General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

After seeing the Alice: Madness Returns teaser I've picked up the prequel, American McGee's Alice.
I must say I'm positively surprised, the game grasped me from the start, *excellent* artwork.

Playing some Thief Gold now. Took some time to get it to run on XP (as to be expected with pretty much any old game). Some crap with it being a single-core game (much like System Shock 2) kept getting me confused.

Wait for the Mad Hatter :D This game has outstanding artwork, true.

Got Wing Commander 3 to work on DosBox, haven't played this game in 15 years when my computer wouldn't play it after the first disc. Sucks I know the whole story, but should be fun anyways.

Gothic II Gold.

Holy cow, that game is hard. First time I've played it, and it certainly took awhile to get used to the still wacky control scheme. Not as bad as the first game, which I've played through twice, but still not a system that comes to you intuitively. It does work pretty well though once you get the hang of it. The add-in Night of the Raven definitely makes things harder as well. But I guess part of that is me hoarding skill points before finally making a decision what to do with them. I'll probably end up going two-handers, crossbow, paladin.

Strangely, the voice acting and writing seems a tad worse than in the first game. Intonations sometimes just seem off, as if the actors didn't really know the situation or the context and had only been given a block of disconnected sentences they had to read aloud.

Penumbra Overture. Got it bundled with the rest of the series for $9.99 off steam (also thinking of buying either EU III complete, HoI III or Warband before the paradox sale ends). I think this is my first foray into the horror/suspense genre of games(not counting the various shooters I've played that wanted to be scary but weren't simply because I knew could shoot anything I encountered). A few hours in and it seems okayish. Very tense and very atmospheric, but the creatures I've encountered so far are pretty mundane, and their AI, pathfinding ability, and animations aren't anything special. Still, the very first encounter with a lowly dog caught me off guard. Really frayed my nerves and made me panic as I had no way of defending myself and I had no idea when or even if I would come across a weapon. and so far, the shock horror hasn't really worn off. Killing monsters is quick, easy, and routine, but I still get scared for a second or two when I become aware of enemies.

Just started playing Dragon Age. The music is really boring, and that Fade level was annoying. Rest of it is pretty decent though.

I installed Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive and it was fun for a while, but then the game started to freeze and each and every time I restarted it would freeze up again, so I uninstalled it.

Then I installed Divine Divinity and the latest patch and now the game just crashed, Windows asking me if I want to report the problem. Yeah, right. So I uninstalled that one as well.

I'm pretty bored right now. I'll probably just start playing with myself for a change.

Playing Geneforge. Technically speaking it's a piece of shit that consistently gobbles up way too much CPU time and can't be run in a window.

But it's still heaps of fun and a great RPG.

Oblivion, or to be more precise downloading mods for Oblivion, something I do every couple of months. A few times I may even play Oblivion though that's mostly just to see if the mods work.
Though OOO is making the game pretty interesting.

Just killing time until the space opera known as Starcraft 2 is released.

Done this a few times myself, though I don't know why.

I bought Final Fight: Double Impact which is basicly Final Fight and Magic Sword in one package. Playing Final Fight.

Same, though not with Oblivion. I think i had more time downloading mods for Fallout 3 than actually playing it. With this amount, i'm enjoying this playthrough quite a bit.

I think the appeal of downloading mods for Beth games is the possibilities the mods add, very few mods for other games add so much and are so many. Shame it requires so many before the game becomes good.

Playing Starcraft 2 at the moment, gotta love medics. I hate not having them.

It also might have to do with FO3's or Oblivion's worlds feeling so empty. Beth just (inadvertly) leaves a lot room to add content.

I have about 20 installed mods. Five or so are beauty mods but the rest manage pretty well into turning FO3 into a semi-decent STALKER clone.

Also playing Starcraft 2

I like the detail they have put into the levels but the campaign feels somewhat slow so far, not much story development yet.

Also, I had some strange problems with my PC, one in which the computer locked up, for some reason Java was forced to close and when I was forced to hard reset I got the message of retrieving the Bios of prior use or go back to default.

First time I had that with this computer.

One thing I sometimes dislike about the missions is how fast you sometimes have to act while you lack the resources to immediately build up.
