I would say that many fans are cautiously optimistic, based on what I've seen across all the message boards.

The optimistic fans just don't post here.

Eh, impression-based data is useless, either way. Do you speak enough European languages to get an impression of their reaction? No? Yet they are traditionally more significant as a whole than the US fanbase.

So hell, "no it isn't" is the only valid reply.

Your response really has nothing to do with what I said. This has nothing to do with impressions. I have flat out seen, "many" different fans that are optimistic about Fallout 3.

If its only a matter of looking at this website, then you would get the impression that most people are oppossed to it. But, this isn't about getting impressions.

Yes it is, you're trying to apply the sight of a number of forums (almost per definition not representative of people, according to some) that you've seen (which is an arbitrary pick and limitation) to conclude something you call "not an impression, but flat out seen."

No, it's an impression. And your little snide stab that I stick to this website doesn't change that, guess what, I branch out too. And according to you, that gives me the right to bellow my impressions as fact, so here they are: casual gamers are in an uproar at the next Oblivion game, Fallout fans are cautiously optimistic in a minority and cautiously pessimistic to wildly pessimistic in the majority. This is an international count, hence per definition better than yours. It's not an impression because I say it's not an impression, which according to you means it's more than just an impression.

Nice "I win"-post though. Very subpar.

What the hell are you going on about? This has nothing to do with impressions, or minorities, or majorities.

There are many Fallout fans that are optimistic about Fallout 3. That's a fact. Not an impression.

Any talk about minorities, majorities, casual, or hardcore gamers gets into impressions and unprovable positions.

Saying that there are many of something, doesn't imply a majority.

Ah, sorry, Autoduel, I missed your post was subtly different of the usual minority/majority nonsense. Apologies, my bad.

Define many and prove that statement.

I wouldn't call myself catiously optimistic, but instead of cursing Bethesda and attacking the people making the game, I really hope they do something good with it. It's coming out no matter what, I don't know why people want them to fail miserably. .. This may be a bad comparison... but I will describe my feeling as... going to eat at my favorite restaurant of all time, although it is under new management, new staff and cooks... I have my doubts and my preconceptions, but I pray I don't get food poisoning. And puke all over the table. And then the restaurant burns down. No... I want to be satisfied. Dammit.

It's xdarkyrex who started talking about the "silent majority" silliness.

:P By them I meant the people who, you know, don't spend their days on the internet, or don't post on fan websites, and casual gamers, and also the people over at all those other forums who are pretty optimistic.

Not trying to say that it is representative of the majority (or at least I changed my mind about that, since I can infer all I want, doesn't make it true), but in my experience most people just aren't terribly discriminating when it comes to games. They just want it to be fun, and care very little about anything else, such as whether you can drink out of toilets or whether its turn based or real time. They just care if it works, not why it works.

Hell, what about all those people who believe gaming magazines?

And don't forget all the fps fans, and the Oblivion fans who want 'Oblivion with gunz'.

And don't forget those people who just plain trust Bethesda.

And, of course, the fans of the old games who don't mind innovation or changes.

I think it's safe to say it is probably the majority who are looking forward to this game, if for no other reason than the fact that Beth has a really good hype engine.

If your satisfaction comes from killing things in first person, real-time shooter, that's fine with me, but don't blame me for my hopes that Bethesda will fail miserably and suffer a painful death. FPS is not what Fallout should be, it isn't ment to be on consoles, it isn't ment for 14 year old retards and it definately isn't ment to be real time. Bethesda ain't fans of Fallout mechanics, they are fans of the story and atmosphere and that is not enough for my satisfaction. Fallout 3 has nothing to do with Fallout 1 and Fallout 2. Fuck Bethesda for raping another franchise. There, I said it. And don't start with that fucking crap about immersion and such. Every time they make a new game in the series (Elder scrolls, Star Trek, whatever) - they take away the good parts and polish the graffikz.

p.s. Imagine Half-Life 3 to be a turn based, isometric rpg. You think fans of the franchise would be happy? Think again.

Well...I guess that being optimistic is possible if you do not consider Fallout 3 as a real sequel but a spin-off. That's what I do and I feel a little better about it. I just do not let the "3" fool me anymore and I take it for what it really is, a FPS with rpg elements, despite Pete and Todd's dumbass propaganda "its teh real r-peegee, just like FO1 and FO2 but with more immershun and pixelzz llo !!11!!".

It was a fine restaurant, serving local traditional foods, I liked eating in it. Someone decided that traditional foods don't sell and are last gen. They decided to transform it into a burger bar.
I no longer eat in it and I hope it will burn down.

Who needs that old classical Filet Mignon stuff, anyway? I mean, like only geezers and stuff eat that.. pfft.. Here, have some ground meat instead! You will never know what mix you'll get each time! It could be, rat meat? pidgeon meat? cat meat?.

Hey Todd, I came here for steak. What the hell is this? :|

Burger bar? More like a Starbucks. Let's copy a formula that sells 5674533453 times! That's the next gen way!

Anybody also felt that new vault dweller character is really ugly compared to original character? I think his face height is more than the original.

Something is definitely wrong with design.

Are you talking about the "Vault Boy" cartoon propeganda dude, or the Player Character?

other than the shade thing (or whatever the 2 blue tones are supposed to be) i don't really like, the rest is fine.

The difference in the face in not very visible. The most visible is that inexplicable lighter shade of blue around the collar.
Absolutely stupid since not even the new vault suits they made for Fallout 3 have it.

Another proof that Bethesda is not happy until they break everything.

Pfft. Difference is visible when it comes to drawing NEW face expressions, not copy/pasting the original ones.

It's not new, it's actually one of the oldest ones, for the GURPS skill "Tracking", found in the FO1 demo master.dat.
