So tell me about games or challenges within games which you either accomplished or attempted and whether they made you feel proud (if it took skill) or pathetic (if it just took lots of time with not real ability necessary).

Really I made this thread to talk about something that's really making me mad and I had to use that general first paragraph to make this for everyone and not just my rant.

Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat

I can't complete this game. Well actually I just can't complete this one mission. I've played numerous RTS previously where the most difficult mission (usually the final one) takes over an hour and a few tries, but this one is ridiculous. I've tried over twenty attempts. Luckily the missions only take about ten minutes on average so I've only wasted about four hours, but THAT'S STILL TERRIBLE!

Now mind you the hardest mission in any RTS might be too hard for a casual fan. Problem is casual single-player fans get owned by casual online competitive fans and they get owned by pro level competitive fans. I'm a semi-pro at my best online RTS.

Seriously the game testers must have been Warhammer/RTS pros with masochistic tendencies.

I've looked up any and every guide/walkthrough/lets play and theres nothing I'm doing wrong. The one lets play I found with a mission complete was playing the PS version (much easier) and it still took him almost ten tries!

I've read the manual for any game concepts I missed and there are none.

Listen. They have six regiments of Black Orcs, two regiments of Arrer Boyz, two Doom Divers (orc artillery), one Night Goblin regiment, one Goblin Sticker regiment, and one Troll. I have two cavalry regiments, two infantry regiments, one crossbow regiment, two mortars, one amber wizard, and just for this mission an extra infantry regiment. So for one thing I'm outnumbered, but also this mission takes place immediately after a previous one so there's no returning to town to replace my losses which puts all my squads at half strength. Also the enemy is charging from uphill. In fact the height difference from my starting location to their camp is five different tiers.

In order to satisfy my need to see the rest of the game, but knowing I can't do it myself I'm watching a let's Play of the rest. I feel frustrated though that I can't complete myself especially since I'm a great player of RTS. Not to mention the time invested in the game and that one mission thus far.

Reaching the final boss in I wanna be the Guy of course. I haven't been able to beat it yet, but the whole game is a torture and for passing those parts, I feel proud of it.

Apart from that, beating Xen on UT at hardest difficulty. It was hard until I cheesed a lot with 1 particular weapon. ;)

    Congratulations. You are Japanese!

No seriously that's tough. I still can't beat half the MM games I've played though I loved them up until the ending I couldn't reach.

I don't want to believe you. You must either have not had a single game to buy and play or like to brag and have balls (and patience) of steel.

Beating Halo on Legendary was probably the hardest time I've ever had with a shooter. I was pretty proud after that.

Even doing a full melee playthrough (except where you're required to shoot/use a turret) in GoW on Insane was easier than Legendary Halo.

To be honest, I can't think of any single time where I was particularly proud to have beaten a game.

I did beat Shadow of the Horned Rat, though. ;)

    - Geting all Platin points in Blast corps

    - Geting all stars in Mario N64 AND access to the roof

    - beating the shit out of Ghosts n Ghouls, Super R Type. Wining those games was already hard enough ...

The latter would be appropiate. I consider it the most extreme test of reflex and trial & error I ever did. It's a shame I can't beat the final boss though. I think I spent nearly 2 weeks on it, going away from frustration, and then coming back and beating certain parts in some tries. There's no better proof than my word though, since if I give out a save, you could say I downloaded it from somewhere else.

Don't misunderstand me, I really enjoyed the game. It was frustrating, but getting to the next save block felt like a triumph.

Of course, there's this nutty person who claims to have beaten the entire game in impossible difficulty(no saves). Now that's something I don't want to believe.

Yes, I did this too, I can't believe I did it without a walkthrough, since I'm used to looking at them for some games.

Another game I discovered all the secrets without a walkthrough was Super Mario World. That felt really good.

I salute you, I never beat that game. :salute:

I've beat GoW 1/2 and Halo 3 on insane/ legendary respectively, but I guess that's the equivalent of 'easy mode' to some of these other games..

The craziest thing I've ever done was get 100 super jumps in a row on Mario RPG for the SNES. You are rewarded with one of the best items in the game for doing so--the super suit.

I've played this game a whole lot of times in the fourteen years since it was released, and I always sort of thought the 100 super jumps task was impossible.

After days and days of obsessive effort, I finally did it last year. I came close several times, getting to 95 or 97 and then failing and it was infinitely frustrating.

I did it the real way too: no emulator, no slow-mo, no save states. Just the console and the controller. Mario RPG is one of my favorite games of all time, and to finally complete it 100% was wonderful.

Seeing as how I grew up with during the heydey of the NES, most of my "proudest" gaming moments are tied to that console... and a majority of the games that were released on the NES were Japanese...

I also mostly play racing games and jRPG's now, so any moments I have will more than likely stem from Japanese games... although there isn't much to be proud of in terms of gaming achievements in a jRPG.

I heard if you play at least 20 ours a day regularly the SNES chance is high that you tourn in to a Japanese ...

    I smell a conspiracy.

I lived in Japan for over two years, but trust me, I'm not (nor will I ever be) Japanese.

Crni is just mad because no matter what he does, he's always going to be a Latverian.

You'd think they'd appreciate having Dr. Doom making sure the trains run on time, but nooooooooo...

Somewhat early on (shortly after the Borderlands) there comes a point in the game where you can choose to go into three seperate directions. IIRC, you could go west, heading for the forest of Loren, north into the Empire through the mountain pass, or head for the Dwarven realms.

Judging by your available troops and the lay of the land, you took the western route, skipping at least 30% of the game and proceeding directly to the last part of the game with a weak army. I suggest you load an earlier savegame and take one of the other routes.

Ahhh! this one i remember from my childhood, in Little Big Adventure 2 there is a part where you are in this island

and you have to jump over a (not so easy to see) broken fence, but the trick is: you have to jump on some pipes first and then over the fence, i guess this is in the "pathetic" category  , it took me days to notice the damn broken fence. Its hard to say anything more but iam sure that the people who played this, know what i am talking about.

Beating Double Dragon III on SNES. That game was insanely hard.

Getting 1000 out of 1000 achievements for GTA IV.

    Getting all Orange Box achievements.

    Beating Demolition Man on Genesis.
