General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

I'm honestly getting some big "Planesscape: Torment" vibes from it even though the setting is obviously much different.
I wouldn't say the story is on the same level of quality but the way it's written and driven by the story is decently similar in my opinion. They both also know how to be funny without letting it ruin the serious moments very well.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it.
It hasn't hit me with a sad gut-punch yet but I expect one of those to show up eventually
OH HO just you wait.

Age of Mythology DS finally arrived after nearly two months (stupid ass virus slowing mail dow) and enjoying it so far. Myth units are a lot more balanced in this game compared to the PC game, they can actually be defeated by human units.
After playing this for several more hours, i finally noticed which game Age of Mythology DS has the most resemblance with and that's Advance Wars. I though it was like Fire Emblem, but then noticed Advance Wars is a far more apt resemblance. These two games have so many similar mechanics beyond being tactical turn based that it had to be intentional.

And i ain't complaining, Advance Wars games are great and seeing other franchises use the same mechanics is fine by me.

I've been playing Disco Elysium lately and I'm currently on Day 4 within the game, probably one of the most interesting and beautiful gaming experiences that I've had in a while. It hasn't hit me with a sad gut-punch yet but I expect one of those to show up eventually, I'm honestly getting some big "Planesscape: Torment" vibes from it even though the setting is obviously much different.

Stand-out cool/funny (non-spoiler) things about it thus far off the top of my head:
  • A scary thug named Measurehead who is devoted to scientifically ranking all of the in-game races
  • The entire musical score, holy shit it's so good
  • The use of internal dialogue to reveal lore (which there is A LOT of)
  • The fact that the setting constantly is keeping me guessing between whether it is science-fiction, urban fantasy or something else entirely
  • Probably has one of the best video-game companions of all time

Never would have guessed an Anarchist would like that game.

:hatersgonnahate:

I look forward to playing it when it is ten bucks. Last night I finally won a tourney in Kingdom Come. It was a bit anti climactic but I had fun. The duels feel real as hell. All it would need is Lancing.

The Age of Empires DS game was the same way, good times.

Never would have guessed an Anarchist would like that game.

While I agree with them on some stuff I definitely don't consider myself an Anarchist, though being referred to as one feels significantly better than someone calling me a "Liberal"

Then the word Liberal truly has lost it's intended meaning. You can be liberal with certain things and not be a disgusting Leftist Extremist.

Oh shit gaming thread. Carry on with games....get out Brony. NOOOOO!

Yeah that is why I brought it (Anarchy) up. I am excited to play it for those types of reasons.

This game just keeps getting great content. I love it.

These last two weeks I have been playing;

-Blaster Master Zero and its sequel. These are pretty fun games with a lot of old school gameplay and charm. I would have loved to have played these games on my SNES or GBA back in the day

My gameplay session of Blaster Master Zero 2 was temporary interrupted by;

-Starcraft 2 Nova Cover Ops, and the fan made Starcraft Mass Recall which is a remake of Starcraft 1, its expansion Brood War, and a couple of mini campaigns called Enslavers, Enslavers Dark Vengeance, and Resurrection.
I am going to open a thread about RTS games in a moment in which I will talk about my thoughts on Starcraft 2 and Mass Recall.

I also tried out the Dolphin emulator (Gamecube and Wii) because I really wanted to see if Timesplitters Future Perfect, one of my favorite FPS games works well on it (I own the game physically so I can't be accused of theft). This game can be played on the emulator with mouse support which I really wanted to try out as I do not like FPS played with controllers.

In general it works pretty well though it suffered from slowdowns. I wonder if that was because I had other windows open or that i need to configure the emulator to run better.

Once I am done with Blaster Master and Mass Recall I may give this another playthrough.

Persona 5 Royal, got to the penultimate dungeon of the original game.

New character Kasumi offers to join the group then. Despite in this point of the story your group being in need of extra help because of the danger and threat posed by the villain, both Morgana and Joker agree that the smart thing to do is to reject her offer because of the aforementioned strength of the villain. All I could think was "You guys just didn't want to reanimate all those expensive anime cutscenes to include her, now, didn't you?".

So far the improvements to gameplay in Persona 5 Royal are pretty good, but this Kasumi character is too waifu bait forced on you for my tastes, she is better than Marie from P4G but she is none the less too blatantly forced on you as a romance option when the other girls are always presented as only available when you progress through their confindets. I still haven't started the "Third Term" tho. The game still takes a loooooong time to progress the story, even when you beat the dungeons, but I am having fun with it, I just wanna get to the new shit faster without skipping through dialogue.

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH STARBUCKS

I sold office furniture and artwork business to business out of the back of my 1994 F350 in Dallas. I was trained at the time by this black guy who used to drive around and get spun as hell. He showed me how to get free french fries at McDonalds. My boss was this dude who looked like the Angry Videogame Nerd but Jewish. I was pulled over by a cop and even though I didn't have a permit, he bought a picture frame of all of the guns of law enforcement from the 1700's, to today, with brass frame for 120 bucks.

However that job ended when I totaled my truck on the freeway. Long story.

I don't think its very easy to do now that "The world has changed as we know it."

However it's basically. "Hey, Can I have those fries RIGHT THERE." RIGHT THERE, can I just get one of those?

Finally played Breath of The Wild. Game is mediocre and has some surprisingly bad combat. You have to try to die sometimes, or get knocked on your ass down a hill when you're pretty sure you dodged correctly(maybe dodging is harder than Dark Souls'?). It doesn't have the charm and atmosphere of previous Zeldas, or the puzzles. Just makes me want to go back and finally finish Wind Waker, so that's good.
Also, what the hell are these fairy fountains?

Gameplay: 5.5/10 (serviceable, but more automated than Tomb Raider in some ways)
Story: 6/10 (Least favorite out of all the ones I've played)
Art Direction/graphics: 8/10 (Better than the majority/about what you'd expect)
World/level design: 7/10 (It's fine)
Characters: 6/10 (I like the Rito accordion guy and a few others)
Quests: 5/10 (I looked through my side quests and all of them are fetch quests. Main story quests carry this one)

Overall: 7/10
A bad Skyrim copy with a cooking mechanic. The worst main entry Zelda(never played Skyward Sword).

Replaying Megaman X collection on my ps2 and realizing how shit it looks on newer tvs, guess if I want to play older games I'm gonna have to fish out some old crt like a TRUE retro gamer.
Yes you will. I had been looking for a CRT TV for years. So I could play my PS2. I finally found one at the start of this year and played the hell out of it when I didn't have a computer.
Best thing I ever did was make it so I can play games from my usb and hard drive. I finally could play Policenauts for PSX.

Never disagreed with somebody more regarding a Zelda game. Nope/10
It did have some issues though. Mainly it needed to add more survival elements than it already had. Zelda has always had fetch quests. It's not known for quest structure.

I actually still have the CRT I grew-up with. Flat screen 720(simulated) Sanyo from like '04, or something. We got it for Metroid Prime when that came out as the old 90's Zenith had too much color fade for that game. Was thinking of chucking it out, but never could. Seeing this convo has convinced me to keep it. :)

Admittedly, I am being more harsh than the game deserves(especially on the scoring), but it just doesn't have that Zelda charm/feel for me. Then again, I could be jaded. The Gerudo desert and it's divine beast have been the best for me so far. Sadly, that was the first place I went to after the first two villages.
