That Gun is the same actual firearm given to the Vault Dweller in the Hub for saving Irwin's farm. It ended up in the Mojave after over a century of being passed around and sold following the Vault Dweller founding Arroyo and relieving himself of his adventure gear.

There's a research military facility similar in scope to Norad, maybe a bit bigger, that specialized in computer, biological, and power research (nickname: "Triple Threat"). Some of these were for weapons, others were government contracts for furthering the nations capabilities at home. Think of it as Los Alamos, Argonne and NASA rolled together underground. Would be located in a dense pine mountain range. If I/m honest, the best way to think o fit would likely be Half Life 2 in Fallout.

West Tek was cool, but I felt there wasn't nearly enough. Coming across a hole punched in the desert is one of the best possible setups, this facility however would have went untouched by the war and would only be affected by it's own decay depending on when you come across it. I'm thinking it would be pretty soon after the war as the security would be unbreakable to waste landers. Maybe a small group with security clearance made it out of the lab? Maybe it could be come a formidable contender for jumpstarting civilization while being terrifying and dangerous at the same time? A playing with fire situation. Might be a good name for a mission involving it, "playing with fire".

Will you manage to walk a balance and use it's secrets for good or will you make mistakes and unleash terrors on the wasteland worse than what currently roams it be it man, creature, or biohazard?

Is this not essentially what the Big Empty was?

Probably. I don't actually remember BM having a defined quest. Didn't stand out to me. then again I was 16 so I've probably just forgotten. Either way I found both that and West Tek to be let downs. BM should have taken itself more seriously and West Tek was perfect there just wasn't enough of it. Just a pet idea that I have thought out that could be fun if I was a good modder and could make quests. I have areas and scenarios planned out kinda, but not good enough at making stuff in the engine.

This one is kinda silly and just something for fun, but I like to think that Myron from fo2 doesn't *actually* have sex with all those prostitutes, he just pays them to play D&D and Tragic with him.

Sergeant Dornan escaped the destruction of Navarro and regrouped with some of his troops afterward, eventually making their way to the Navajo Ordnance Depot (known to us as camp Navajo), and started his own enclave spin-off faction where he crusades against raiders, hippies, commies and, eventually, the legion.
By the time of the second battle of Hoover dam Dornan and the Legion are in a stalemate. Dornan has overwhelming superior firepower, but its only him and like five other guys, so they can’t occupy territory or anything.

I hope it was clear to everyone that this post was written very tongue-in-cheek as they say, although I do unironically think the idea would make a fun setting for a Fallout Tactics spin-off game

I played with the idea of Camp Navajo having been fully automated right before the war as the personnel was needed on the front or to restore order in the cities.

It was now this automated training facility, perhaps run by a semi-artificial intelligence, that was to train new troops and army personnel.

The base actually survived the nuclear exchange but the computer, despite knowing that the US government has fallen can't overcome its own programming and continues to wait for new recruits.

The player could either turn the base over to a group of Super Mutants that are looking for a temporary home, or the Desert Rangers that are looking for a new headquarters.

There's a NORAD facility deep under the towering mountains of Newfoundland that survived the War. Enclave or at least government remnants are chilling.

I found some mentioning of radar bases when I looked it up online, do you mean those?

Expanding on Camp Navajo, I have to admit that I was inspired by some elements of the Fallout RPG the team of Black Isle was playing that would be a source of inspiration for Van Buren.

The base would be an excellent experience building area for the player where he or she could enter the training program and improve on various combat and non combat skills.
Based on how well the player performed at certain tasks he or she would be given weapons and other equipment from the base's storage and armory.

Other than the semi-artificial intelligence or true artificial intelligence there would also be various training robots and automated security systems.

Possibly the player could also turn this place into their own camp or base of operations.

I was thinking a command and control center on the order of Cheyenne Mountain. So far as I kjnow there are no extensive bunker systems in Newfoundland, only a few NORAD radar posts including so-called Texas Towers, wich are quite cool and recall the Oil Rig.

But Newfoundland, IMO, could be a good candidate for such a facility. It has the largest and most imposing mountains on the East coast by far. Compare the low-lying forested Appalachians, home to Mt. Weather, Raven Rock, and other facilities. A Newfoundland complex would have the additional advantage of being far away from any other targets, minimizing collateral damage and contamination, and most importantly being right along the flight paths of just about any nuke aimed at the Eastern Seaboard.

So the concept is the US created this massive facility under Newfoundland in the wake of the fall of Canada as part of its early warning system, and as the second head of the continuity of government program.

And your Camp Navajo remidnss me of your Tibbets concept a bit.

That is a really cool find.

If you ever come across more such Cold War era information, please PM it to me.

It rather is, and that was basically the prison from Van Buren which really was inspired by a place called Big MT the people at Black Isle played before developing Van Buren.
Big MT was originally some kind of military training camp full of training robots.

If I have to choose which concept to realize, I would go for the prison though.
I like the idea of a fan made DLC for FNV in which the player has to organize a prison break.

Was it? I know that Tibbets was occasionally referred to in the design docs as Big MT, but I never heard that it was a fossil of an earlier design concept. Could you tell me more?

I don't recall much of it, most of it was from old interview in which Avellone, Sawyer, and the other talked how they played this self made PNP version of Fallout with a system called SIMPLE.

It would inspire a PNP version of Sawyer's Fallout system that had its own wiki.
