I think Fallout 3 is better than Fallout 2

To me, the story revolved around these three cities rather then the GECK or The Enclave. All the minor towns (Gecko, Redding, Broken Hills) in the area were all part of this story arc. It was a fantastic and engaging story of power struggles, moral gray shades and frustration.

The fact that none of these three cities were 'perfect' or 'good' made the plot so interesting and so different from everything else. Vault City was an elitistic xenophobic oligarchy, NCR was a corrupt tolitarian state (my thoughts went to the former Soviet Union or China) and New Reno was... well... New Reno.

As for the size of the cities. I found it plausable and it didn't hurt the feeling of a nuked-out wasteland, especially since its a nuked-out wasteland that has been rebuilding itself for the past 200 years. Not like in FO3 when you still can find skeletons, electricity and leaking steam pipes like if the bombs went off two days ago.

What this guy said.

Fallout 3 has NOTHING as good as that plot.

And I don't think there's anything wrong with the size of the cities in Fallout 2. Jeeesus, people, Fallout 2 happens 80 years after. I don't think it's non post-apocalyptic, just DIFERENT, but still Post-Apocalyptic. To me, both Fallouts had a main theme that Fallout 3 lacked. Fallout had "Survive in the wasteland" theme, while Fallout 2 had more of a "Prosper in the Wasteland" theme. Both were good, consistent themes. And Fallout 3's theme was... uh, eeer, ahem, uur... I dunno, "Act Like a Dumbfuck in the Wasteland."

The point about the world you enter seeming larger than your own quest is an important one. It seemed like Megaton had as many residents as my vault birthday party.

aside from the fact that it felt totally unfinished (and probably was- another big problem with F2 that F3 doesn't have)

Uh F3 doesn't feel unfinished? Are you kidding me?! How can a 4 hours single way mainquest which zero consequences feel finished? After TL I thought "oh now I am in the main plot I guess". Silly me, didn't see the end coming because I thought the game didn't even start.
The huge number of broken scripts ("Hey Silver, You own some guy money. I don't know why I know that, I just left the vault, but you can give it to me anyways") also easily proves that F3 was really unfinished.
Go play F2 with the Restoration Project, than you can see which parts/scripts are unfinished.

Also note: The NCR/VC/Reno Questline gives more choices and consequences than the entire Fallout 3 setting (which has only one choice: [spoiler:1bbd75875e]to die or not to die[/spoiler:1bbd75875e]).

The only place that really felt out of place and uninteresting in F2 was San Francisco. I can't see what's so bad about New Reno? It had the best, most interesting quests in the game....

Ther's been a whole thread about it recently.

In a nutshell: New Reno doesn't fit thematically nor is it plausible.

Yeah, I've read that thread and New Reno is still one of my favourite areas. I dont really understand the arguments about New Reno producing nothing considering it I dont think it's ever been stated in the game that New Reno wasnt supported by agriculture not shown in game. I dont really see much thematically wrong with Reno other than there being fully working casinos which dont make sense in a post apocalyptic world. New Reno is what I'd imagine would become of a large city that partially survived the war, especially Reno.

Hmm... I think I did like Modoc, come to think of it. Arefu is actually pretty derivative of Modoc, really. But I like cannibals more than molemen.

As for the NCR-New Reno-VC storyline, aside from the fact that it felt totally unfinished (and probably was- another big problem with F2 that F3 doesn't have) and involved two cities I didn't want to have anything to do with, there just weren't enough options for playing politics that felt so tantalizingly close. If that quest had been a much bigger time and game investment (ie, larger, with more importance and options) I'd probably drop F3 like a hot rock (since as it is in my head's rankings, the two are pretty close). But in F2 I can't pretend that my character became an Enclave protege and later President of the U.S.A. after his insertion of Eden's modified FEV, so nyah.

Are you serious? I sense something... something I haven't sensed since... *looks at VATS*

If thats what you want then I doubt any game will ever meet your standards. Except perhaps the odd one where you are allowed to become THE bad guy, rather than just A bad guy.

New Reno doesn't fit, but is the biggest town except Vault City and certainly has some interesting stuff to do. After a few modifications, like removing the 1930s style and casino, this could be the most interesting place in FO2. Instead, it's pretty much out of place - I always try to avoid it as long as I can.

Fallout 3 is worse Fallout than Fallout 2.
Prove me wrong!

some fact backup for this..

FO3 ahem.. "main quest" dialogue..

"So, your the president then?"
"yessir, yessir ah am"
"your being rather bad"
"oh shucks"
"could you blow yourself up plz k thx?"
"well why the hell not, world domination was getting so boring"
*boooom*

And that is almost a direct copy word for word how the dialogue in FO3 goes while talking with 'the president'

no. no. no. no. Fallout 3 is NOT better than Fallout 2....

Fallout 3 is only just better than pouring methylated spirit into your own eye's while reciting 'two little boys...' and having your tongue tattooed with 'I ♥ FO3'

fallout 3 its a spetp behind the originals, its not better
Sadly quite a few people that like Fallout 3 say though that even that is a progress of some kind.

I don't even know why such thread exists. What justifies it's being here? The two games cannot even be compared, the gap is so huge and deep between them.

Well all new games are less advanced in terms of gameplay than old ones...new ones only have better graphics & sounds and thats about it...

So why did this happend? why games are dumb and dumber well becouse people are...also consoles and money are problem...

BUT considering FO:BOS and F3 is big steep forward there might be hope...

Fallout 3 definitely is dumbed down from Fallout 1. Then again, the original Fallout was dumbed down from Wasteland, and its only really improved feature were its better graphics.

But the atmosphere and style of Fallout caused many people to ignore the fact that it had less descriptive text, dialogue, etc.

Fallout 2 was distinctly lacking in good style or atmosphere, in my opinion. Fallout 3's managed to scrape some together.

easily?...I'm not sure about that...

The plot and dialogue would have still sucked, but it'd be fairly well matched

I find it a bit odd Ausir did not transmit to us the qualified "If it were turn-based and isometric". It is not, so "Even some veterans like Saint Proverbius prefer Fallout 3 over 2." is not true.

I've always said Fallout 2 was inferior to Fallout 1 and various elders have said so as well.

Not too surprising some of them might dislike Fallout 2 so much they prefer Fallout 3, even if not as a Fallout title.

Personally, I don't think Fallout 3 shares the same setting nor genre as Fallout 1+2, so there's no basis for comparison really.

I'd wager it's better than Oblivion, though.

FALLOUT3 well...

Whats more to say its a lot better than F1 and F2 combined together...

It got briliant graphics it will define standards for many years to come...

Sound and music are made by most skilled musicians its just too good to exist...

Interface is mind blowing only fev buttons are required to play for console players its just amazing plus auto aim for slow kids so they thinked about everyone...

Gameplay its just well AMAZING the dialogue is made to less briliant people would fell good, quests are just well very interesting and require to use at least 1% of brain, combat is just mind blowing vats gives such preaty lights and blood with slow moo...also i can undress all characters...its just perfect...

Thank you i hope you fell same way as im
