Guys! Some really great news for Biden.

Republicans are most likely going to aquit Trump.

This means, since Republicans confirmed that,

1. A sitting president can not be convicted.

2. And convicting a former president is unconstitutional.

Biden is now free to reign for the next 4 years like a King. Isn't that awesome?
 
Trump wasn't even in office. The whole trial was a waste of time. Had Trump been president however, I think things would have been different.

If Biden fucks up big, and he is president, then an impeachment trial would make sense. If Biden wasn't in office, what would be the point?

The impeachment was about his actions on January the 6. It is possible to impeach officials even after they resigned or left office - there is presedence for it and the constitution makes no mention that the Senate can not impeach someone just because they are not president anymore. The point of the impeachment in the senate is not to convict someone in juridical sense. It's about holding the president accountable. A succesfull impeachment for example means the former president has no access to benefits anymore and can not run again for a public office.

You do understand that this decision makes the whole process of impeachment completely irrelevant, right? A sitting president could pretty much do what ever he/she wants now days before they leave the office and it doesn't matter because the Senate can not hold them accountable.

Besides. Why would it have been different? The last impeachment the argument was "Convicting a sitting president isn't possible". Now the defence is "Someone who's not president can't be convinceted". And people see not the issue with that logic?

What I really do not understand is how readily some completely negate any checks and ballances or accountability ... I mean sure talking about what ever if Trump is guilty or not is one thing. But saying you can not impeach someone because they left office? What if Trump would pull out a gun and shoot someone in the head while kicking a dog around 5 min. before he stops being the president. No trial? No Impeachment? I mean he did it as president. Now he's not anymore. You can not put someone up for trial for what he did as president. The Republicans made that crystical clear.

If anything, deal with the America Rescue Act FIRST, then try to impeach but their timing is stupid.

Congress has been 50/50 so far on their record of getting stuff done. They make COVID relief a priority until this Trump distraction.

The ideal situation would be no tax cuts for corps and no special treatments for the illegal and the lazy.

There are those groups who try to intergrate and then the groups who just HAVE to play the race game to elevate THEIR group over others. While I get it is ruthless it is never the less un productive.
