J.E. Sawyer on the Legion and post-endgame play

And how is New Vegas plot "Just" liek the one in FO1? they have pretty different focuses on what is the driving force of the plot. All of your complains seem rather vague and when they are not, they sound pretty stupid.

The first half involves getting a McGuffin and putting it in its McGuffin Slot.

Then come the Speech puzzles and the crazy shooting.

Yes. Too bad it looks like a poor version of Fallout 1's plot, though.

That's what you wrote, how is it like the plot of FO1?

In that quote "it" doesn't mean "Fallout New Vegas plot". Maybe a wise defense of your (apparently) beloved New Vegas should start with reading other posts? By the way, I never said New Vegas was a bad game.
My point was, New Vegas and Fallout 1/2 should be two separate franchises.

If anything, FO3 had the most non generic plot if deduced to basic form, because the McGuffin was already in its slot, you just had to jostle it a bit and then turn on a couple other McGuffins to beat the bad guy.

Didn't you link to a New Vegas review you wrote soem time ago where you said it sucked?

How is that related to the point? If your point is, I should call Izual stupid because he thinks New Vegas sucks, you're going to be alone here. I explained my point about franchises a few posts ago, now if that comes to "Hah because New Vegas sucks!", I'd better be going.

Actually, the people of Nipton were portrayed as scum who let the Powder Gangers step all over them.

What the Legion did was justice.
riiiiiiiiight. people do something evil. So lets all do even more evil things to them.

Some might see this as justice. No clue. I am sure it was a "try" to show that there is more "gray" in there and all that stuff. But I think it was a pretty lousy attempt. Because right in the next town the legion contaminated a whole area with radiation ... meh.

See. Thats what I mean. If they would have removed nipton and the other area making it a legion controlled territory/town it would have been much better in showing that the legion is not all about "hurr durr kill the mojave for KAISAR SOZE!"

But that way I always got the feeling that for every single "neutral" thing the Legion did there have been like 10 bad things while it was much more difficult to feel bad for the average NCR citizen/soldier simply because of their high presence and the well written dialogues for most of their characters.

Izual, so those vague complains you wrote before are what you consider "an explanation"?

On the Legion
The Legion aren't even supposed to be "good guys" they are not about making life good for people, they are about making people do somethign productive no matter what with the alternative being death. Most of the towns in their lands are not even ensalved, but rather ruled over with fear. Wich is a pretty horrible thing, but it has worked before.
The things in Nipton and Searchlight are mostly Guerrilla tactics executed to demoralize the NCR with displays of brutality. Vulpes even gives you the mission of telling the NCR exactly what happened there. In the Legion Controlled Primm ending it is even stated that Caesar just ruled over them without crucifying or killign anyone of them.

Still the Legion needed a lot more focus, not "removing things because they need to be less evil" more "Show how their actions bear fruit in relation to what they actually want".

thats what I am saying. The Legion was shown as "evil in your face" faction and I dont like that in a game like Fallout to be honest. I wish they would have made the Legion a more ... inteligent faction here. Not just a slaver army.

A slaver army with spies everywhere; and control over everywhere from Northern Texas to Eastern Nevada.

Fallout should give me the same experience as the 1997-8 Fallout games did. If it can't, then don't call it Fallout.

Let me ask you a question. If NV had been exactly the same game (polygonal graphic included) but with turn based combat and isometric view you would call it a Fallout game?

Hard to say. Tactics has turn-based combat and isometric view, and it isn't a Fallout game to me (and everyone else), it's a spin-off.

That's an extremely narrow definition. You're free to hold to it, but don't expect many people to agree, even on this forum.

Heh, like I wrote on the last page... "I think your "what Fallout should be"-bars are just set unreasonable and unreachable high."

Pretty sure that not even mods like Mutants Rising, which are even using the same engine, will give you the same experience.

Despite a lot of their content being cut short, I like the Legion idea. How they were a combination of slavers, tribals, and raiders all unified under an autocratic leadership. I would assume the region it came from (colorado/utah/phoenix) was much less developed than the NCR, hence there would be a lot more illiteracy and less infrastructure, which made it ripe for Caesar to take over.

Make up your mind.
GTA 1 and GTA 4 are totally different. However one is a poor version of the other.

Fallout should give me the same experience as the 1997-8 Fallout games did. If it can't, then don't call it Fallout.

And just what is that "experience"?

In a RPG, it is all about story. You don't need graphics, you don't need turn based, all you need is quality continuation of a story.

If you constantly need the exact same experience, you will never be satisfied, and if that is how you approach things, well, not only is it anal, but you will always be disappointed.
