Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

Hi I tried this and it worked fine in 1680*1050... but then I decided it was too big, so I wanted to revert to a smaller resolution, like 1024*640, but this isnt possible for me. Idk whats wrong, everytime I use f2_res_patcher.exe to remove the patch and reinstall nothing simply happens, it just stays in the 1680*1050.
Even after I reapplied the resolution patch from scratch... can someone please help me on this?

~edit~

I have sfall too, could it be that?

Sorry everyone I've been off the grid last couple of days.
Version 1.8a of my fallout2 patch is up with a fix for the Custom button in the Combat Dialogue Screen.
For Cornellius: just got around to updating my links, you should be able to grab version 1.8a from my sig or the first post now.

Did you set AUTO_SCRN_SIZE to 0 in the f2_res.ini file?

For trollish: I'll check it out and get back to you asap.

Hi.

Thank you for excellent Fallout 2 patch, however i've got following problem: i can't go back from New Reno 2nd street to New Reno Virgin. I can''t get/scroll to green exit grid.

I'm using 800x600 resolution, HiRes Patch v 1.8, Fallout Restoration Project 1.2, sfall 1.37. Green area is visible on 640x480 and 1024x768 resolution. Only 800x600 seems to have a problem.
Is there any way to fix this? I'm really used to 800x600 res ;)

EDIT While ago i tried HigRes 1.7 patch - no problem, green area is visible.
Yep I've goofed something up there. It's late here and I must get some sleep but I'll attack it first thing tomorrow.

Mash so you now go to fit the fallout interface grafics and menus?

A questin, you know the offsets for the interface buttons.

This is very cool patch you have made. Very nice. :)

I downloaded the patch a few days ago. I have a few questions though.

1. When I downloaded the patch and installed it I started my game up and I noticed the main screen with load and new game options was small. It was about a medium sized square with black around it in the middle of my screen. Is there a way I can fix this problem?

2. The character dialogue screens and the games control panel is small and I can see the map on both sides. They dont each cover thier own parts of the screen respectively. Is there away I can fix this as well? I was thinking in the ini file but I dont know how.

Also this is my first time using a patch and all. So Im not very experienced with this. I just wanted to see how good Fallout2 looked in a higher res.

Im running Fallout 1 and 2 on an older pc with windows 98. I heard getting it to run in xp was kind of difficult so I built a pc from some old parts I hadnt thrown out yet. I might try getting it on my laptop though. Please help out if you can. Thanks

Didn't get much time for fallouty things today, hope to get a fix for the current map border bug out tomorrow.

For Mr.Wolna:
I've can move the buttons, console etc. for the iface panel. It's still experimental and I still need to make a user friendly way of creating a custom iface panel. I'll post some screen shots of my progress when I get the chance.

For fallout_fan:
I've yet to find a good way of scaling the various windows. At the moment I'm looking at recreating larger versions of some of them, but it's very much a work in progress.
Depending on what res your running at you may suffer some slowness on older hardware. For the most part the fallouts run fine under xp. And it should be possible to get the hi-res patches running on your laptop.

hey mash that will be really amazimng, when you done PM me plz, cause a good friendl modder sit makeing a new button for Mr.Fixit.

Thanks for the help and answers. My pc running windows 98 is a P 166 with 96 MB ram and a 4 MB pci virge video card. I have my desktop set to 800x600. I experience no slow down at all, it runs smoothly.

I have one more question though. Does the high res patch adjust automatically to my resolution?

Also How do I change things in the ini file? I changed the resolution from Fallout 2 default resolution to my resolution of 800x600 and didnt notice much difference. So does this mean it was automatically adjusted? Also every thing looks smaller and better visual wise. Not freakishly small like theres a problem just it looks like the pics I have seen of the high res patch in use.

Windowed mode.

I feel I am missing something here. I have killap's amazing Fallout 1.02+ (1.02.25) US/UK Patch - Installer, and I'm using the latest version of this patch. Which settings in the ddraw.ini and the f2res_.ini do I need to have to run in windowed at a higher res.

I would like to be running at probably 1024x768 or maybe 1280x1024 on my monitor which is 1680x1050, it works great full screen but I can't deal with not being able to tab in and out quickly.

I was playing in windowed mode before the high res patch just by setting mode=5. I set that back to 0 when I installed this mod. Now I'm just not sure what to change and where, and if this is even possible.

Thanks for any and all help

Does this support widescreen resolutions (my native is 1680x1050)
Yep that's the res I use.

AUTO_SCRN_SIZE is what your looking for its at the top of the f2_res.ini file. Set it to 0 and then set your SCR_WIDTH and SCR_HEIGHT values. You should also check out the included read-me found in the f2_res folder for more info.

I'd set both the same.
For ddraw.ini:
Mode=5
GraphicsWidth=1280
GraphicsHeight=1024
For f2_res.ini:
AUTO_SCRN_SIZE = 0
SCR_WIDTH = 1280
SCR_HEIGHT = 1024
That should get the result you want.

Edit:
Made a small update to the fallout2 hi-res patch now at version 1.8b. Fixed a bug with the map limits that I created in version 1.8. As usual check my sig or the first post for links.

I'm getting a black screen and an application error every time I go to Trapper Town in Klamath. Error message is:

The instruction at 004af46a referenced memory at 00000028
The memory could not be read from

This is on a pretty virgin SP2 install running inside Parallels Desktop running at any resolution I want, full-screen.

Any ideas, or just no respatch for me? :( It works great in the other areas I've gotten to so far in my new game...

I'm seeing the same problem. With and without the high-res patch... With update 1.2...

So, is this really the right place then? If it has nothing to do with the res-patch I mean.

Does it work to go to Klamath Canyon (crashed vertibird site)?
Do you by chance have the German Fallout 2?

If you have an nvidia card, set a whatever you want to use as a custom resolution in the control panel

You probably don't have that resolution set in your control panel. First create a custom resoluion for your video card. Than set the resolution in the game. It should work.

I wanted to play at 1440x900 and had to do the same.

For those who have installed the resolution patcher and still do not see any changes, here's what I did. I patched FO2 and it ran fine with the new res patch, when I used it on FO1 nothing happened. So I went into the interplay folder and went to the falloutw.exe , right clicked, went to properties and checked on windows compatibility for windows 95, worked like a charm!

By the way THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH for this wonderful MODIFICATION! You should try to mod the game some more, like improve the GUI and make the game even better than it already is! You should be proud of yourself, if I had known about this patch in the summer, I would have been playing FO1 and 2 again!

I get a "failed to initialize at 640x480" CTD whenever I try to run the GOG version of Fallout 1 with the high resolution patch.

Deleting ddraw.dll didn't help.

Running Sfall didn't help.

Running various compatibility settings didn't help.

Renaming the game exe didn't help.

Any and all combinations of the above didn't help.

I'm on a q6600/8800gtx WinXP+SP2 machine.

Suggestions would be most welcome. FO1 looks a bit crap in 640x480 on an 8:5 screen.

Try setting COLOUR_BITS to 8 in the "f1_res.ini" file, this seems to help some people. (I will be setting this to default in the next version)
Also try setting AUTO_SCRN_SIZE to 0 and adjust the res manually with the SCR_WIDTH and SCR_HEIGHT settings. Try some other common resolutions if your first choice doesn't work.
Fallout1 seems to be a bit more fussy then fallout2.

For FOForever:
Others have reported the same when using the US 1.1 version of Fallout under WinXP. Just wondering if your using the 1.1 version? In any case I'll mention the compatibility fix in the read-me when I next update the patch.

Thanks a lot Mash. 8 bit colour did the trick.

Still, I can't run the game in less than 1680x1050. Fortunately I have a nice, big 24" screen, so the game is playable. But it'd be nice if there was some way to get around it. Trying to find stuff on the ground is a game in itself now.
