Female one and feel no connection to the intro, which is what I think they were trying to do, connecting the player character to the intro.

So wait, do you mean to tell me that no matter what the male VO is the narrator..

The information relayed is also pretty vague and generic. Sounds like a summary you get out of a Wiki. They could've actually put something about Pre War Boston that would hint at developments later in the game.... maybe set it after you get inside the Vault so that the character you are playing is actually narrating it? Maybe set if after the dude kidnaps your kid? It looks nice and all with the live action segments, but at the end it jsut kind of bleh as an intro, specially when compared to the ones from the originals and New Vegas.

Also no Ron, Sorry Brian Delaney, you are just not Ron Perlman.

Exactly. They ditched the big picture style of previous intros which highlighted the conditions of the world and left you free to imagine your own character, in favor of this hamfisted shoehorning of their player character and his thoughts and wants into the world of Fallout.

It just further highlights that they don't understand how to write an RPG where you can actually play more than the role they have decided for you.

All that talk about varied playstyles and roles and what they really meant was "play as this guy, and listen to his boring voiceover work: he's a badass and the most important person ever so you'll like being him instead of being you"

Maybe we can get a Ron Perlman mod, where someone with a voice like Ron can narrate it? - Of course I am not beeing serious, but com on, that would be awesome!

What the hell were they thinking? The live action could have been done right after the intro with Ron. Better yet they could have let Ron narrate that and him speak about the protagonist.

This is because this is Bethesda, Todd and Emil's Fallout. This is now their story, their vision not ours. They wanted to make a fan fiction about themselves in Fallout (I mean shit the default name for Generic Man is Howard and Emil did say he had the devs put his house in as an easter egg) while at the same time making money off it. Fallout is now the vehicle for two guys fan fiction and power fantasy. :twitch:

People might say "oh but the character is prewar! he wouldn't know about the post war world!"

THen I would ask, What is even the point of the fucking pre war shit? What is it bringing to the story exactly? Why couldn't it be done with a Regular Vault Dweller whose Vault is attacked? They have the same "sheltered from the psot war world" thing... Why was it even necessary to make him a pre war ex soldier?

It would seem to be tied to this whole "soldier misses his kid" shtick, another attempt at trying to make us care about their inane story and the kid we're forced to incorporate into the role of our characters.

The Intro is also basically stablishing that playing with anything other than the default appereance is just silly. Your "great great grandfather" is white, his wife is white, hell they even show a photo with the default appereance of your Wife (who is also forced into being called Nora btw).... This was just pretty dumb.

Lots of production value, tho. So it will probably get praised just for that and people will mistake that for being poignant or deep.
