Other than just discussing the games other people are playing, if it wasn't for SOME level of adventure into "something else", anything I'd have to say here would just seem like a broken record. Always "playing Dota 2 right now", but I FINALLY got around to giving Bioshock Infinite a shot after almost a whole year. Initially the reasons I didn't play BSI were monetary in nature, but a few months ago it was lent to me by a friend who wanted me to experience its awesomeness. Well, thanks to Dota, it took me a few more months to go from being in possession of the game to actually PLAYING it..... and wow!
There's still a few games of the last year that are on my radar which I've needed to pick up, chiefly The Last of Us. However while I was expecting a good game out of Infinite, since it was the latest installment in the series since plain 'ol Bioshock (can't count BS2, since it was a different studio, and any cursory glance would tell you that, just like FO3, it was full of absurdities and canon-breaking bad ideas, with little more to its narrative than simply regurgitating the previous game(s)'s material) but I was decently surprised by how much the ending blew my mind. I wouldn't say it was the most profound ending of any game... far from it. But given the action-packed and rather simplistic ride that made up the majority of the game leading up to the ending offered little more than minor mystery solving, the sudden depth that the game violently switched to at the end was jarring in a delightful way. It answered my nagging questions of "HOW can they call this a 'Bioshock' title instead of just changing the name a bit slightly, if it's not a direct sequel/prequel?" and "Why the fuck does it have the subtitle 'Infinite' slapped on at the end?" at the very end, and my God that was brilliantly addressed.
So, I've beaten it 3 times already, and now I'm replaying it again a 4th time, just for further enjoyment. Like getting myself to actually put the damn disc in my PS3, I need to motivate myself to download the DLCs, but I've heard simply good things about the Burial at Sea episodes, so I don't suppose there's any reason to delay. Just one more run on 1999 mode doing something different than my last, see what more the new episodes add, and then... =D
