NFL - The Thread, '08.

You mean legitimate contesters for the Superbowl? Yes, I'd argue that's limited to the Giants, Panthers, Titans and Steelers for obv favourites (but it never works that way, as we all well know).

If their defense holds on to their current form, the 'Bwoys are also legit, as are the Colts if they keep it together on D (but I don't see that happening)

Favre was in the MVP discussion for a bit. Sure, it's a lot of hooey and reputation, but the Jets with him are better than the Jets without him.

I have no problem with him being the 3rd AFC QB, but for one thing: how the hell do you select Favre over Philip Rivers? Rivers, with no O-line, a hobbled RB, no defense, has better stats and is more important to his team than Favre.

I suspect Favre will make an excuse and back out. He's done that before, and I'm sure he knows he doesn't deserve it this year over Rivers.

I'm glad to see Nick Collins got in, even though it's debatable whether or not he's good enough to deserve it. He's had a great year. Woodson absolutely deserved to make it this year.

Ronnie Brown over Steve Slaton is a screw-up though.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to the NFC West when the Vikings move to LA in a couple of years. They might swap the Rams to the NFC North in an exchange.

woodson DIDN'T make it?

jesus fuck. that's just ridiculous. he's been literally CARRYING that fucking defense. LITERALLY FUCKING CARRYING.

Heh. No, he did make it. Sorry if I somehow suggested he didn't make it.

Collins and Woodson are Pro-Bowl starters. Both deserving, but Woodson especially. I was surprised actually, because in general he hasn't gotten the credit he deserves this year.

He should be in the discussion for Defensive Player of the Year. He shouldn't win, but he should be on the list.

Retirement?

That's not my bone of contention, it's that he seemingly got voted in for things he did 6 years ago. Favre making the PB for his work in a Jets uni is like when John Wayne got the Academy Award for True Grit. It's more of a lifetime achievement thing.

Anyway, weather report here for Sunday is high of 25 with snow.
What a perfect week to host Arizona, who has seemingly taken the rest of the regular season off since they clinched the west.

I've got a glimmer of hope that the Seahawks can beat the Jets, who have played like ass lately, and haven't shown up for west coast games.

*amongst shadows* Yeeeessss... Yeessssss, I shall take your positive energy to heart as I conduct my ceremonial dance that involves beheading a small animal and bathing in its blood. This will please the football gods and the Seahawks shall be victorious!

In all seriousness, it ought to be neat. Holgrems last game, and it will be dumping snow!

Edit: err last home game that is.

Good thing I have that altar to Dave Krieg in my basement.
*prostrates self*
Need some good mojo to beat the Jets, they've gotten some gifts from the football gods lately. Proving the point it's better to be lucky than good.
'Hawks have been playing better than their record indicates, and that's a tough stadium to come into. I betcha Holmgren has Favre's number.
All I want for Christmas is a Jets meltdown.

My allegiances are all confused, for the Pats to make the playoffs they need to win out, and Cowboys need to beat Baltimore. They can win the division if Jets lose too. So I'm rooting for Dallas and Seattle this weekend
Not that the Pats are going anywhere in the playoffs (unless they play Denver 1st round). But it's a moral victory at this point.

Hah, I heard Farve on the NFL network asking if it was going to be snowing in Seattle. He seemed quite excited when they confirmed that it most likely would be. Problem is, people might not be able to get to the stadium! Allot of areas in the Puget sound lowlands are simply shut down due to roads being covered in black ice. The hill I live on was closed off due to it being too steep for sanding trucks and morons kept going down it and smashing into a pile of cars at the bottom.

I think this is the right time of the season to point out that Detroit hasn't won a game in Green Bay since 1991.

I can't wait to see what happens!

What if I said, the packers are going to lose and the world will end? I don't know about you but I'd believe me.

I guess people are just worried that it would be humiliating to lose to the Lions under these circumstances. That's the only thing riding on this game - except that Green Bay gets a better draft position if they lose. Anyway, people have been saying "This is the game Detroit's finally going to win!" for over a month, and they always lose. They're just really that bad. 0-16 bad.

I wonder how cheap it would be to get tickets for the Kansas City at Cincy game this weekend? You could sit in the cold for three hours and watch two awful teams compete for absolutely nothing.

Even if Brady is healthy they need to franchise Cassel just so they can trade him - he's gotta be worth a 1st rounder.

Anyway, no parades here, party's over brutha.

There is no greater fraud in the NFL than Brett Favre.
9 INTs and 1 TD in his last 5 games?
What a clown.
Pro-Bowler?
He's barely the 3rd best QB in his division.
At least he'll take Mangini down with him.

Yeah, I love Favre, but Ted Thompson clearly made the right decision "moving on" with Rodgers and trading Favre. Brett was amazing last year, but you could see he was nearing the end in the NFC Championship game.

Wait, so the Pats didn't get in? I haven't been watching the coverage today so I don't know, but that's surprising. I guess it's TEN, PIT, MIA, and DEN/SD, plus BAL and IND, right? That's actually a pretty badass bracket.

Yeah Pats won 11 games and no playoffs. Oh well, thems the rules. Pats had a good season considering. And 11 wins is misleading considering they played AFC and NFC west, Pats never beat a good team all year. It's not like they were going to be making a deep playoff run anyway.
Kind of sucks to lose on a tie breaker that would give you the #3 seed, but instead get nothing. Especially with SD about to win their division with a .500 record.

It wouldn't feel right making the playoffs because of a Jet win anyway. I felt really dirty rooting for them. I kind of liked watching Pennington stick it to them. They who will have no QB next year. Smart move guys.
The best part will be listening to NYC radio tomorrow, people will be calling for Mangini's head on a silver platter. Rat bastard. He's unemployable too after he ratted out his mentor. Who would ever hire a snitch like that to be on their staff?

I noticed that they had a pretty soft schedule throughout the course of the year, especially compared to the Steelers and the Ravens. Those AFC North teams had it brutal this season.

I can't say I've ever really paid much attention to the Jets before, but their moves definitely give me the impression of a shaky organization.

Man all of Sundays games were amazing for the most part. Close couple point games that all seemed to hinge on a field goal. While I was falling asleep for most of the Seattle / Arizona game, I was impressed on the good that the Seahawks did. Seneca really deserves to be a #1 QB. He wants to stick with Seattle for a few more years but he will always be 2nd man absent of Hasselbeck stepping down.

either way though, I love watching Seneca play, you never know what crazy athletic move he will come out with next.
