NFL 2010

Did I contradict myself? I am large, I contain multitudes. :smug:

There are many reason's for optimism in New England, but being #1 in Week 8 in some douchebag's power rankings is not really one of them.
Mankins is back, playing for a contract. All the a-holes are shipped off. DEF is gelling nicely - shut AP down on 4th and G from the 1. Lots of young, budding talent. Sick class of rookie starters - McCourty, Spikes, Cunningham, Hernandez, Gronkowski, Mesko. 2nd year guys solidifying in Chung, Vollmer, Edelman, Brace, Pryor, Tate. Mayo and Meriweather still coming along. I've never seen a defense rebuilt from top to bottom so quickly w/o free agency and w/o relinquishing the div. crown. And they have a couple dozen high draft picks next year too. Crumpler's blocking is making Green-Ellis and Woodhead look like Curtis Martin and Dave Megget 2.0.

The more time Belichik gets with this defense, the shittier the weather gets, the bigger games get...well, it's going to be fun to watch. Can't wait for Indy in Foxboro (blizzard please), and unleashing the little fucker Woodhead against Rex in Jets II.

Somebody better step up and take that #1 seed from them before it's too late...

Stick a fork in the Hawks, baby!
Ah, just Hasselbeck. That pass rush is going to tear him a new one. Perry Fewell doing a great job with that group. How did Buffalo let this guy skate when he was already the interim coach?

So now we hear he's sitting out with a concussion.

Charlie Whitehurst is no doubt grateful to have his first career game vs the NYG.

Pretty complete one at that. Really good gameplan from Mangini, ballsy, creative, smart, good execution. Patriots outcoached and outplayed in every facet...looking like the green peas they are...Gronkowski a disastrous day, drops, Brady throwing short, WRs going offsides???, Mayo and Spikes looking glacial, Meriweather watching a different game (poetic justice him getting lit up on McCoy's TD scamper), and Gostkowski injured. No hope to beat Steelers next week if you play the bottom of the AFC South like that. I do love me some Steelers/Patriots this time of year.

Only positive was Mankins getting the start and getting back up to speed.

I don't care that the Vikings won today, fire Chilly anyway!
"You know, rarely do mid-season coaching changes result in any kind of substantial improvement." How many times did we have to hear that last night? I think they are missing the point, at some point (and I don't think the Vikes are there yet) you have to write the year off and start building for next year already - of course the real reason is that the Cowher, Billick, Gruden guys won't come in mid-season, that's why they won't make a change for Wade Phillips IMO.

If Jason Garrett were the eventual successor, I think he would've taken the reigns years ago.

Well, this would give them the chance to see what Garrett could do as head coach. Just getting Wade out of the building may be a good thing right now. There's no reason why an interim coach won't be replaced in the offseason.

Bucs lost, but it was a close and hard-fought loss. Essentially they were 2 yards away from a win - that's tough, but it's good to come that close against a really good team rather than getting blown out. Still 5-3 and somehow actually in a playoff race.

About time. It makes me sad. The Cowboys saved the Hawks from being the most embarrassingly blown out team of the weekend.

I don't get why they didn't just make Garrett the coach 2 years ago like everyone thought. We've been told that he's the phenom, been groomed, the hand-picked heir apparent. And the fulfillment of the old axiom about the backup QB being the most popular guy in town.
What if (try not to laugh) he turns the ship around and wins 5 or 6 games? How do you depose the golden boy then?

I don't want to dwell on Dallas, but I think what everyone looses sight of is Jerry Jones' priorities.
1. Make money
2. Be Famous
3. Win football games.
Even with their record, they are still one of the most lucrative franchises in all sports, so the public face he puts on is one to assuage the ire of fans, methinks.

I wouldn't know, I got stuck with a really shitty schedule of local games - Pats, Giants, SNF blowout. Even the Colt's loss couldn't cheer me up.

Fucking G-men taking care of business early. Scary
I know it's mid-point, but how's a(nother) NYG/GB NFCC game sound? In the Giants' new digs.

That was a pretty dominating performance by Big Blue, Seahawks got off only 30-something plays.
G-men are gonna tee off on the Cowboys next week.

I wonder if the Vikes could actually get Billick. He was our offensive coordinator for a few years.

My dream is obviously Dungy, but it isn't going to happen, despite his Minnesota roots.

I think we live near each other (I'm just south of Hartford) and damn if those games weren't awful. Every game this weekend that we had was a blowout and annoyed me that at the very least I couldn't get the Jets game.

Fortunately, we have the NFL Redzone which is probably the most awesome channel on Sunday, and we also had the Colts-Eagles game which was a GREAT game to watch.

I don't get NFL RedZone. It really doesn't work for me, I generally want to follow one game and get caught up in that. All the jumping around NFL RedZone does is just really annoying to me.

Billick? Easy. Dude's desperate for a coaching job, but no one's giving him one. Must be a reason for that though.

You can view the move in that way too. This season is lost, even Jerry Jones has to know that. But by firing Phillips he's showing the outside world that he's trying to do something. PR move.

I knew there was more I liked about you than just the Luther Vandross av. Yeah, I live in West Hartford, down around hard-hittin' New Britain Ave. Where you at?
Comcast doesn't give me RZ or NFLN for free, and I don't really want the whole sports pkg. I pay too much and watch TV too little as it is.
I'd think Fairfield county at the very least would be Jets territory, maybe more. Practically suburban NY. Don't see a lot of Sox/Pats fans down that way.

The old NFL primetime wrap up show used to be a nice recap of the day, but that's kind of slipped. I think RZ is the new thing though, ESPN has been promoting their College version, something like 12 straight hours every Sat.

I'm curious, do you guys get the insufferable pre-game shows in the Netherlands?
When I was overseas we only got SkySports and AsianESPN, and the scant NFL shows were horribly localized.

We get the same pregame stuff you guys get. NFL Network on NFL Game Pass, and on ESPN America it's either ESPN pre-game show or the NBC pregame show for Sunday Night Football.

Haha yea, I recently moved in with some friends in Avon so we're about a spits distance apart.

We get the full cable package for free due to some weird living arrangements with our landlords so it gives us a little bit extra football.

As a whole, the Red Zone stuff isn't great, but it works out well for the end of the night "every touchdown of the day" show, and it can be nice for the 4:15 games when there aren't as many on, so it comes close to watching the full games (especially when the alternative is a Giants game with backups).

Yup, I work down there and it's a mean green state.

Personally, I could watch Dallas get beaten senseless at Lambeau over and over. My favorite part was the straight-T formation with 3 fullbacks. When the game was over I was ready for another four quarters. 8-)

Packers cut Al Harris, which is sad but hardly surprising, and cut DE Mike Montgomery in order to activate RB James Starks -- which is very surprising to everyone since he hasn't played football in two years. I'm interested to see whether he has a glimmer of all the potential the hype might lead you to believe.

In hindsight, the most bone-headed offseason move by any team has to be Denver trading Peyton Hillis to the Browns for Brady Quinn -- and then drafting Tebow. Too funny.

I was wondering if Shannon Sharpe made any more sense in Dutch.

I'd like to see a game in the new stadium. Maybe even playoff game in NYC, that would be cool.

Hillis is the real deal, made Mayo and Spikes look horrendous, beat them in every way possible.
Breaking news, Colt McCoy just scored again on the Pats.

The other side of that equation, we still have yet to enjoy that schadenfreude that will results from Tebow's eventual NFL career.

I've watched a Superbowl on Sky Sports once. And another on one of the German channels, forgot which one. Had the sound off for the German one's pregame stuff, but the Sky Sports stuff was ok, they got some football player in to discuss it, forgot who.

The Browns O-line is the real deal. Don't forget we were talking like this about what's-his-face last year too. Anyone can run behind that line. Hillis is good, yeah, but the line is better.

Also this is what I do to your buuulllshiit trick plays

Only caught the last 2 minutes last night, but nice finish. The Ravens really have taken penalty whining to levels I've never seen. You know unfair shit happens that you can't control but need to overcome. It's like a self fulfilling prophecy, they get a shitty call and all throw up their hands "see, we got screwed again!" instead of getting their shit together.

Also, is Joe Theisman really the best they could find? I'd rather listen to Madden and Pat Sumeral sleeping through a game than listen to that A-hole and Millen splitting hairs about things. There's no way I could sit through a whole game of that. Especially after years of him doing games on ESPN.
