General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Yeah, that does sound pretty shitty.
Honestly, I'm glad I never bought Civ 6. Civ 5 fulfills my Civ needs, and for the rest of it Endless Legend covers it.

Then again I am burned out on 4x at the moment.

My patience for the 4x genre exists only in short lasting bursts with long, looong pauses between. Back when I was single, smoked tons of weed every day, and had a general disdain for human life, I would love to immerse myself completely and entirely into these games, take my time, make it epic, and micromanage and grow.

Lately I have become one of these "casuals" that I used to resent. Take Kingdom Come, for example. Were I only a couple of years younger - or - found myself in the same place I were a couple of years ago, I would easily spend hours and hours getting immersed, building my character, evaluating my priorities in skills, levelling, learning the lore, the background etc. In the end, as my life is now, I played the tutorial, and not much else. Not that I disliked it, I just can't find the mood to play that kind of game anymore. Small part of me kind of misses that life, where nobody really matters, and spending 6000 krones on weed seemed like a clever investment (we'd get excellent deals!)

In fact, talking of other games played - I'm such a casual by now, I've actually been playing No Man's Sky a lot :V

Dude, I got a PS4 recently. As far as being "casual" goes, I've hit rock bottom.
I sit in the evening, open a cold one and play Uncharted or some such shit. Small part of me, the part which back when I was 15 used to edit files of original Wasteland abandonware in order to run it through DOS and play it all night, is screaming in pain. The other part of me which is tired of same mundane shit happening for years back is...enjoying in playing mundane shit in the evening. And I don't think that's even ironic, looking at it.

Just finished playing Planescape and wow what a journey. I'm still shaking from the sheer awe i felt upon completing it; no words will ever be able to describe the immeasurable sense of meaningfulness it brought to me. This game blew my mind. I recommended it to anyone reading this, if you haven't played it yet, you do not know what you're missing. This video game is the first d&d one i completed, and the setting of Planescape has fascinated me so much that I am almost thinking of buying the campaign setting for 100$ on amazon. This game was so inspiring for an aspiring writer such as myself that I now want to write stories set in this universe and learn more about the various planes hovering the multiverse. Fucking Christ I think this is officially my favourite video game ever. Its gonna take me weeks to recover from this one.
Well anyways I guess next on my list is Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines. Playing an rpg that isn't isometric for once is gonna feel refreshing, and knowing Troika, this one is not gonna disappoint.

I wish Planescape was available as a novel or graphical novel or something. I remember playing it on my old CPU's small screen and my eyes getting tired from all the reading. At the time I was in uni so plenty of crap to read etc. But I remember that it was good, and graphically interesting.

Making it a novel or a graphic novel would kill PST's greatest strength - the fact that it is a video game.

Comics set in the planescape universe can have, in the right hands, the possibilities of doing very interesting things visually. I think there are comics existing already but they're pretty expensive so I don't know if any of them are worthwhile.

It's not about the setting - which is, admittedly and undeniably unique and amazing and can be adapted into an excellent graphic novel. It is about the fact that Nameless One's adventure has weight and significance because it is ridden with player's choice, along with a good deal of lore and history to factor into it. Eliminate player's agency, and you are left with a very good story about an original figure set in a unique world. That is, on one hand, a pretty good deal. On the other, it's nowhere near as amazing as experiencing it from the perspective of the main character.
Reading about the Nameless One vs. playing Nameless One through his endless toils across the Planes simply doesn't compare.

Technically there are two novelisations of PS:T.

One being full of inaccuracies and reads like fan-fiction from what I've heard about the book (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/738124.Torment) while the other is more like a copy and paste of the in-game dialogue and significant scenes in the game that comes bundled with the GOG release of PS:T (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2501881.Planescape_Torment).

Both don't quite capture the experience of having to play through TNO's journey though. Experiencing them first hand as a player rather than an observer makes a difference.

Still would rather have a CYOA Planescape book instead.
It's kinda like those other narrative games I've seen where the game parts do very little other than bridge cutscenes imo. The only thing that separates PST from Uncharted and other crap like it is that it actually has good writing that isnt just generic blockbuster trash.
That, and I would rather imagine the setting for some reason.

Yeah I agree. It was so fun talking to npcs as TNO and learning about all your previous "selves" through memories. Plus the whole amnesia scenario, that is so common in rpgs and kind of stale at this point, was necessary in this game and added a lot of mysteriousness to the planes and your own past, making the storyline (almost) always engaging.
Also Morte is bae

Well yes but I would still like all the texts from the game in printed form. For some reason I remember my eyes getting tired reading it all etc. Would be good to have the book with the game's texts while playing the actual game. For a text heavy game I would actually prefer that.

But also a good/great book set in that universe/setting would also be interesting.

Older RPGs were like that. Wasteland for instance, had a number of paragraph in dialogue, and then you find that paragraph in a book and read it. But I guess you know that.

I can understand the issue with reading tho. I never had it, but know people who can't read stuff on the screen without their eyes/head hurting. On the other hand, good glasses fix most issues.

Anyway back to what games we're wasting time on
I'm playing STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl. I beat it in high school but wanted to play all three. Didn't feel right to have a 6 or 7 year time gap between SoC and Clear Skies.
Also, playing Tyranny when I have the chance.

My monitor back then was really small. Can't remember what settings I used for Planescape but I just couldn't get it right.

Been thinking about one of those huge & wide PC monitors for gaming etc. purposes. Might be a better investment then a big tv.

Waiting for new Hitman I've picked up Death to Spies games on GOG. While they seemed like some cheap russian bootlegs, they're actually really fun (especially second one where they've fixed everything wrong with the first one).

You play as USSR special agent during WW2. Missions range from kidnapping Nazi officer from the local depot to saving a fellow agent from the FBI custody and faking his death.

Locations are great. They're mostly huge, very open levels. But there are also two small and, tight levels that are more frustrating than fun.

I've got some gripes with 1st game. There are max 3 disguises on map, you've got to stun/ kill a lot of people in some places, driving isn't that great, two maps are super tight, but overall it's a good stealth game (and second one is just great).

If you're gaming, yes. Though some TVs have a gaming mode, there's still some latency and other problems using a TV. If you're doing multiplayer and taking it seriously don't get a TV. If it's single player games, TVs should be mostly fine.

I would like to get like that Nintendo Zapper was. Wonder why they aren't making games with those things, FPS etc. all kinds of games. With a brand spanking smart tv a zapper ought to work great, or with a computer monitor.

@Alphons

new Hitman might actually be interesting, might get it.

New Hitman looks alot like Hitman 2016. Not a bad thing of course.

Was going to 100% Fallout 4 so i never had to go back to the game again but i got to around 95% done and kinda quit since it was so boring in the end.
Started up Rise of the tomb raider instead trying to do the same and suprisingly enough the extra game modes are kinda fun now that the main campaing and the story dlc's are done.

Thinking of picking up the newest tomb raider but i guess i should wait for dlc's and a price drop so now i have no idea what to play once i am done in a day or 3.
