General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

I just finished the original campaign for Heroes of Might and Magic 5. All six campaigns and 30 missions...I wasn't keeping track, but easily over 60 hours I think it took. Although it could be tedious at times due to some missions being too hard from rediculously large enemy armies most of them were very well made. I loved the Necro campaign and Markal had an excellently picked voice actor for the look and speech of the character.

I can't believe I love strategy so much and this is the first HoMM game I've ever played. It's GREAT! I'm also sure the expansions will add quite a bit more with not only new factions, but expanding previous factions as well.

I'm definitely gonna get HoMM 6 too even if I hear it's dumbed down since the creators admit that fans are quite mad and promised to change things.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Got roped into playing WoW again after a 7 month break.

Going through ZG/ZA again with the new heroics is neat, but after ~15 runs each they're both starting to feel way too familiar. Firelands on the other hand, is quite awesome. The fights are technical, but not tedious (Lady Vashj, anyone?).

Really looking forward to 4.3 at the moment.

I'm putting my big boy pants on and am going to continue Silent Hill 2 tonite. I'm hoping this game starts making sense at some point, as of now, a lot of it is just... stupid? Where did this fat guy order a fresh pizza from? Why am I constantly walking in on pyramidhead mid-rape? Is that all he does? AWKWEIRD!
The game is certainly tense/unsettling, but I'm not really scared for my life. I'm wondering if I should restart the game on hard action/normal puzzles. I just got to the school after chasing the little girl through the stripclub. I havent fired my handgun once. Suggestions on difficulty? Does the game get harder?

Playing Deus Ex for the first time (original, not Human Revolution), wanted to see what the big fuss was about.

I'm about 20 minutes in and I think I can already say with confidence that this is going to become one of my favorite games of all time. I love it.

Finished DX:HR , it took me some time considering I tried to non-lethally pick every enemy hand-to-hand, hack every terminal (even if I had codes ) etc. Got almost all augmentations as a result. The game itself is great, petty things like facial animations or sometimes dumb AI do not trouble me at all, also I really like the graphic style. Two downsides are boss battles (typhoon helps a lot to end these miserable episodes) and last location or two, which rushed to close all the plots swiftly, the last one was also very linear. Nevertheless, it's one of the greatest games lately, quite a bit above Witcher 2 as my GOTY so far

@TVD I really encourage you to play HoMM3 , for majority of people (including me) this is the best part in the series. The complete version is on Gog for $9.99, which is a steal considering you have 18 campaigns there IIRC. And after beating them you can install Wake of the Gods unofficial expansion, all other HoMM games will disappear from your mind then.

Medieval 2: Total War. Nothing quite like starting in 3 backwater provinces in France, and crushing puny heretics in Russia a hundred years later or so with a full stack of knights and crack mercenary, with a General so feared he can charge at an army and have them immediately break ranks. Too bad the AI doesn't put enough of a fight imo; the later games has it defend itself way better.

PS: the Pope is impossibly annoying in this game. Is excommunication that bad? 'Cause I want to trash England and the fucker won't let me.

Working my way through a stack of unplayed games... trying to finish up Eternal Sonata. Started on Dead to Rights: Retribution. Made my way through Marval Ultimate Alliance.

I usually end up destroying the Papal states even if I'm a Christian nation like Spain or France.

Exocommunication is bad if you don't want your only possible allies to end up hating you. Not to mention that the Pope will send tons of inquisitors to your territory to kill your generals.

How do you like eternal sonata? after finally finishing lost Odyssey this week I'm craving some new jrpgs. Blue Dragon isn't cutting it for me.

It's been years since I played M2TW but, I always remember a viable strategy to counter the pope was to vote for him and it usually also helped to get as many of your Priests promoted to cardinals to swing the vote in your favor, possibly having one of your cardinals become the pope. With a high favor (lots of crosses) you can make him mad but not mad enough for excommunication. Good Luck, fantastic game, especially with mods. I loved playing France in Road To Jeruselem and Dues Lo Vult. Plant that Oriflamme and give them no quarter!

So I started playing Dead Rising 2 and one thing I noticed immediately is the improved A.I of the NPC's you have to save. Now they actually punch zombies that come towards them instead of running directly towards a hord of zombies.

You're better than me. Right now his Inquisitors are tearing through my generals (I lost Prince Louis to them, who had 8 Command and almost maxed Dread, I mean ffs) and I had to call upon a few Assassins to return the favor. My standing with the self-righteous bastard always depletes because England, The Holy Roman Empire (who allowed to let me pass a few turns earlier, the double-crossing M-Fers) and Milan don't stop attacking me and I have to retaliate. Now the Holy Romans have been excommunicated and Milan has been reduced to almost nothing, but the damn Britons are a thorn on my side. Biggest bullshit is that I had to reload because my King didn't get to the Holy Land fast enough during a Crusade (I mean, the ship takes about 7 turn to get there, and since land movement speed is pathetic my King was 4 turns away from the next boat). Boom, instant excommunication and revolt in most cities because I tax the shit out of them dirt-covered peasants. Wait till the English are booted out of France and Rome gets it next.

As for mods, I will beat a vanilla campaign before. Stainless Steel looks good, however.

After beating a campaign try playing as one of the Islamic civs, it's a completely different experience.

Thanks I'll be sure to play them.

By the way korindabar how is Eternal Sonata? I hear it's highly underrated.

Eternal Sonata is good, if you like anime and classical music.

The progression of battles is fairly steep, and the battle system can be fairly tough for some though. Since I don't have a x360, I specifically tracked down a ps3 copy for it. There are a lot of easy to miss things typical of jRPG, but most of the things are straight forward. The setting and themes are a bit typical of a shoujo fantasy, so take that what you will.

I'm gonna trade in my old games this week and I'm looking for suggestions on games to get; I'm a bit ocd so I like games with LOTS of content. I was thinking of picking up Dead Island considering what Ive seen on youtube it looks like a long game. I was also considering Deus Ex HR, considering Invisible war was one of my favorite games from the original run on xbox. Any other suggestions for 360?

I've made some real progress in Earthbound today. I've reached the fourth Your Sanctuary location and recruited the last party member.

Earthbound rocks!!! Just beat Spiderman: Edge of Time and El Shaddai. El Shaddai was one of the most original titles I have played this year. Don't know what to play next though. Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is a must buy for me, and I think I will try Skyrim.
