Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

I`m not sure what you mean with resolution, 1024*x768 i guess. I dont know if the game resolution is the same.
I have not installed anything that have replaced the exe. file.
And Fallout2 High Resolution Patch v2.2b is installed.

I was wrong about the hi-res patch being pre-installed. If you used the RP installer you have to select the hi-res patch in the extras section for it to be installed. It turns out the hi-res patch is required to get certain maps (EPA) to function properly.
To check if the hi-res patch is installed, click the "Options" button on the main-menu. At the top of the Game Pref window there should be a button labelled "SCRN".
If you can't see it then the hi-res patch is not installed. And you will have to reinstall the RP selecting the hi-res patch in the installer. (Be sure to back-up your saves)

Still no exit grid

The hi-res patch seems to be installed in the options menu and I re-installed it . I think I checked all the options available when I installed the whole patch. And I installed the resolution patch afterward. Could that be the problem.
The resolution patch installed twice?

Thanks for the fast reply by the way:-)

I can see the exit!

Problem solved. I un-installed everything and installed it with all options again. This time i didnt install the resolution patch since it is already built in.
I boosted a character and made fast way to EPA. The exit grid is there and the weekend is saved, thanks for making Fallout better experience for us all

I.

A new version of the hi-res patch is available 2.2c. A minor update for the most part more details can be found in the first post. Links in my sig.

I've included updated map edge data for the RP2.0 that I've tweaked for resolutions from 640x480 up to 1920x1200. I've also included map edge data for the Megamod 2.42 made by Nirran.
Don't forget to set the map edges folder to the mod your using(set to vanilla fallout2 by default).

black areas

Hi, I'm playing with 1440x900 resolution
but the image does not cover the entire screen, I get black borders around the sides.
is there any way I can change that?
thanks in advance.

( it happens only in encounters in the mountains)

The problem is that the smaller maps in Fallout are about 1000 pixels wide (even smaller for some basements). The black borders in RP are an attempt to hide some of the ugliness left by the Black Isle developers. Remember this game is meant to be played at 640x480, if I removed the black borders you would hate it. Now in regards to the best playable resolution, everyone has an opinion, and mine is - the original resolution is the best if you want to see the artwork in better detail, and experience a greater sense of immersion (800x600 is pretty nice as well).

thanks for the reply. I was so excited by the high resolution, so I had almost forgotten how the game looked like in normal mode. :D

Yes "800x600" is the best choice i think if you want to play with higher resolution.
Otherwise it becomes too difficult to find the objects laying on the ground.

Yes, but you can use shift ( i think) to highlight objects on the ground

It all depends on the dpi and how good your eye sight is.
I play at 1680x1050 on my 22" lcd with no eye strain.

The monitor makes all the difference; a huge monitor can play Fallout at a higher resolution with losing the smaller details, my old CRT monitor makes Fallout look tiny at resolutions higher than 1280x1024.

Im having trouble while installing so called hi-res patch 2.2c on Fallout2 .. have to mention i have tried a fresh install with the game then apply hi-res patch but with same error message

thanks for your kindly answer ;)

and another question is everytime i start a new game( have to mention its a clean version with without any patch ), after those intro scene and come to where i can really start to move my character then it freeze .. its freeze and i cannot move my cursor, i cannot alt-tab and even Alt-Ctrl-Del also not response, the only i can do is hard push the Shut Down button

now i can install the patch successfully but the freeze issue i posted above still not solve yet, it freeze at main menu.

Sorry not sure what would be causing that.
From your screen shot I assume your running Vista or Win7. For pre Vista games it's best to install somewhere other than "Program Files" eg "C:\Games". It may not be causing your current issue but installing somewhere else will avoid a host of other problems.
You may also want to check out Killap's Restoration Project, as well as bug fixes it includes alot of new content and includes the hi-res patch in its installer. It due for an update in the next week or so, so you may want to hold out until than. You should be able to find plenty of info about it in these forums.

Hi im having the above problem after i install the latest res patch. Im using megamod 2.42. It installs fine (the res patch), and the game works when i uninstall it again. Its just when installed do i get this error... do i have to update sfall for the megamod or something?because the main menu in-game says that my current sfall version is 2.4.2 and at the top it says theres a later version of 2.8.2.

It seems the Mega Mod still includes a modified version of the fallout2.exe. Replacing the exe with an unmodified one should fix the problem. Sfall includes all the necessary fixes so this modified exe is redundant.
You can get an unmodified exe from the Fallout 2 Official US Patch v1.02. Extract it somewhere temporary then copy the included fallout2.exe over the modded one. You should then be able to rerun the f2_res_patcher.exe to install the hi-res patch.
