No Mission Briefings or NPC dialog in Bunkers ABCD or E

Corka

First time out of the vault
This is an odd bug that always kicks in at the same part. As soon as I get to bunker beta, no one will talk to me ever again. If i hang around before going there, visit brahman wood go back to bunker alpha... I can talk. But the moment I set foot in that place, I will never be able to talk again.

In particular, I cannot get any missions because the good ol General has turned mute as well.

Any ideas?

I'm using Win2k and have already patched up to 1.27, still no dice.

I heard that there is patch 1.5 (a moded patch ).

try it out I heared its really good.
I didnt managed to download it though, the place that NMA are hosting always full and you need to wait 30 min to get the download, but no matter how long I waited it did nothing.

get the name of the file and make google search on it.

1.5 patch is for Fallout 2 not Fallout Tactics.

Corka have you tried reinstalling the game?

Yes, reinstalling the game seems to be the only thing you can do since you say you've already patched the game. Your save-games won't be deleted. Also (if you haven't done that already) read the read-me-file for the game (patched version 1.27) and see if your problem isn't listed with a solution or something.

You could also be the proud owner of one of those coorupted cd's the read-me-file mentions. There seems to be a rather big file you can DL to fix that.

A last tip: did you do a full/complete install? If so, maybe you should re-install the game with the settings on medium or small. That way, a lot of data will have to be extracted from the cd during gameplay (perhaps even the dialogue-files, I dunno). That may solve the problem as well. Once you leave Bunker Beta you can still do a complete re-install to improve the framerate (which stays rather poor throughout the game).

Heh.

Gone through and tried all that : no dice . Reinstall, going with different install options... doesn't work. Always the exact same problem: If I go to bunker beta I will never be talked to again.

It isn't a bug listed in the patch help, and I've done a search around for it but it seems like I'm the only one getting it. Lucky me :)

I can't return the CD because it was second hand :( A trade and exchange - I jumped at the purchase because FOT hasn't been for sale here for *years* and importing gets expensive with shipping and currency exchange (I'm from New Zealand).

So looks like I'll just have to find different ways to beat those first 3 missions with style :)

Is that you just can't talk to anyone in Bunker Beta? Or does this affect Bunker Alpha as well?

Because you might just have a corrupted speech file for bunker beta. Check to see if you have the file loc-mis_B.BOS, you might have to manually install it.

uhhm.

You are completly right. I *am* missing that file. I've got a loc-mis a, c, d, and e, but no b. Strange thing is it seems to be missing from the CD as well? And I had a hunt around and found a few other file inconsistencies:

in my core\campaign\missions\core directory I have:
bunker01.mis
bunker03.mis
bunker05.mis
mission01.mis
mission02.mis
mission03.mis
mission04.mis
misison06.mis
mission09.mis
mission11.mis
mission23.mis
mission24.mis

And all the files in between seem to be missing from the gamecd. Has this person I purchased the CD from done some editing on the CD and wiped some stuff off it or something? I wouldn't have thought the game would have installed without them !

No that's fine, your mission files are in the .BOS folders that begin mis-core_ in the main core directory. The missions that you can see unpacked are the patch versions installed by the patch. The game reads the files in the directories first before it looks in the .BOS files so the patch just installed the newer versions there without replacing the others.

The locale-mis_B file you're after should be on CD2 in the core folder there.

HAHAHA silly me  man I have to stop posting after 3:00  in the morning

heh

Oops my bad. Okay the file was on CD2 where you said but I'm blind ;) I copied it over manually, but doesn't seem to be working still. Something I've noticed though is that the file is only a little over a meg compared to the other files which are about 20.

This afternoon I got a friend of mine to install the game onto his machine to see if it would work and get past beta bunker, but nope he had the exact same problem.

Hum, well I don't know if this is part of the regular bad batch of CDs but it seems that theres at least one file on this which is a little screwy :P but how would I go about getting a copy of that file? Should I hunt around frantically for someplace that has the game and gives refunds and copy the file? *G* I think I'm not so dastardly as to give them back my bung CDs though.

Well thanks you lot, at least you've cornered down what the problem is with my game. [/code]

Yeah loc-mis_B.BOS should be nearly 25 meg. Though most of that is taken up by the MP3 files which you don't technically need, open up winzip and drop the .BOS file into the winzip window and check to see if you've got the file Bunker 02.txt which is what you really need. If it's there extract it to the core folder with the option use folder names ticked, this should create a directory structure core\locale\missions\bunker02. If it's not there or doesn't create those directories when extracted then let me know.

Mmm

When I try to open it, it says that its a damaged and can't be opened, so thats a no go.
So all I need is a small text file? Don't suppose you could give me a copy? that'd be great.
Oh one thing, would that include the briefings by Mr General ? When I speak to him the pipboy screen comes up as usual, but his briefings are empty and i can't do the missions.

Prob with Fallout Tactics - 2nd bunker not loading correctly

Legit version of Fallout Tactics, full install.
- Patched with 1.25
- Patched with 1.27

After completing the first 3 missions, its time to head to the second bunker. However, upon arrival there is a problem. I dont think the bunker has loaded correctly, i cant talk to any of the NPC's (Barnaky etc).. where there should be briefings for the next two missions there is only a blank space.. if i try to go to one of the two levels i cant talk to anyone (the elder etc) and i have no objectives :(

I have tried running around, nothing seems to fix this.

I have reinstalled, as well as reinstalled the patches.

Any ideas? Help much appreciated.

Umm, can't help you, never played tactics. However wrong forum, you posted in Fallout RPG gameplay & Tech discussion. You should have posted this in the Fallout Tactics Help and Tech forum.

Maybe you should have checked the other threads in this forum first. I did, and hey, what do you say: some 7 or 8 threads ago, someone asked exactly the same question...

Check this:

Apparently you need a file that is damaged on your cd. Since I don't know much about such things (game files) and such, I hope someone else can help you more (requiem?).

Its a big file and I don't have it with me right now. I suggest doing a little troubleshooting and unarchive the files within that file to the correct directory on your hard drive. All you may need is a particular text file. I'll have to check on that and get back to you later.
