Fallout 4 Launch Trailer

Witcher 3 had many details related to side quests or main quest that only way to see them was exploring the map or looking at your surroundings carefully.
If you told a certain witch character to go to the King with a deal, you would later saw her burning corpse on stick because that king was paranoid and afraid of sorceresses.

In Skellige, late wife of the deceased king tried to make a power play but failed miserably. You would hear her getting sentenced to death but not the location. But after the quest if you go to a certain ritualistic site on the other side of the island, you can find her chained to the rock and crows pecking her dead body.

There were no markers or npcs telling what happened/where these are located in details. You had to find them yourselves willingly or by chance

Ive yet to see this type of storytelling in Bethesda games. Only ones that I can recall is getting your statue built in Bruma, a tavern song or guards of the captured city changing in Skyrim and none in Fallout 3. So Im not really hopeful how in depth these types of things will be in F4.

The ghouls in Tenpenny Tower probably fit that.

FO4 reviews just in:

- as a "Skyrim with guns" game 10/10
- as a hiking simulator and "playing with enemy corpses and positioning them in suggestive ways" game: 10/10
- as a modder's playground and Barbie game: 8/10
- as a first/third person shooter: 5/10
- as a role-playing game: 3/10
- as a Fallout game: "no, please, no, don't touch me there!"

As for Toddy, my growing suspicion that he is some sort of social experiment designed to show how the majority of game 'journalists' are either frauds, bought or fanboys, is more or less proven to 100% at this point.

Penis

Okay no, there is a psychic woman in the game who insists that your fate is connected to the commonwealth and Preston Gravy makes you the leader of the Minutement despite barely knowing you because he "feels" that you will be a great leader that uniite everyone.... despite, again, not knowing anything about you. That's the level of forced and power fantasy the leaks have shown.

And people will drum it up as great writing. Shit like this is why I'm slowly starting to lose interest in gaming.

As a stand alone game I would give it a 7 from what we have seen. As a Fallout game I would give it a 4 on account of the Leveling system, dialogue dumbing down alone, because the quality of the writting (despite me not being too hopeful about it) isstill up in the air.
What is your issue with the leveling system? BTW I'm okay with skills being added in the perk tree, cause the 1-100 didn't work as well as it could have.
The fact that it just doesn't work.
It actually gives the player much less flexibility and build options. Most of the perks aren't even interesting, some of them are just gates for things that where normally part of the natural level prgoression.
Skills have been folded into Perks, and by doingso not only did they completely made the level to level experience less rewarding but they also turned perks into a routine of Percenage increases. With them even locking content that was generally available activities in the previous games, like Crafting. Skills in the previous games would give you inmediate results to the basic abilities your character had with Perks serving as special rewards what would give you unique effects. Lots of perks even had cross over requirements so you were encouraged to mix skills and not just put all points on a single one, SPECIAL stats also played a very important role in that they were very hard to permanently increase and they also served as gates to MULTIPLE perks at their highest levels, but having a low stat was also a risk as they directly influenced things like Skill points received per level up, the accuracy of your weapons, the chances of finding good items (or in the originals, positive random encounters) so there was also a level of risk reward involved.

New System tho? It rewards you for having low stats because all the SPECIAL stats do is generic and simplistic combat bonuses. With charisma dominating all dialogue options. The lack of a level cap and the fact that you can increase your special stats every level means that you are also not really being rewarded for putting more points on a SPECIAL while at the same time you barely have to worry about any risks because the effects of the SPECIAL stats are negligible.

You get ONE perk, for every level of the SPECIAL stat, with many of those perks being either Worthless or redundant with one another. For example Night Person is the Perception 6 perk, gives you a +2 temporary boost to Int and Pe during the night, because it is a temporary boost it means that it isn't taken into account when leveling up, and if you want to get the perks on the higher levels of the same Stat you are basically better off not wasting your point into it, because again, Pure SPECIAL buffs have no real effect, they no longer have any Skills to give little pushes to.

Are you going to sacrifice the bottom row of Inteligence perks just to get a passive boost during the nights? makes no sense, the perk became completely worthless by the very system it is in and there is no alternative to it, so you either pick 5 PE or 7 because 6 is worthless.. The first rank of the Endurance 10 perk gives you a +2 to endurance during the day.... but you have to be maxed out in endurance to get it, and if you are interested in Strenght boosts you might as well just level up your strenght with the Level zero perk as itwill also give you access to the Perks of those 2 levels....

There is a luck perk that is jsut a random chance to get triple XP, and you have a better chance at it with low intelligence... Low intellgence decreases the EXP you gain, it also doesn't give you any other perks, which is the reason why you even level up at all. So you get triple the amount of the reduced amount of Exp you are getting instead of the full benefits of putting points into Int.... you get the most worthless perk of them all with 1 in INT, VANS, which doesn't even have a second rank. So Another Useless perk on both sides.

It's just a mess.

This has also made Chems very much worthless too, with Mentats becoming a straight up minor EXP boost and nothing else.

The only SPECIAL boost that is worth a dam is Charisma and Strenght.

And that's just the tip of the problem.

They are really drumming up this whole Jesus archetype this time around. I am really getting sick of it. :whatever: Never in the original Fallouts and New Vegas were you treated as Jesus. You were a agent if change. Seriously this is fucking dumb!

Well to be fair, in New Vegas you play a guy who comes back from his grave and screws up a Caesar's plans for a desert region.

To be the Devil's Advocate for the moment, I'd like to point out that the Fallout 1 and 2 both played on the "chosen one" type shit, and even some idiotic mysticism (seriously, fuck Arroyo). Then again, Bethesda is more guilty in this regard, it's like they don't know anything but that. Quite sad, really.

In New Vegas you were never treated as a messiah or Jesus character but as an agent of change. The vying factions "ace in the hole". You were just some wastelander who was just doing their job and got unlucky. In Fallout 4 after 200 years of cryo sleep your character awakens and walks into a world full of chaos and disorder. A world that hasn't, after 200 years, recovered. Only with their coming does the wasteland begin to recover and peace and order become restored and holy fuck has this been done to death!

You also were just the chosen one of your small village in 2, not the dragonborn of legend or some such shit. Some dialogue options even made fun of the concept by having you ramble on like an idiot about your chosen oneness and your village while the other person got exasperated with you.
