honest gaming opinions thread

I don't get the appeal of it, I personally think it's fucking retarded and a dumbed down shitty version of the old pokemon games(not the ones where they started making the pokemon look like garbage pail kids). It's like if they made a Fallout GO game(just making up an example) where you needed to walk on one of those tread mill mechanisms to move your character and hold a physical plastic weapon to emulate realizmz, I'm sure it sounds great to some but to me it's silly.

Doom 4 showed that there is still a market for unapologetic single player FPS games. Bring back Kingpin! Unreal! Soldier of Fortune! Quake! SiN! Blood!
And bring back TIE Fighter and Crimson Skies. Those were awesome.

But to be actually honest, I'm kinda done with video games. I play from time to time, but I'm seriously getting too old for this shit. They just don't get to me like they used to. Too many other hobbies taking up my time, hobbies that are simply more important to me than mediocre virtual stories. I'd rather read a book or watch a good show, because let's be honest here, video games only recently reached a proper quality in writing, apart from some exceptions.
I guess video games just aren't my sort of hobby anymore. Games in general are fun, but I just prefer them in a face-to-face setting. I'd join a LAN party in a heartbeat, but fuck no online gaming. Even fucking Uno is tons more fun with a few beers and a couple of friends than pointing and clicking while some dickless 13 year old screeches into your headset. Pen&Papers are where it's at, really.
Frankly, this whole "gamer subculture" is just ridiculous. Those kids on 9gag who apparently never read a real book being all "OMG I CRIED BECAUSE THAT GAME WAS SO GOOD I FELT SO EMPTY AFTER I FINISHED". Fuck that shit. There's so much world out there, real world with real people. Those virtual worlds are so sallow in comparison. They look all cool on the surface, but honestly, most are just empty.

- While I like the actual Fallout games, none of them are in the top five of my own list of favorite games of all time.
- New Vegas is just as good as the classic games and should be regarded as one of the classics.
- I have not tried any of the Icewind Dale games (and don't intend to).
- Planescape: Torment's game-play is quite poor even if the writing is great.
- I'm willing to give Bioware a chance to redeem themselves one of these days (though it's unlikely that they will)
- I actually liked some aspects of Dragon Age 2 and did not think it was a complete train-wreck though it is creatively stiffled.
- I'm fond of Minecraft as it gives me something to do while listening to a good podcast.
- I think Witcher 2 is the worst of The Witcher games.
- I prefer Resident Evil 4 over the older RE games (though said older games are superior to RE 5 and 6).
- I think most JRPGs are terrible save for a few exceptions.
- I think Wasteland 2 and Pillars of Eternity could have been improved.
- Telltale games are overrated and poorly written.
- I like Undertale (though I hate its fandom).
- Oblivion was alright as a game while Skyrim is mostly inoffensive.
- Mass Effect 3 was alright even with its stupid writing at times.
- I don't see the appeal of the Metal Gear games.
- I think Pokemon GO may have some influence over how the masses view AR games (or at least raise awareness about them).
- I don't think Torment: Tides of Numenera will be a great game.
- I think remasters are alright as long as the remasters are for actual old games.
- I was hoping that No Man's Sky would suck (or be critically panned even if it was a commercial success).
- I think writers should stop being afraid over being called out for being politically incorrect as long as they can maintain writing integrity.
- I think there has been a rise in moronic circle-jerking behavior among modern gamers these days (especially in fandoms)
- I think a large majority of gamers these days are stupid or too obsessed with graphics.
- I think there should be another game industry crash so that the current slate can be wiped clean and it can begin again.

It's a real shame that kids these days believe that the current generation of games are telling great stories when only a few of those games are even bothering with writing.

What's even worse is that those kids will claim Fallout 4 has good writing...

The sad thing is that I've seen this said about Kid in the Fridge.

Bethesda's marketing did state that they lack the attention span for reading, after all.
If I were to analyze Kid in the Fridge as someone without any knowledge of Fallout, all I'll get is that it's a typical re-unite family story with the twist that the family has unnaturally long life and that's about it. I won't feel anything about it since the quest was so short and negligible. The only tears I'll be shedding will be from not blinking due to the shock from how dull the quest was.

As someone with actual Fallout knowledge, I feel like banging my head against wall if I were to analyze this quest.

I sometimes play Sims 2 for the fun of it

By that I mean, not ONLY the manly stuff like drowning them in pools, or making them consistently shit themselves or trying to see how many pools of piss i can gather in a house-hold, or trying to block exits by moving furniture, putting the sims to sleep, while leaving the stove on, burning them all inside, or trying to litterally make them fist-fight themselves into exhaustion death

sometimes I actually make them keep jobs
call friends
and get promoted to better jobs
Sims 2 is fucking incredible, and you shouldn't be ashamed to admit it. Hell, I probably spent more time in my youth on Sims 2 then I did on pretty much every other game ever made.

Once, I spent so long on a neighborhood, that I ended up having well over 200 sims living in it.
~Devs need to stop trying please SJW's and radfems and as well as keep their politics in their pocket.
~Social justices politics and political correctness are killing video games as a art form.
~Devs need to stop treating female characters with kid gloves and as well as needing to stop writing them as passive aggressive Mary-Sues in order not to offend and appease radfems and SJW's.
~All games made by SJW's and radfems are fucking terrible garbage.
I see a lot of complaints nowadays about Political Correctness in games, but I've never seen a single example of a game ruined by it. Any examples?

I Think 9gag is the wrong example to use. They may be one of the most cancerous communities ever, but most of the Fallout posts I see are very critical of 4, and some even comparing it to the originals. All the casuals hang out on Reddit and Imgur.

-Skyrim is somewhat boring and repetitive but okay game.
-Russians are better at making Fallout and post-apoc in general.
-Metal Gear Solid is overrated and bullshit but first two metal gears are quite good.
-Blood II is PoS.
-FNV > F3/4 at environmental storytelling.
-STALKER is hardcore survival shoot'n'loot game which nailed the concept. (assuming nothing will surpass it, and no one so far ever did that)
-STALKER is the closest to RPG 1st person shooter so far.
-Deutschland-RPG (yes, it's qualifiable as separate genre) > Morrowind (including Nehrim & Enderal)
-T:ToN won't be good just because PS:T was good.
-Dark/Demon Souls is not RPGs but just Devil May Cry for slowpokes.
-Ciri needs some educational spanking.

Bioshock Infinite- Went way out of its way to pander to SJW's
Uncharted 4- Nothing bad happens to the black female villain because that would be racist
Baldur's Gate Siege of Dragonspear- This one was talked about to death.
Dragon Age Inquisition- Like Infinite, went way out of its way to pander to SJW's. Also, are there like no fucking straight people in that game?
Borderland Series- Two words, Anthony Burch. Also, just like Inquisition are there no fucking straight people on Pandora?
Mass Effect Andromeda- Gonna be. One of Mass Effect dev, Manveer Heir, is a rabid anti-white racist who's Twitter is full racist remarks towards white people. I can already see what the game is gonna be like.
Battleborn- Throughout the development Gearbox kept giving themselves pats on the back because Battleborn had transgender bathrooms and that their game was about "badass women being badass" even though the final product was shit.
Gone Home- Everyone is homophobic for hating this game.
Life is Strange- This one was hyped big time by the gaming press. According to the devs, some of the publishers they went to wanted the main characters gender to be changed to male. If you supported women in games then you had to buy this game even though the game itself turned out to be nothing to brag home about.
Dead or Alive Extreme 3- The game itself is far from politically correct but Play Asia, fearing backlash from the rabid SJW's and radfems here in the west, refused to sell the game in the States and Europe.

Then there of course are the numerous games made in RPG Maker by what I imagine are first year gender studies majors which are hilariously bad. They really give you an idea with how these unhinged SJW's want all video games to be like. I highly recommend watching Harmful Opinions Twitch Streams with "Diverse Games". Its good for a laugh.

I think my main problem with political correctness is that devs are now using it to invalidate any criticism that their games will have. "Don't like a game where there is a black/female/gay protagonist then your racist/sexist/homophobic!". I think because of this attitude video games have stagnated as, like I said before, any criticism is now chalked up to you being a bigot. I really hoped that game devs lose this attitude as constructive criticism is what helps improve both games and the devs.

Bioshlock Infinite, the game that tries to shock you with it's Slavery imagery but none of the character ever say anything worse than "Negro" and it even has characters gleefully declaring to some guy they only know because of the massacre he went on in a Raffle that they are on his side, because "I am a progressive". I mean shit, I am extremely left wing, but that doesn't make me blind to shit writing.

I think my main problem with political correctness is that devs are now using it to invalidate any criticism that their games will have.
One problem with political correctness in games is the fact that the "progressive" characters end up being boring stereotypes that base their personality off of being(a transgender, gay, lesbian, bisexual, ect.) instead of a fleshed out character. They go out of their way to make these characters look like your typical special snowflake and it makes them stand out in such a ridiculous way. Take Amber Scott's transgender character that based their character around being born the wrong sex and the fact that their name came from different syllables from different language(as if that made any sense).

Anthony Burch's writing had that stupid Tiny Tina character that talked like an annoying ghetto black person which is all I ever got from her.

The Borderlands Games are absolute trash.
Bethesda has NEVER made a decent RPG
Metal Gear is the most overrated franchise of all time.
Silent Hill 4 is quite enjoyable.

I really hate the words overrated and underrated to describe games. Whenever someone uses the words overrated to describe a game it seems to be a matter of preference then anything. Look if you don't like a game and/or felt that the game didn't live up to your exceptions then just say so. Don't put other people down and make their taste/likes feel inferior because you didn't like said game. That is why I never call Fallout 4 overrated, because its not, its a terrible, piece of garbage of a RPG which is a universal fact.

Lif is Strang was rally good until it got th last chapter where it seems like they just rewrote it in a rush to accomodate either budget or time restrcitions.
Because seriously
Are you telling me that the Hurrican was caused just because some punk chick didn't die from getting shot in the stomach in a bathroom? That's the big catalyst?

No explanation of why you even got Time powers, and the game even states that you having powers was completely worthless because everything would've solved itself anyway.

Completely squandered all the cult/Corporate destruction theme they had and instead just turned the Photography professor into a cackling straw misogynist serial killer that just wants to take pictures of girls?

Not to mention making all choices until the very last second pointless because either the entire town and all it's inhabitants gets razed tpo the ground, or you just undo all the events of the game....

Just a completely shit ending.

Can't really talk about most of these as I haven't played them. However From what I've heard of Bioshock Infinite, I can see your point. It seems to pretend to be edgy and portraying old fashioned attitudes, yet from what I can gather doesn't deliver.

As for Life is Strange, I don't think you can really blame the game itself for the way the press and its fans treat it. I mean its a perfectly good game by itself(Except for the ending)

From what I have heard Life is Strange was promising but it seemed like the devs ended up suffering from "Bioware Syndrome" and wrote themselves into a hole.
What is funny that a similar situation over the whole gender thing happened to CD Projekt Red when they were making the first Witcher game. One of the first publishers they went to demanded that CDPR make the game not about Geralt but about a female protagonist among other things, which thank God CDPR said no to as they wanted their games to be a continuation of The Witcher novels and comics and as well as respect the source material that they were given. Funny how the gaming media didn't get all riled up over that. Gotta love the double standard.
