NFL - week 13 seems like as good a week as any

Yeah, Chambers is inferior...

Yes, Chambers-Gates, especially since Chambers was shoved in some way in the season, is inferior to Burress-Shockey.

Were he any other QB, he would be praised for leading his team to the playoffs.

Really? He's on a team with two pro-bowl defensive ends, a pro-bowl linebacker, good safeties, a good offensive line, last year a pro-bowl and perennial hall-of-fame runner and now a couple of good replacements, a pro bowl receiver, a pro bowl TE...

Everything about the team is Pro Bowl...

...Except Manning.

I don't see Jason Campbell being ripped for 12 TDs and 11 picks. I don't see Kyle Boller being ripped for 8 TD's and 9 picks. And Jon Kitna...15 TDs and 12 picks, and, until last week, he was hailed by all to be the team MVP and the one who would triumphantly lead the reborn Lions to the playoffs. And how about Vince Young? Would you believe 7 TDs and SIXTEEN picks? All I ever hear about him is "He's developing".

- Washington's situation isn't nearly as good as NYG's.

- Uh...what? Kyle Boller has been chewed on and spit out for years now.

- Jon Kitna is playing behind the worst O-line in the league and yet has a 65.9 completion percentage (you do realise TDs and picks aren't the only stats in the NFL, right?) Besides, Kitna is a leader who has been pulling the team. Eli? No.

- Vince Young is absolute shit, but he's still floating on his hype. Nobody is saying he has good vision or throws well, though, he's being praised for his "intangibles", not his QB values.

Looks like you're just not paying much attention, to me.

So before thoroughly ripping Eli for not living up to his brother's greatness, look at what else is out there.

I did, and I just said the Texans backup QB would outplay Eli in his situation. I stand by that.

You're flipping things upside down. He's not getting extra flak for being a Manning, the only reason he's still playing is because he's a Manning. Anyone else would've been let go last season.

Leinart is shit so far, but it's too early to do a definite judgement call on him.

Cover-boy Vince Young has da mad skillz, you take that slander back!

Every time I see Leinhart play it just screams "happy feet".

Atleast he will never coach in the NFL again. Hopefully he will be anathema to Arkansas like he was to Atlanta because, lets face it they both deserve it.

In other news:

Patriots Proud Of Defeating Whoever That Last Team Was

FOXBOROUGH, MA—Patriots quarterback Tom Brady diplomatically emphasized that defeating whoever it was they had just played gave him and his teammates a great sense of accomplishment during his post-game press conference Sunday. "It's always very satisfying to get out there and get a win against…against those guys," Brady said, adding that it was a mistake to take those other guys for granted as they were capable of making a few plays. "They definitely had some sort of game plan, and they were running around fairly fast out there. We overcame a lot to triumph over, uh, you know, them." According to Brady, the Patriots still need to correct a number of mistakes during the week's practices, execute better, and prepare for that one team they have to defeat next

Reminds me of my old high school football team... One year, we went to our states playoffs for the first time in 20 years (used to go every year). I happened to be at a coffee shop that allot of folk from the opposing school would hang out at.
"Yeah, we beat those guys, who ever they were... they wore green and yellow or something."
... Never mind "those guys" are responsible for naming the Seattle Seahawks after their high school team.

Oh what wonders await the Patriots when they are actually dealt a crushing defeat (...I hope, dealt a crushing defeat).

I seriously hope that will not happen this year. I am just thrilled when the forces of evil deal the good guys a serious blow every now and then. Do what's right Emperor Belichick and Tom Vader keep on winning, make those goddamn ewoks pay uhh I mean Jets.

I know. What the hell?!?

That's been the only real surprise today.

Though I do wish I could have seen the Browns/Bengals game. It looked interesting.

I know. Well, the Steelers loss was an "upset", but quite frankly I think that's because the Steelers are slightly overrated. They've lost to terrible teams while Jax has fought the Colts close twice. The Jaguars are better at the Steelers hardnosed way of playing than the Steelers are.

Whoa, the Cowboys lost? No wonder the Sports Department's been so quiet today.

@BN: I'm with you, Steelers losing wasn't THAT much of a surprise, since they've been hit and miss all season. Especially Big Ben, badly injured as he is. I love the Steelers, but this year...yikes.

@TwinkieGorilla: The Seahawks losing wasn't a surprise to me, really. The Panthers are just a sleeper team. Not too many people are paying attention to them but they're actually pretty good this season. They just get overshadowed by others in their conference.

Well, they did collapse with the loss of their starting QB. With Jake in, they're a contender. But somehow no one else can figure out how to utilize Steve Smith, and they suck. Defense is decent, but nothing more.

So yeah, Seattle losing, when you look at last week, is a shock. They're pretty up and down this season.

Dallas' loss was a shock, but it again shows the Eagles pass defense that almost shocked Brady is really, really good. And Westbrook is a smart, great back.

"I talked to the guys about the opportunities today and the opportunities they created and we just weren't able to capitalize on them," Mangini said. "(We were) in the red zone four times and couldn't get the points we needed to get."

The game was briefly halted late in the fourth quarter after multiple snow and ice balls were thrown onto the field...It was the first time Brady was held without a touchdown pass since that loss in Miami last season.

Well at least the Pats D held, seriously one lousy offensive game by Brady and people are already heralding the Patriots playoff defeat.

dude. even the papers down here (in the triangle) are calling the Panthers "pathetic"...which, this season they ARE. nobody expected them to win. (i'm not from N.C., just here for a couple years...so i can talk crap. i could care less about 'em!)

After that game... I'm fairly disappointed in the Hawks, what, the, hell!?

On another note, way-to-go Miami!
