General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Orphan of Kos wasn't that hard for me, the boss that made me spit blood and bile was Laurence, only boss in the game that I needed NPC help for, not only is it hard but it gets sturdier and more annoying when you get it to low health and it loses it's legs, somehow gets much harder to manage than when it can jump around.

OoK was the hardest for me but Bloodborne was the first one I played fully before giving DS a second chance. I wouldn't say Souls combat is mindless. Simple, sure. Mindless, not really. You make deliberate decisions to take actions based off what you see happening. When you make bad decisions or panicked ones, you are punished for it. If you cue up an attack during a roll I don't remember there being a way to cancel that action happening. You already made the decision. The Souls-like games benefit from a lack of cancelling animations in my opinion. It makes what you do feel deliberate instead of spamming attacks then reacting only when absolutely necessary despite where your attack animation might be.

EDIT: Also, fuck Amygdala in the Defiled Chalice. That turns an easy boss fight into a real meatgrinder.

I never did the Chalice Dungeons, Stream chat told me they were mostly grindy proceduraly generated dungeons so I never did more than 3 of them.

The wierdest boss to me was Mikolash. I got one shotted over and over on the last portion of the fight, and stream chat insisted it was easy, then I decided on a whime to get cheeky and did a drop attack on him on the last portion and killed it before he had any chance to use the tentacles and magic at all. It was kinda funny.

They kind of are? The main ones are fine in my opinion. Doing the randomly generated ones is just those same assets (which are already reused plenty) just randomly assorted.

There are some new bosses and enemy types though. I wanted to beat all the bosses.

Rangerbook like clockwork lmao.

I think the main issues with Dark Souls 2 is the absolute disconnect between visual feedback and mechanics, there is a very clear lack of polish on the visual department, shit just doesn't connect so unlike Dark Souls 1 playing it isn't as intuitive, parrying is much harder because it jus doesn't look right, I did a Strenght build and using heavy two hand weapons is such a shitshow, also Scholars of the first sin is just a troll mod, I can't believe there is no way to play the originaal version on PC.
Also the art style
Hitboxes
The fact that you dont even have proper analogue control
The level design
The enemy placement
The ai
The and the world map overall not making any sense

Maybe I was overstating a little, it's obviously not just hack and slash. It's more that the simplicity and the rhythm that you get into once you master the game feels very muscle-memory esque to my mind. It's a nice way to play and it's pretty cool but I find that "thoughtless" in the sense that I can actively listen to a podcast whilst fighting bosses in Dark Souls and not lose focus on either whatsoever, which can't be said for more complicated games. I find the same thing with shooters like Halo, for example.

DARK SOULS IS HURD MEME.
*Flatten everything with the giant fuck you sword I got from like the 2nd black knight I killed*
Yeah so difficult. I get why people liked the game, but it just didn't hold my interest.

I think my main problem with Dark Souls is that it is rather slow, and sometimes I just don't have that kind of patience.

However when you find pieces of people completing it using a Guitar Hero drum kit, I'm like "Well yeah, they are essentially rhythm games".
Honestly, they are games I don't have that much patience for, there's a lot of trial and error to them and the unforgiving nature kills it for me.

Maybe of I try then out in the future, I may enjoy them more. I have Dark Souls 3 on my steam account, maybe once I get a better computer, I'll give it another shot

Dark Souls is pretty forgiving in my opinion. You don't really lose anything besides unspent souls which if you had enough to level up with, most people go level up with. And by the time you'd be hoarding so many souls you can't use yet, you're probably familiar enough with the game to not die without grabbing them again on your chance to get them back. Otherwise, you have slow weapon degradation in DeS, DS1, and BB and no actual degradation in DS2 and 3. You die, the most you lost is your time. Like any other game reverting you to a save.

Hell, Dark Souls 2 just stops spawning enemies that have been killed enough times. If you brute force your way to a boss or just run the area 15 times you'll have a completely free path to a boss. In the non-DS2 ones, you can usually find shortcuts or ways to just circumvent fighting enemies on your way to the boss.

I don't know, I don't get the common complaints. Besides being a bit obtuse about what you should be doing like upgrading weapons or how useful what skill is or the soft caps for levels.

"I got a super lucky item drop that rarely happens"

Yeah but that's definitely not everyones experience tho.

You fell for my trap card. while I did flatten people with my big fuck you sword, I flattened even more people with another big fuck you sword I got from a cemetery right near the starting area. Other than the beginner hazards and areas that murdered the frame rate I found this supposed difficulty to be overhyped and maybe just maaaaaaaaybe people should be less trash at videogames.

also the fanbase seem like a bunch of fucking weirdos right up there with Earthbound and Minecraft players.

The majority of the fanbase just goes on about how hard things are and who beat what in the least amount of tries and argue about the etiquette of online invasions and shit. They want every boss to be super challenging.

I got addicted to DS right after highschool. Had beaten Smaug & Ornstein by day 9 without looking stuff up or having the console online. I'd still say it's hard though. The little crevice with the skeletons that;d use the carriage wheels on you was pretty bad. Black knights and the pigs were always fun to fight.

I used silver knight armor near the end + upgraded dingy robe. Did some role play and wore that while going to avenge the womans murder. Ronin style.

Gonna go back to streaming (to 3 people max lmao) tonight to start Dark Souls 3.
I already did a Skill build in BB and DS1, a ST one in DS2 so I think I am gonna do a Miracle or magic one in DS3, I have never used the magic in Dark Souls so it might be fun.
