Gaming Accomplishments of Extreme Difficulty

Beating Double Dragon III on SNES. That game was insanely hard.
Definitely, I did that with my buddy last year. I remember playing it back in the day (rented it) but I don't remember if I beat it or not.

Yeah, all the Ghouls 'n Ghosts/Ghosts 'n Goblins games are pretty tough but, like Mega Man, I beat it so many times back in the day that I don't respect it. I picked up Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts the other day to check if it's hard (I own Ghouls 'n Ghosts for the Genesis) and it was pretty brutal.

Beating every mission on 00 Agent in Goldeneye 007 for the N64 was pretty tough, I never managed to get invincibility (Facility in under 2 minutes). I'd put Perfect Dark there too, beating ever mission on Perfect Agent is tough and beating every challenge is brutal, especially once they start giving you retarded allies that constantly loose the match for you.

I can't complete this game. Well actually I just can't complete this one mission. I've played numerous RTS previously where the most difficult mission (usually the final one) takes over an hour and a few tries, but this one is ridiculous. I've tried over twenty attempts. Luckily the missions only take about ten minutes on average so I've only wasted about four hours, but THAT'S STILL TERRIBLE!

Listen. They have six regiments of Black Orcs, two regiments of Arrer Boyz, two Doom Divers (orc artillery), one Night Goblin regiment, one Goblin Sticker regiment, and one Troll. I have two cavalry regiments, two infantry regiments, one crossbow regiment, two mortars, one amber wizard, and just for this mission an extra infantry regiment. So for one thing I'm outnumbered, but also this mission takes place immediately after a previous one so there's no returning to town to replace my losses which puts all my squads at half strength. Also the enemy is charging from uphill. In fact the height difference from my starting location to their camp is five different tiers.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Somewhat early on (shortly after the Borderlands) there comes a point in the game where you can choose to go into three separate directions. IIRC, you could go west, heading for the forest of Loren, north into the Empire through the mountain pass, or head for the Dwarven realms.

Judging by your available troops and the lay of the land, you took the western route, skipping at least 30% of the game and proceeding directly to the last part of the game with a weak army. I suggest you load an earlier savegame and take one of the other routes.

I appreciate your advice, but...

You have the choice of helping the Elves (go to Loren), the Dwarves (go to Zhufbar), or helping stop the Orc invasion of Wissenheim (around the city). Since the elves and dwarves can be helped later, but the Wissenheim missions are either complete-or-skip I chose to do them. They involve three consecutive missions the last of which is unbeatable. It's called Shattered Pass. Look up a Let's Play video of it as an example.

I suppose I could skip the Wissenheim mission set or just retreat and fail that one mission, but if I'm gonna do all I have already I won't settle for anything less than 100% complete.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

I made it nearly to The Guys castle in IWBTG on Impossible, the anger was unimaginable making it that far just to die.

Hoxie in Rage now that would be a picture

Anyway, yeah the goldeney N64 version! I once had the luck to get a save game from someone who really managed to beat everything. Those missions have been awesome.

Ah nothing that bad, just really red-faced for a second.

Another came to mind though, beat nearly all of the Call of Duty games on Veteran, though some were easier than others, they were all frustrating at points.

Beating Chronicles of Riddick: EFBB on the hardest difficulty setting(ps3). And in the end i only got the gold trophy for the hard finish...i still have to finish the game on normal to get the silver trophy... :twitch:

Finally beating the damn turbo tunnel in Battletoads.
And getting to the end.....beat it? No, not yet.
Sega Genesis DOES N O T COUNT....
It's far easier than the NES version.

Beating the "Kick Me Sign" challenge in God Hand on Hard without using overpowered moves.

Also I reached the end of MGS2 on Extreme (the pain...) but I've never been able to beat Solidus. ARGH!

Mmm.
Got the asteroid achievement in Dead Space, forgot what it was called. I actually did it on Hard Mode, I have no idea how that impacts that particular mini-game segment but still, I felt the game was too easy on Normal Mode so I was cruising through it in Hard.
That's nothing amazing but y'gotta give me something.

I've beaten Nethack, that was a true bitch.

I've done what Stanislao did half-way, I beat God Hand on Hard Mode but definitely not with the Kick Me sign on my back, that looks like way too much.

Beating Bayonetta on Hard difficulty was also at times a chore, it's no DMC though.

I did, the original Contra coop with my brother ages ago, a lot of it's memorizing both types of the levels though, getting good enough is just half the battle.

The later Contras I can't say, I don't think the original is the most difficult at all.

Anyone here who beat one of the Contra games without cheating?

Anyone?

I believe that I have. It's hard to say because I had one of those cartridges that had different "games" and all of them were Contra, just with different number of lives. I'm not sure if I ever did it with 3.

Oh yeah, not sure how I forgot about that. I beat the NES version back in the day and I'll be damned to get past the turbo tunnel these days. I love the arcade game but it's easier. Still think the arcade game looks very nice though.

I managed to beat it on every difficulty and I was working on getting dogtags. Unfortunately, my save is right before Vamp on Extreme so whenever I load it up I'm in hell. I've actually almost beat him once cold, after only a couple tries but it was a fluke.

I've beaten the original without cheating, my cousin could beat it without loosing a life back in the day (he owned it and "solved" it, it was like a puzzle to him). I've also beat Hard Corps and Contra III legit. I don't think I've ever beaten Super C legit, but it was always a rental and at least on par with the original for difficulty, if not harder. Contra III is the easiest one that I've played.

Kid Chameleon without taking the shortcut to the final boss after the first boss. Probably the best 2D platformer I've played actually, kind of too bad that Sega hasn't made a sequel, though with where Sonic is at...

I remember playing and beating MGS2 on the PC. That is a achievement. Why you ask ? Cause the controls are shit with a keyboard ... someone at MGS forgot to do a GOOD port from the console ...

Sure. Once. Quite a while ago is when all we did was play NES in the winter. As been said before, memorization and practice it wasn't too terribly bad.

Another good accomplishment for me was actually getting through the Mission Impossible game for the NES and beating a game, can't remember the title, for the NES before I had to go to school. First grade I believe and was the first game I conquered. It resembled Contra sorta but don't remember the name.

I think I lost my mind. Because I find that Dead Space is one of the most difficult games I've played. I still didn'f finsihed it, because every "alien" I encounter rips my whole energy apart, one hit and "Isac" is ripped in pieces, and I'm playing on the normal difficulty. Seriously, one second you don't pay attention and you're dead with one single hit. Now tell me, HOW IS IT ON THE HARDEST DIFFICULTY?

And yeah, back in the days on NES and SNES I've found all the mega man games to be a huge part to be proud of when beaten, or some Final Fantasy Games on it (though it needs just grinding).

I'm normally playing on "normal", but beating Mass Effect 1 or 2 on Insane was also sometimes kind of frustrating.

I don't get how Dead Space was so hard for some, even on Impossible difficulty, every alien still took a good few solid hits to kill. Most were on the ground without legs before they even got to me most of the time, from weapons still being pretty devastating to them, even on the hardest difficulty.

My Impossible difficulty run was also a One Gun (Use only the plasma cutter) run, still it gave me next to no problems. I may have died once from not paying attention, from one of the insta-kill wallhuggers, but that was about it really. :P

My brother and I beat contra 1 back in the day on the NES... cool stuff.

Nobody has ever beaten Battletoads... ever. If anybody claims to, they are lying. The game is impossible.

I can't think of anything as difficult as Mega Man 1, that I've managed to beat. Contra wasn't nearly as hard in my opinion, neither the Contra for the SNES. I found Wizards and Warriors 2 harder I think, the controls were so retarded it made the game difficult.
