I have, and it was totally obvious he was entirely genuine in his response.

The idea that he couldn't say more when, at the time, he wasn't working for Bethesda, Obsidian, or anyone related to them, and had no plans at the time to leave his job, and was thus totally able to say anything he wanted with zero consequence, is literally a fantasy. Game devs shit talk each other all the time, if Tim really hated it, he veyr easily could have said so with no negative result coming from it.

Its this sort of conspiracy mongering that makes NMA so infamous.

You can clearly tell he could have said more but held his tongue for whatever reason. You can't tell me he didn't WANT to say more. I have no doubt he could have spoken at length about the topic but it would have been uncalled for. Game developers can talk shit to each other but you don't want to make enemies in an industry like that. You don't get ahead in the industry by pissing off people for no good reason.

I didn't say he hated it either. I am saying he might have mentioned how simplified the RPG mechanics were if he didn't want to anger a million fanboys. I don't think it is some conspiracy either. It's common sense.

Beyond that Tim Cain is not the GOD of Fallout. The series has evolved past his original ideas. It doesn't matter what he likes or does not like. He can call Fallout 3 the best Fallout game ever created and I will still say he is full of shit.

NMA is infamous because fanboys don't like being told that their favorite game is so shallow a 7 year old can beat it with no problems.

Tim Cain isn't going to start bashing Bethesda in public. Video game developpers are often quite well behaved towards each other I found moreso than in many entertainment industries where passive-aggressive shit-slinging is more common. Even those who fans are in a bitter rivalry (say Bioware's vs. CD Projekt's) are usually polite towards each other.

That said, it doesn't mean I think Tim Cain, deep down, actually hates the game and has a dartboard with Todd Howard's face on it. I mean, we're not in his head so there's no real way to know exactly how he feels. But there's really no stretch in believing he liked FO3 overall. Developpers can sometimes be less... enthusiastic than fans.

And anyway, it doesn't change much. Tim Cain's opinions are his own. I will form my own thoughts regardless of what he says, and I still won't think FO3 and FO4 are great games even if he comes out and says he worships the ground Bethesda walks on and grovels at their feet praising their genius.

Good sir, your feeble attempts at disguising this conspiracy with reasonable arguments and personal opinions are preposterous! Good Godd, the nerve of these people!

Nobody implied or suggested that there was a conspiracy going on. Also outside of indie gaming (where most are self employed anyways), shit-slinging really isn't that common in the gaming industry. Even most of the shit-slinging in indie gaming has generally centered around a few people *cough* Phil Fish *cough*

Shit slinging is not common in any professional industry (its an industry you foo! they know each other, they share market space, you dont just burn bridges like your badass:P), but of course you gotta be a professional to figure that one out. A troglodyte would definitely struggle at the concept:P

Also again with the shit-posting for the website you willingly joined..i find your lack of decorum...disappointing:P

Ps. And cause i have the time..let me just break down what he's doing:P Obviously, he's antagonizing a whole group of varied people from all over the world with all kinds of ideas, bunching them up together and then presenting his "truth" on them, casting them all as "outsiders", alienating them and thus marginalizing their importance and most importantly the importance of their argument. This is, of course, clear, cut demagoguery and an appeal to a perceived majority (that may or may not be true) that has already decided what is true outside the bounds of the conversation. There is no rationale behind it, there are no arguments, it is only meant to deride, dehumanize, simplify and marginalize all opposing views by presenting them as one, "dysfunctional", identity. Its the kind of shit churches used to do (only instead of the "Internet" they appealed to "God"):P It is not even intended for the people its presented against..its just there to provide a picture for everyone else who might stumble here:P

The loading screens in Fallout 4 however state that T-51 was the pinnacle of pre-war PA.

Well, isn't this a pickle? Now we have to decide which game is more canon, Fallout Shelter or Fallout 4.

My position is this: They wanted a new "signature armour" for the game cover, and it had to be better than the T-51 while also looking like their "original" design, the T-45. But it also had to be in the prologue scenes as they were heavily featured in the pre-release footage, so it couldn't just be a BoS-improvement of the T-45 (which would have made a lot of sense).
But there was probably a lack of communication, so the loading screen featuring the T-51 was overlooked.

Not the first for that, in Skyrim the loading screen still say that Bretons have 50% resistance to magic when in reality it was nerfed to 25.

"You know how other companies make their games sh****? We tried not doing that" - isn't this what Todd Howard said in the lead-up to release?

I am pretty sure they didn't even try not to make a bad game.

Nice fallacious argument. The point is exactly that, that most of those points are present in minimal or extremely superficial ways. If the mere presence of those elements is enough to label FO4 as faithful of the original vision statement then inFamous 2 is a Fallout game as well.

I thought I explained that part. Is it that strange that someone could have simply fun with something, while still eventually disagreeing with the direction, or not following the idea? People are most of the time very ambivalent creatures.

Just because Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsay admits to eat sometimes at Mc Donalds doesn't have to mean they would consider to work for them, or to suddenly change their whole menue to fast food, or they believe Mc Donalds is the top cuisine every master chef has to look up to. Even if they told you that the Big Mac was their favourite from all the Burgers Mc Donalds offers, no one would ever get the serious idea Mc Donalds to be their inspiration.

To repeat my self, I will not argue about Tim's intentions or what ever if he really likes Fallout 3 (and maybe Fallout 4) or not, as it would be just sepculation. It is absolutely possible that he likes what Bethesda did. But it could be possible that he was simply diplomatic. If you look at the Diablo 2 developer Breivik and his statements about Diablo 3, that's not much of a surprise. Simply to avoid any serious complications. But to argue about that is in my opinion useless, because honestly, I doubt anyone here is close enough to Tim to know his real thoughts. So I will give you that one.

I will instead concentrate on his works instead. And I am curious what you think about those. You can not denny that Bethesdas approach is VERY different to Tim's. And no matter how much he seems to like Beths approach, none of his games ever used any Beth ideas. None. And as Toront said already, who gives a flying fuck if Tim would come out tomorrow saying that Fallout 3 is a true Sequel and better than Fallout 1? Indiana Jones 4 was utter garbage and it was made by Steven Spielberg and George Lukas, of which both worked on the previous movies.

Again, the history of Fallout 1 is there, for everyone to read. And it's pretty clear what Fallout 1 was about. Fallout 4 is about giving the player better Plasma rifles.

Bingo! Yup he did. You know, when i heard him say that it really rubbed me the wrong way...how much of a juvenile, narcissistic prick do you have to be to come on stage and open up with that:P

First of all Toddy, if you're gonna name and shame...well you gotta name:P what kind of blanket-shit statement was that:p

Also for Vuk above i have it on good authority that Tim hates it;p Oh and Gordon woudn't be caught in a MacDonalds even if his life depended on it:P

I feel that we can say, to a certainty, that this is exactly how it happened. I firmly believe that each and every game by Beth will feature "newer and better" things with little to no regard for lore.
