Megamod 2.4 Technical Issues and Suggestions

Usually, a crash or black screen (with ghost images) is the result of missing proto files (items, specifically).

Reinstall the mod or, recopy the files from proto/critters and proto/items. Try setting the files inside the proto/critters and proto/items folder to read only... not just the folders themselves.

Edit: Alright, I've finished putting together the files for the 2.41 patch. It would not be much of a patch if not for the work of Nirran and Timeslip, and I thank them both. Nirran has it on his site. It should be available here at NMA fairly soon.

It comes in at about 6 mb. It is not a standalone. It is to be applied after the last full repack (2.35) and the other smaller patch (2.4). The contents should be unzipped directly into the main Fallout 2 directory (where the .exe is). If you get the files from Nirran's site, then you need only the full repack and the latest patch, since he has combined them.

I think the next time I update it I will make it a full repack.
 
Just tried again with a fresh install, and redownloaded files from Atomic Gamer.

2.35.2 -> 2.41 from Nirran, set all files in Proto folder to read-only, and I still get the black screen while entering the Temple.. weird..

2.4/2.41 doesn't seem to work for whatever reason, but the base 2.35.2 version works perfectly fine..
 
OK, just installed megamod 2.41 (downloaded from nirran site). It seems that I can't recruit Klint, when we finish conversation in Arroyo, game just black out and I have to exit to Windows. I reinstalled again and it's same case... If I don't try to recruit Klint (or refuse him), everything works fine.

@Nirran: I installed your random encounter script. It works fine in maps where are underground sewers. However, in maps with caves, when I enter cave I cannot move. I am not able to scroll screen to right and explore cave, I can only get out. I guess that I should set up something, but what? :D (I am not using PaintJob mod)

@MSlavko82: I do not get this error with Klint. I recruit him and my game continues as it should.

@djuice: Are you setting all the proto files to read only manually, or as you extracted them from winrar? Please look over the installation notes again regarding winrar. If you are still getting the error with 2.4+, let me know.
 
OK, thanks. That's probably my mistake. And it is probably not the only one, because I just entered toxic caves only to find them crowded with golden geckos - about twenty of them on first level :confused: It means new reinstall 8-)
 
I think you might have one of Nirran's mods installed to make things a little more challenging, and not just the random encounter mod. However, that shouldn't affect Klint, necessarily.

Also, I think I know the reason why you can't scroll: scroll blockers. You are set to enter on the wrong side of the scroll blockers, so you can only leave. If you had the high res patch, you would not get this error.

that many geckos is part of my repeatable quests mod,and the crash bug is caused by a corrupt map(klint) i fixed that and uploaded just now,tho klints party options are greyed(can still change them if you click custom),i donno whats causing that

I think I fixed, I deleted Patch000.dat file in the main directory, as my Fallout 2 CD install came with 1.02 preinstalled.

Anyway, I thought that lot of Geckos can be part of your mod, but I didn't install it - I checked, there are only rats in Farell's garden :) I probably made some big mess, I will do clean reinstall and they will probably be gone 8-)
 
any mod yoiu want :P

repeatable quests is set for killer type players,your choice,if you installed that mod farrels garden should have nothing in it in the mapper,critters spawn through scripting

make sure you install my mods last(doesnt matter what order of mods)

I dont know it is only my problem, but with klint in my party a cant load. Ive check with him and with out him.

And there is something wrong with the armor. Ive got agility 10. So i should have armor 10, but when im saving or waiting with 10 action points it growing to 20 and after that didnt drop.

Make sure the Proto's are read only. Fixed it for me about 20 Minutes ago.

I think that you accidentally mixed some old Megamod files with some new files - some thing happened to me long ago, and I had same problem with action points. When I checked there was mix of old and new megamod files, after reinstall, everything was fine.


Anyway, I reinstalled MM and everything works like charm, including Klint :clap: I also installed bunch of Nirran's scripts and they are working too, except I still can't use Random Encounters, but that's not important...

@Nirran: OK, now I am risking to become boring :) But I have to ask: what grappler perk do? I am not sure I understand in-game explanation?
 
grapler perk prevents the knockback from large damage,critters wont move from the hex they are on when hit in combat

edit : will fix the caves in random encounters today

edit : the reason you cant enter the cave is blocking hexs(used for view of the map in game) i will move them and upload the new maps,i didnt knotice because i use high res patch and turn of blocking hexes

fixed, tested(with high res uninstalled) and uploaded,let me know if you run into any problems with any of my mods,with latest mm (2.41) patch,paint job is already in Megamod

edit : note that if high res patch is installed,ignore map edges are OFF and the folder for map edges is megamod 2.35,that some maps(does not only apply to random encounters) will prevent you from exploring all of the map,this is because the folder with map edge data is not updated for the newest version of Megamod

grappler stops the throwback in combat when a critter is hit,know how they sometimes move a couple hexes?this perk stops that from happening(and i didn't make the perk,Timeslip did)
