Fallout 1 mod Fallout Fixt - next release will be some time in Jan 2020


Sduibek, there's a problem if I delete ddraw.dll included in your mod? The game was running incredible slow (I have a good PC, OS Win 7, it shouldn't be running slow like a turtle) so I followed a suggestion and deleted the ddraw.dll, and now the game is running 100% fine.
But I don't like deleting stuff that I don't know if will ruin the game, somehow. Should I expect errors, bugs to happen after doing this?
I'm looking forward to play this mod, if you could reply soon I would appreciate.
 
ddraw.dll being gone should not cause any bugs or crashes whatsoever. Only thing you'll lose is ability to run it in DirectDraw/DirectX mode, which doesn't change much anyway, and ability to use mousewheel in Inventory screens.

However, the slowness could be caused by the fact that ddraw allows the game to run at increased speed -- I usually have it at 3% to 6% increased personally.

I don't own or use 7 so it could in theory be a compatibility issue??

Make sure you try selecting Run As Administrator, also run in Windows XP SP3 mode, and disable the extra stuff like Visual Settings or whatever it's called.

Also for sure run the .exe directly versus the .bat and see if that helps :)
 
Running the game in compatibility mode didn't solve the problem for me, but I'll try disabling the other things, to see what happens.

The draw.dll included on your mod shows improved graphics?.

Zaius238, im having similar conflict, so we hope together could resolve this annoying problem. Your version of Fallout 1 its from GoG?

Looks like I forgot to set f1_res back to 8-bit for the installer (I run in 32-bit) which I can definitely see slowing things down, depending on the system:

Change that manually to 16 please, then test, and then 8, then test. Let me know if that helps.

Ok I tested and this happened (tested with old version of ddraw.dll <- the one included in your mod):

16: The game didn't started. I got a error message, saying that couldn't read memory.

8: The game starts normally, but when I load a saved game, my character moves horribly slow, aswell as anything on the screen.

Yes, it's from gog.com. Download the ddraw.dll from the link Sduibek posted above. Hopefully it will solve your problem, too. If that don't work, delete ddraw.dll from Fallout directory (it worked for me).

I've got a problem with FIXT mod - when with followers, I am experiencing occasional serious lags. The way I see it it's caused by followers (got all 4 of them) trying to get near the player characters but they are unable to. For example: I am in a room with only one door. Dogmeat gets in and since he's in optimal range from my character, he stays where he is - blocking the doorway. Other 3 followers tries to get close to me, but they can't, since doors are blocked by Dogmeat. And thats when major lags starts. I guess it's caused by followers calculating another way around over and over again. Not sure. But another possibility is my slow PC (500Mhz CPU, 128Mb ram and some old Matrox video card). I've tried to delete ddraw.ini and set resolution to default 640x480 and with 8bit graphics. Still same :(

What I want to know is what GOG's version is even there for. Weird. It's not like they even need it, at all. When you download and install the game from GOG does it also have ddraw.ini??

That's what Step Aside command is for ;)

The problem is not in blocked doors but in lags caused by, as far as I guess, followers. Will try to play for a while without them.

I've noticed similiar problem. When I was on some specific hex in the map, the followers AI can't compute their right position and keeping running around me. But I had only three party members so it wasn't so bad, because they compute it correctly after while.

Hair are for pussies ;) True kvlt raider bosses are wearing this.

I had two problems (so far) while playing your mod:

1 - I can't leave the farm near Hub (in the quest to kill the raiders) whithout the game crasing. There's a way to complete this quest?

2 - For some reason, I can't leave The Hub. If I try to move one feet out of the city (in worldmap), the game crashes. :shock:
If I try to rest a little in pipboy, the game also crashes.

This is w/ Alpha 1? Was this a new character created after installing Alpha 1?
