GTA V

Considering that they upgraded the engine to DX11 for Max Payne 3 and it allows deferred MSAA it would be pretty stupid of them not to include it in GTA V. One hopes them screens are from console version.

Is there anything known about optimization?

God damn Rockstar and their shitty port, shitty graphics (by today's standard) that required a top-notch system (at release time and somewhat even now)

Kinda ironic considering Rockstar and Grand Theft Auto started out and got popular with the PC platform.

Highlights from a big Game Informer Preview:

There are 3 playable main characters. Their names are Trevor, Franklin and Michael.
You can switch between them at any point when not on a mission. When you switch, the camera zooms out into the sky and then back down to the character you switched to.

You can switch to another playable character during missions where they work together. This happens instantly.

Each one has its own personality, motivations and skillset. When you're not controlling them, their lifes continue and you may be surprised to see what situations they find themselves in when you switch back.

GTAV's game world is bigger than the worlds of Red Dead Redemption, San Andreas and GTA IV combined!

Damn, switchable characters? Sounds like its gonna be quite an interesting GTA game :D

Of the main storyline missions, there'll be several complex missions focussed on heists in style of "Three Leaf Clover" from GTAIV.
In that case I hope there's a huge improvement to the checkpoint system. In 45 minute mission where it comes down to performing perfectly on imperfect controls and not running into a bug I'm going to simply quit playing if I have to start over at the beginning because a teammate gitched out trying to walk over a curb and got shot, or I try to hide behind a trash can and end up going through it right into the faces of four guys with machine guns.

Was this the mission where you robbed that bank and had to escape through a subway tunnel? If that's so then yeah I agree, had to restart it a couple of times too. Was fun though.

GTAV is looking/sounding gut.

But with kmh you have to use bigger numbers which makes them more awesome. :smug:

Nope. San Andreas alone already suffered badly from its too-massive scope. Not looking forward to trecking along yet another overly huge map.

The goal is to make it all "BIGGER" and "BETTER" than before which is a shame, coz it makes for an awesome bulletpoint list when you can spout stuff off like HUGE WORLD and THREE PCS but it doesn't necessarily make a better game. Still, people expect a lot from them, can't blame em for going all big-huge on us.

Rockstar North? Is Scottish.

What was wrong with San Andreas' vast map ??
What's wrong with none of the three characters being a woman, must there now be a token woman in the maincast just for the sake of it to be politically correct?

I'll be impressed once a game reaches the size of Daggerfall without randomizing anything.

They couldn't make one of the three females playable characters female.

I know, this is my biggest issue with the series.

Yeah, because there are tons of psychopathic criminal woman that steal cars, murder hundreds of civilians, and don't look ridiculous while doing so. How many females actually play GTA anyway? 3 or 4? Play Saints Row if you want to play as women. GTA is a man's game. Seriously though, that's your biggest issue? Wanting to play as some badass criminal chick?

Massive, but empty?

How about you tell us, what's so good in having an all male cast?

Are you seriously stating that?

Not really. Kinda half joking. I can't imagine them pulling of a realistic female lead though. I hardly like their male leads. Maybe some kind of Bonnie and Clyde thing would work. Aren't most mafioso types males? It just sounds...too far fetched. I can see it now - some hot blonde chick running around with daisy dukes and every guy in the game hitting on her. Maybe a Yakuza chick or a Latino badass would be plausible. Honestly, I'm tired of seeing female leads shoehorned into games that don't need it.

It seems like males are more prone to going apeshit and killing cops and driving 120 mph through traffic. How many woman go on mass murdering sprees? Sure there are plenty of woman criminals, but I usually see meth heads do stuff like that. Maybe make the female lead a huge meth addict. That would be believable. They would have to really make her believable or it would look stupid as shit. I'm so sick of seeing woman portrayed as ultra sexy Tomb Raider-esque killing machines. Not saying it couldn't be done, but doing it and doing it right are two different things.

Is it unreasonable to want something that makes sense? How many woman are in the mob for instance? Other than in the movies of course. Sure GTA isn't supposed to be realistic, but I like it to be kinda believable. Maybe the female lead was raped and left for dead by some shady types and she is out for revenge. That might work, even though it's been done to death. I'm just struggling to imagine what it would look like in GTA.

Hell, I wouldn't mind if they did it good, but I often find their portrayals in video games to be outright absurd. The female characters in GTA 4 sucked for the most part. I do remember Rockstar talking about this same subject before and they didn't seem to think it was a good idea either. At any rate, I don't feel strongly opposed to it, as I said before, so take that for what it's worth.
