Lonesome road worst DLC?

I found the setting very atmospheric.
But there was one thing that again came across as really juvenile - all the buildings scattered around leaning on their sides. Sorry - buildings (tower blocks) don't lean like that. They're treated like toys scattered around with no understanding of structure. Any force strong enough to put a tower block on it's side (or at 45 degrees) would simply destroy it.

 Let's complain about the structural impossibility of Ringworld while we're at it.

It doesn't matter. Seriously, the Fallout universe is full of spectacular things. How is a unrealistic portrayal of buildings for the sake of interesting environment a flaw?

The answer is: it isn't

I loved it apart from the crappy faction-detection mechanic whichgoes purely by Reputation and can't actually detect if I've locked myself out of a particular faction by, eg, KILLING HOUSE; and the lack of consequences for nuking main factions at the end. I would have liked it if whoever you nuked was automatically set to hostile and the NPCs who reset your reputation removed from the game. I assume working with the worst engine in the world and minimal budget due to it being the final expansion is responsible for these problems; if it wasn't for them it would be my favourite dLC easily.

A couple of thoughts:

I figured the laser detonator didn't actually cause a full-on nuclear explosion, but blew up the nukes "safely". Otherwise I can't imagine why they'd have a portable detonator at a nuclear missile base that has to be used at short range. Look at the nuke you detonate at Ashton and the impact zones at the Long 15 and dry Wells; Obsidian know what a proper nuclear explosion is meant to be like.

Much as I don't like the lack of consequences for firing the nukes, I love the areas which were added to make up for it. The environments were suitably nightmarish, and there's some cool loot. The Armor Of The 87th Tribe is nice as heck (just a reskin of Lanius's armour, I know, but still cool) and the Scorched Sierra Power Armor is gorgeous. I was disappointed when I found out they basically just ripped off some modder for it though :/

I don't know how realistic all the slanted buildings stuff is, but it was damned effective at looking unnerving and wrong. It really felt like walking through a place that had suffered a cataclysm, way more so than Fallout 3. Remember this is a settlement built in an advanced alternate future, so they may have had access to building materials which we don't.

Ulysses is possibly my favourite character in all of Fallout.

Oh yeah, I really hated that. I was vilified by Legion and liked by NCR. But I wasn't actually siding with NCR however, and had every intention to help the people of the wastes first-hand and I was not afraid to have to kill some NCR troops. Yet I was pretty much forced to roleplay an NCR dog in the dlc, and was rewarded a duster with the ncr flag on the back at the end. Dafuq?

just wear the faction armor, it will prevent you from aiding NCR.
but it can't help you prevent from aiding Vegas though.

Sounds like more reasons to have had LR wrap up the game, not simple serve as some kind of separate experience prior to beating it. I mean, to some degree, him basing his dialog on your reputation makes sense. What he knows of you is both the few times your paths crossed and what he hears about you. But if you FOUGHT FOR INDEPENDENCE at the Dam, there would be no confusion whose side you were on when pressed by Ulysses.

For independence, you can aid Vegas itself.
but nothing big different whether you choose to aid House or kill him.
In Ulysses' opinion there aren't any different between House or aid vegas without House. for both choice, you aid corrupted leftover of old Armerica. so aiding House or Yesman will get same duster with America's flag.

No, there is a differnece between independent Vegas and House support.

With House, he thinks that you are supporting the worst values of the pre war world and think House is a weak person that relies too much in technology and money over real strenght.

With Independent he thinks you are indecsive and that your seemingly Vanity project is doomed.

Ah yes there are some difference but reward is same.
if you choose nothing(actually your reputation with NCR, Legion and Vegas is not good) he doesn't mention about yesman. maybe I'm wrong but choosing either House or Yesman means you aid Vegas and get American flag duster.

I got American flag duster even I choose yesman that's weird....
when I got neutral reputation and choose Yesman, he blame me to not choose any flag blah blah...

I want to replay NV to recheck about that but I played NV too much and if I start NV, I will ruin another semester again...

The DLC has a very weird way of determining who you sided with, so sometimes you get House's responses when you are with the NCR or independent.

http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/44042//?

Use that mod, it makes the responses match better with your choice of faction.

THe Independent Vegas gives you different speeches from Ulysses and the 21 Spade duster.

Fallout wiki that way! "points in a random direction"

Well, personally I loved Lonesome Road and I think it was the best DLC. The first time I played it I didn't appreciate the western-like style of New Vegas, so seeing the Divide's nuclear horror filled some void. I kind of missed the post apocalyptic theme in the game.
But yes, there were a few shortcomings, to say the least. Let me put them in a list:

1. Tunnelers - annoying and overpowered, I always die at least once on that elevator.
2. Scripted Deathclaw encounters - while I learned to sneak my way and take them down, it was hard in the beginning to take them by surprise. Not to mention NV Deathclaws are a real deal, especially the irradiated ones.
3. Warheads - the very idea was kind of silly. Oh well, still a better nuclear story than Fallout 3. Also, they were conveniant when there were Marked Men around.
4. Ulysses talking style - oh my, riddles and metaphors! One hour in the game his talking gets boring and annoying. Bear Bull Old World Bear Bull Courier.
5. Ulysses as a character - I liked him, but I still find him incomplete as a character. Basically, he makes his attitude towards the Courier as a revenge, but claims it's not a revenge after all. He seems like he hates you, nope, denies that too. Bashes you for siding with any side, yet believes America will rise from the ashes of the post-post nuclear world, after he burns California and Four States to the crisp. I have a theory that Ulysses is so disillusioned and disappointed with the world that he retreated to his own imaginary world of old world America, which reflection he found in that community in the Divide before the missiles launched, and that losing this community pushed him even deeper into the, at least partial, insanity.

Still, Lonesome Road is my favourite DLC. Despite its flaws, I enjoyed almost every moment of it.

It's not quite revenge. He doesn't hate the Courier for destroying the divide, he hates you for not being aware of it. His plan in Lonesome Road is to make you a part of his apocalypse, and to make sure that this time you know the part you played.

One other thing I hated - no - HATED about LR is invincible ED-E. Did anyone else feel like this amounted to a violation of their gaming rights?!?!?!?!

I chose hardcore because i thought it was LAME that your companions should be invincible. And when i say lame i mean really, truly juvenile, lame, weak, immersion-breaking, and just about any other word describing awful game design (i suppose i should be glad Obsidian had the foresight to put in the HC options at all)

I then had it FORCED on me in LR! Does anyone know if there's any reasonable justification for this, BTW??

Kinda thought Courier 6 was a friend or some good guy the Courier knew/met in his travels. In the end, Ulysses's voice was pissing me off all the time. I wanted to shoot his head off with an AMR for being such an ass and whining non-stop through ED-E. I know, some people like him but me, I just kill him without question. To me his intention wasn't clear. Felt like he's lost in his own thoughts. A man with no self confidence, knows he can't kill the Courier and sets a booby trap so the Courier would simply get swarmed by Marked Men. He's just a god damn weakling. Being a complicated character with loose ends and holes doesn't make you interesting with an agenda that most NV players don't get. In my next playthrough, (got Fallout 1 & 2 from gog but no tactics because it's like "Nah.. Non-ccannonn".
Anyway, the DLC is fine. Apart from that stupid laser detanator. I don't know, the guy who thought it'd be cool to 'safely' detonate a nuke-warhead from a distance must have been higher than high.. It'd make a lot of sence if you could walk up to them and use your scientific skill to safely disarm them and removing key components to make it useless if found by someone. A good nuke is a dead nuke so why not Megaton' it? IMO Ulysses pissed in his pants the moment he saw the Couriers name and walked away. It's just me :D

Because he is a part of the story in LR?... Maybe ;)

Because it's better than guarding ED-E.
Do you really want doing both surviving and guarding?

I like ED-E because it's cute.
