Fallout 1 mod Fallout Fixt - next release will be some time in Jan 2020

I have had some generous fans of my mod bring up donations to show their appreciation for the time put into the Fallout Fixt project. I don't request donations but I won't refuse them either. :notworthy:

I never outright refused, but I certainly just passed over the offers. I've never setup a paypal or similar system for donations and honestly don't plan to. It's always about giving back in my eyes.
That's why you'll always be seen as a better modder than me. ;)

Haven't played it yet, but if it'll get you working on the conversion sooner, I'll chip in 8-).
Yeah I'd like to get to it, but there's so much to do in the Fallout1 engine still. I'm always torn on which is better to focus on...

(for those who think I'm joking, go back and read some of Sduibek's posts; the guy has an attention to detail that scares me sometimes, and definitely scared Tim Cain).
lol about Tim Cain, I hadn't thought about that being the reason why he stopped responding. What kind of stuff are you referring to, regarding details? I know it's my gift as well as my curse but it'd be interesting to me if you recall specific examples.

Sduibek, what about donations? I think they'd not solve much in terms of economical issues but it'd be a small tangible way of appreciation from those who enjoyed FIXT a lot.
Okay I've got this set up. I feel kind of bad accepting donations, but I'm a student right now and my finances are shit, so if someone is gracious enough to send something I'll gladly accept it  :notworthy:

I have set up ability to make donations here.

hi, ive got a question, i never played fallout and just received my Fallout 1 USA Retail edition, i wanted the REAL first uncut edition. i read a lot about thismod fixing bugs etc. thats always nice :D
so i want the game played like the devs wanted it to be but of course with less bugs and so on, which option would you recommend?
i used now the 0.60 alpha and installed RECOMMENDED mode with all default checked options, i didnt click any at all. is it the best original experience with fixed experience?

and another one i used the resolution 1920x1080 but the menu options screen, creating character screen etc. are small not full sized like the videos, the main menu pic, is there a fix or which resolution would you recommend?
i also see too much from the map when i start which spoils the ways too early.

Weird exit grid bug found here is the save file.

It seems like when the player clicks to exit (on the left) they start running the opposite direction. Yes?

Strange bug.

EDIT: Ah! I think I know what's causing it. Thanks for the report. The edges of this map's scrolling is messed up, I need to confirm if that's my fault or if it's from the Hi-Res Patch...

Hi! That's not an easy answer unfortunately... I think maybe down the road I'll have more install options than just Fixes and Custom. For the time being, many of the things optional in the installer are "just for fun", meaning the devs didn't really work with that at all, I just implemented it because I thought it was a cool idea.

No, it's not best to just click ahead without reading them -- I know the list is long, but the options are meant to be considered.

This brings a good point though, I'll work on a third install option, a selection for those who haven't played the game and don't want all the spoliers of reading through that list.

Mash's high resolution patch does leave some screens in their original format, like the New Character screen. I'm not sure why he does it like that. I've reported the issue to him previously.

The "fix" here is really to just play at a lower resolution  Which is why I leave it at 640x480 by default. Personally I think anything higher than 800x600 just doesn't make sense for this game, unless you're a tester or modder.

Anyway you can browse through f1_res.ini, some of what you seek may be in there. The options should be documented well enough to be clear what they do.

thanks a lot mate :), well i just started the game with recommended installer from you but did leave everything like it was, i didnt check any for fun etc. and also read few points like clothing colour which i left on default as well. this should be then like a standard experience i guess? :D

i play on hard and rough, hope it is not frustrating though haha, just am in the cavern of vault 15, so i just played only 1 hour (cause i read all the stats etc.).

Heya

Thanks for fixt. Trying it for the first time. I installed it and shortcut says Fallout FIXT.bat isn't found. So, I assume there is no interface that saved what options you previously selected, in case you have to test a couple things?

The invasion on the other cities, was that already in the code or did you do that all by yourself? If so, couldn't you have written an option where we could have actually saved Zimmerman? Like me, there should be a dozen people out there, who wanted to save him...

You return to Boneyard and Zimmerman stands besides Razor and tells you about their incoming son, wouldn't that be cool? :)

I think this is fixed in my files now; just tested and he works fine, so

That's a good point I forgot about that. I'm almost done with the patch (it will be released today) and in that I've changed the installer to "use previous" on all settings. Folder, tasks, Start menu group, etc.

Schezza said:

Some code is original, I think most of it is TeamX though. Either original or TeamX. The only significant invasion code I've written is in Shady Sands. But I plan to rewrite it for all cities -- this is because the invasion code as-is results in "frozen bodies". Using a "kill_critter_type" command does this, so the kill code instead has to be manually added to every critter script on the map. Time-consuming ;)

Could you explain more or maybe phrase differently? I'm not sure what you mean, I thought you were asking about Super Mutant invasions..

Working on getting 6.1 released today.

It will be including Uncut patch for those with German version, just needing to decide if it's always included (1 installer, but bigger file size) or separate installer link for German versions.

SpookyNooky, once a version including Uncut Patch is released, would you please test for me? I want to make sure if you change to Language=German in fallout.cfg that it doesn't revert (saw your Steam posting about that) and also make sure the sfx exist, because your link there said that in Fallout 2 version they even removed the gore sounds.

Been a while since I did it, but basically if you show Zimmerman the proof that they killed his son, after the dialogue ended, you can initiate the fight first and kill the guard behind him. This way, Zimmerman temporarily becomes an ally until no hostile is in view/remains and you end your combat turn. After that, he's going hostile on you (only you and not villagers I think), leaving map and returning doesn't fix it.

So you've got to fix that in his code somehow, although it might be hard, cause he's really supposed to be a dead man. And if you provide Razor with weapons and invade Boneyard, he's hostile anyway - but that's right. It's just that there really should be a way to save his life.

Since the game already has the code for revisiting the map (the repositioning of Razor), you just need to apply the same to Zimmerman, move him 2 spots away, face same direction and add dialogue..

heyy whats up, razor and me put the past behind us and we're looking forward to make boneyard a better place. (he's a private man, he wont tell you that they are involved)

and if you talk to razor, she will say almost the same crap like before, but adds something like: I haven't told Jon yet, but I'm pregnant! I hope it becomes a boy! ^^

for more drama, u could add a dialogue allowing the player to tell zimmerman that razor is pregnant; after you did so, dialogue ends automatically and a message pops upon his head, oooh babyy, we're getting a babyy?? *happpyy*

Although, you'd have to add a timeline somewhere, otherwise people complain about getting pregnant and knowing about it in just 1 minute :P

thats actually good idea.. first revisit, razor tells you that they are making out... and if you visit 4-6 weeks later, then...

Nice screens man... haven't had time to try yet, but what happens if you have a savegame in a city and you change fixt so cities get invaded instantly? Normally I'd say crash, but since old Fallout had already cases where the loading preview and actual view were different, that might not even be the case. But I assume, for things like weapon throw upon crit death, it doesn't matter if you use an "old" savegame.

i hope the new patch will accept old savegames? :D

cause i played about 3 hours now and plz add an installer for people who dont wanna read spoilers ;).

I always wanted to save Zimmerman too interplay should have added the option to save him.

*edit* Dog meat has no sounds when attacking.

Caine: players from 6.0 should be fine, yes. You'll get a warning on loading saves until you save again, but it should be fine.

And I was thinking the same thing, a spoiler free option would be good. Thanks :)

Zimmerman is a great quest line, because you start out thinking he's right and then you think he's evil and then you just feel bad for him.

coldroll you're using red graphics for him, right? I know why then, thanks I'll fix it.

Yeah, I would be glad to test this.

EDIT: Yes, the gore sounds - as reported at "schnittberichte.com" - are missing in the german version. E.g no screams, no splatter sounds.

For others: The pictures on the left are uncut, and the right picture is the german version, so basically for all attacks one death animation.

So should I install the upcoming FIXT version on the english uncut version and change it back to german to see if the uncut status remains or should I install it upon the german version?
