Gametrailers.com exclusive Fallout 3 footage

@MrBumble: I think we all agree that FO3 is behind the times in graphics, (I could even compare the movement to Deus Ex to an extent) but I will say in it's defense, that as far as nonlinear games go, it's OK. Not great, but OK. Size & scope seems to limit graphic capabilities. We'll see how Far Cry 2 & Fable II looks. Maybe they will help change that.

Oh for fuck's sake. That's complete horseshit, and you know it.

Two Worlds has a world as large as Oblivion, last time I heard, and the graphics and animations are way better than in vanilla Oblivion.

So don't claim that size and scope limit graphical capabilities. Just, don't.

I also forgot to add that I also liked the bit about the radio station. I thought that was actually clever and cool that you could actually effect something like that in the game. That's something I always wanted to do in GTA, like blow up one of the station's HQ.

In GTASA the WCTR reacted to your progress in the storyline, changing the content.

Seriously, even the first GTA3 was way better at having radio stations.

Hey I don't know if this has been pointed out yet (or even if it's relevant) but if you look at her left shoulder you can see that Lyon's daughter has changed her BOS patch
she's supposed to have her own special section / squad, so that's really to be expected. a nice touch from Beth, if the whole model and face hadn't looked like utter shit.

Max Payne 2 was released 5 years ago...and you could play it on a 1.2 Ghz with a 32mo Video Card...
a Cugir/Romak PSL in Max Payne? i don't remember that...

It's called a Dragunov in the game actually ( aren't they the same rifles ? ).

The screenshot was taken by me. It's 100% legit/non-photoshopped in any way.

lol...well, sorry! Actually, my knowledge base doesn't spread out as far as Two Worlds. I'll have to look it up to even know what that is. I was only going on stuff I've played such as Fable and GTA IV. I'm just looking at something like Killzone 2 coming out, which is linear, and something like GTA IV which isn't. Killzone's graphics will utterly destroy GTA's. (it may even destroy the next GTA's) But whatever...I never said I was thrilled with the graphical quality in FO3, I know it's pretty weak, though I would be much happier if they had fixed the freakin' animations!!! There has always been a lack of quality in non-linear titles as compared to linear though. Whether or not Fallout 3 is up to snuff, well, OK, probably not.

I didn't mean the radio station talking about your progress. I've played all of the GTA's and know about that. I meant actually being able to blow up a station or something and actually stop the station from broadcasting altogether.

no, though it's a common marketing scheme in the US to sell PSLs as SVDs.

a PSL is based on the action of an AK (just make it bigger & longer), whereas an SVD (Dragunov) is an entirely different gun.

the picture from the game is a PSL (or derivative), whereas the picture of the weapon you just posted is a 'real' SVD.

easiest way to spot the difference:
- the safety leaver of the PSL is basically the same as an AK, the SVD has a bent safety lever.
- the stock is different (for instance the cheek rest is always integrated on the PSL, but it's a seperate adjustable piece on the Dragunov, which is optional).
- the furniture is different (the PSL has 2 piece horizontally split AK-style furniture, the SVD has 2 piece vertically split furniture).
- the triggerguard and mag release are touching on the PSL, not on the SVD.
- the PSL receiver is stamped, whereas the SVD receiver is milled (though you obviously couldn't tell the difference from a game screenshot).

It's the symbol of the Lyons' Pride elite squad.

You seriously need to get a different hobby SuA, you're scaring the geek out of me. ;)

Have you tried looking at the Mafia 2 screenshots? Mafia 2 may have a bit smaller world than GTA IV, but it's still big. And graphics are absolutely beautiful. It seems to be on par with Crysis even.. And hey, Crysis has pretty big open areas too. Of course not as big as Fallout 3, but you get the point. :)
On the other hand, first Mafia, released in 2002 looks much nicer to me than GTASA, especially car models.

You know... if compare Oblivion with Two Worlds, Oblivion was piece of shit, but Two Worlds - big dunghill.

You may say that Mass Effect better, but Mass Effect is shooter.
GTA IV? Look at money that R* spent for development.

Finally managed to watch all of that video.. When I saw some of the leaked gameplay footage, I was extremely disgusted by that shitty combat music, and I thought to myself "this sounds like that shit I had to turn off in Crysis". And now I found out that it is the same guy who did Crysis music, that also made Fallout 3 music.
I'm trying hard to not become an extreme "Beth-hater", I even like modded Morrowind a lot, but for fuck's sake.. It seems that they are purposefully TRYING to make all the wrong decisions! Can they really be that fucking stupid? (Of course this is a rhetorical question).
What's interesting, that the guy who did music for previous Fallout games had no objection to doing it for the third one, all they had to do was ask him.. Well pay him too, but I don't suppose that this dude they hired did that for free either.

Oblivion was a 8.2 on my ratings sytem. Two Worlds was a 3.6. Two Worlds was made by retards. Oblivion was made by greedy corporate slaves. Guess who wins.

BTW, Fallout is a 9.7 for me.

@Multidirectional: No, I haven't checked out Mafia II, but I'll be sure to do that. I think it was the first one I tried to play on a console and was enjoying it for the few minutes until the load times attacked. I actually stopped playing for that reason. (they were constant and not just long) I also ignored Far Cry (for no good reason) and someone pulled me onto Far Cry 2 so now I'm looking forward to it as well.

On the music: I saw, what I thought, was most of those videos, but I didn't catch the music being bad at any point. Though granted I was listening to it more during the exploring and town scenes. I thought that was good. Hm, anyway... I do agree that they could have gotten the original composer, but I think the head management at Beth is the problem. They seemed to take issue with anyone from the previous development helping them with the current one. It's like they have some kind of grudge or feel like they have something to prove. Stupid. The actual designers probably would have enjoyed working with the people they could from Interplay and Black Isle, unless in reality they are all a bunch of jerk snobs.

they might be some "fanboys" who received a lot of laughs and ignorances from Black Isle devs over their suggestions...

I do agree on music composer thou, the kind of music played in old fallout is unique and really fitting, i havent seen its kind in a game still.

You know...I actually noticed the soundtrack of Battlestar Galactica (at least the first two seasons) was very similar to Fallout. (at least to me) I think it's done by Bear McCreary. I was sitting there watching the show and was like, "this sounds kind of familiar." :) I bought them for that reason. I'm sure there are a lot of people they could have gotten to better suit the mood, but I won't pick on Zur until I actually hear it myself. Some people seemed to be excited about it.

EDIT: Heh, and if I really think the music sucks, I'll just turn the music down, pull up iTunes and play the originals! :D

I'm talking about the fixed GotY edition from Steam, not the initial crappy release.

I have to stop reading all of this. You guys say the storyline is horrible, but I really can't trust you guys. Everything that you see minor problems with in FO3, you blow way out of proportion. I will just have to see the story for myself. This is just ruining the game for me.

If you're looking for non-cliche' storyline, and overused type of bosses, this is not the game you want.
