About what?

Fallout approached this differently, with the guide being appended by the Overseer for the current status quo, but even so, "Science!" as a catch-all explanation still works fairly well for the Fallout setting.

It has its limits, and the guide maybe stretches it, but not to disbelief (in my opinion).

I think that it stretches it a bit too far. Maybe that booklet got lost with those water chips on the way to vault 13, but it just seems odd that the scientists knew all these facts but still needed to do the experiments with the vaults. They already knew that humans would turn into ghouls it seems so why even have the vault with the malfunctioning door.

I got the feeling from the first two games that the world was an unfamiliar place to the protagonist; this just feels like you start out knowing way too much.

When I compare the survival guide with the originals' manuals I feel that almost all mystery and discovery has been taken away.

Fallout 1 left you with this wonderful ignorance about the surface, making the encounters and visits to location only that much more special.

I still remember how I first learned about Power Armor, it wasn't in some manual, I found out by visiting this place called "The Brotherhood of Steel."

I don't think the Brahmin are hostile. They weren't like that in the previous games, and when the player shot at them using the Fatman they were eating the grass or what ever it was, and not attacking the PC.

i was referring to the Mutation Guide... if you were able to make sense of two implicitly connected sentences... it says that Brahming dont like being disturbed when rehashing their meal, further referring to their horns.

If you attacked a Brahmin in FO or FO2, it started to attack you as well. I'm sure that with 'disturb' they mean 'attack'. What's your point?

exactly that attitude... disturb == attack, ... like... you would never react to someone except hes attacking you? you wouldnt be disturbed if i started jumping up and down in front of you?

if the only means of interaction and reaction you know are attack or not attack... thats a bit poor.

btw...you could push over brahmins and they did not attack...
i mean, if someone turned me over, id be pretty disturbed...

First people argue that there isn't enough things from the Original.

Now people argue that since there is one thing from the original, it is out of place there too?

Yes, don't you hate it when people apply logic rather than just following one simple pre-set line?

But please, continue in the view that the attitude towards the originals supersedes logic. Nothing like the normal slobber-troupe for that.

Look at it this way: the sex cards in the Witcher are in keeping with the sexist attitude of the original books and hence they're fine for the game. That doesn't mean they're not stupid.

Why bitch back and forth about the Tv name though when a bigger deal is afoot.

Like the fact people seem to have more clothes on the east coast.

Where them bald headed guys in yellow pajamas!

Fighting over the TV names.....wow....Why fucking care what it is called. Next time picture "IMAGE SCOPE 2000" over the name plate.

Is there not a deal made about the fact TV's give off radiation anyway?

lets see somebody read this out of context.

Bitch? For Frith's sake, people, someone asked why it makes no sense and I answered it, nobody is bitching about anything, get over it. The only ones making a big deal out of it are you guys and your nagging of "wow you guys whine a lot". Stop whining about that.

That said, there's no limit on posts in this forum so why put a moratorium on what's worth discussing?

Perhaps they feel obligated to read everything?

Frith I hope not. I sure as heck don't read every post here. That'd be insane.

I do....well in the topics I care about. I read really fast so thats why. I can see some slower readers think it would be insane to do such a thing.

Anyway......I like seeing people argue over real thing....things that matter.

Like if Megaton is in the crater of a Bomb that never went off...Why is that crater so fucking BIG???!!!!

Well I currently read about 90% of the news posts and comments, but that's mostly just to have something to do (and my meager attempt to keep up with what everything that's going on). I'm sure NMA has a rich history but I wouldn't want to read it all. It'd be like.. attempting to read an entire Wikipedia.. and trying to keep up with all the updates.

I believe this is one of the few places where you can find a plethora of people saying, "It's not worth arguing about X subject". I can see why the admins here would get sick of it. :P

Though they might find that line of thinking reasonable if someone were to start complaining that a brahmin's udders aren't in the precise location they should be.

Then again, I think mantis armies are a stupid idea.. so.. ARE the brahmin's udders in the right place? :P (not that I would actually care unless they put them in a very noticeable wrong place, like on their heads, in which case someone would say, "Why does it f--in' matter that they're on the brahmin's head? It's funny! It's a games!")

I thought we already discussed that and someone said it was trivial and stupid.

But, okay, why is the crater so fucking BIG???!!! Is it because it's in the crater of one that did explode? Is it because it was originally a smaller hole but has eroded into a bigger hole (somehow without rain or anything)? Is it because the Bethesda folks were just too stupid and lazy and caught up in making a stand-in for explosive barrels and BFGs to realize that doesn't work (because, hey, who cares about any details of the story or setting, right)? Discuss.

Well I wrote how I like that people fought over that in a other topic.

Radiation King isn't a good fight...Comes off silly. Name of a TV. On a Web site and intro movie.....Yawn. But Debating Med-X was a good one!

HURAY DEBATES! well good ones anyway....

They just watch too much Dragonball Z and thought that it used real physics :P. I think that every error in setting and environment that has been discussed has been called trivial, stupid, and/or nitpicking. I think it's especially interesting that it's been done so by the people who claim that setting is the only thing that matters in a sequel.

It's good to discuss and debate anything and everything as assumptions are what lead to errors. If discussed correctly, one should come to the correct conclusions. Radiation King is a stupid name for a TV manufacturer but Bernard Bumner pointed out that there were companies with similar names in the mid 19th century. That said, what many of the people claiming these discussions are stupid and/or trivial fail to realize is that just because it's being discussed doesn't mean that it's of equal importance as other topics. For example, the TV brand is very minor and quite obviously isn't as important as, say, the names of usable items, how the BoS is portrayed, or how balanced VATS is. This should be a given simply because elements have internal value and obviously a name on something minor which has no purpose (like a TV) has a much lower value than the name of a usable item which has a lower value than major setting and/or gameplay elements.

[joke]Are the vault suits made by Vault Tec or Nuclear Jumpsuits Inc.? Where's the name tag? I want to see. It's VERY important. Whether I buy the game or not depends on this, as it could possibly be a small mound of stupid adding to Mt. Idiot. [/joke]

Radiation King? Okay, it's kinda silly, but I like it. Plus it's a homage to the original Fallout's TV in the first intro movie.

Med-X? It's silly, but doesn't really bother me. A lot of the names and conveniences (like the BoS and Super Mutants in the game) aren't things that bother me all that much.

Fallout: BoS didn't really bother me either. I knew the game would suck, based on the knowledge it was using the BG: Dark Alliance game engine, which was a game I had rented so I knew about the gameplay style. I'm sure there are people who really enjoy this style of game. For me, it's a type of game I might play through once and never touch again. Years later I purchased it for about $8, new, shipping and all that, and it was okay for the price. I wanted to know the story and all that and it was a somewhat interesting... umm.. game.

Now, with Fallout 3, Bethesda is kinda getting a 2nd chance from me. I lost interest in the company after Oblivion (no expansion packs or DC's for me). I'm willing to give them another chance with Fallout 3, but after that.. the only chances they'll be getting then, from me, will cost about $10 and be found in bargain bins. I just don't think the company will make it unless they improve their overall RPG mechanics and gameplay... interaction? Not sure if that's the right word, but what I mean is objects that involve more interactivity. Like the interactivity in Jagged Alliance 2 where you can have clips instead of just bullets. Having little details like individual clips with individual bullets, all of which you could pick up and store and manipulate, really make a difference to me.. Probably just me though, as games like Ultima Underworld and Jagged Alliance didn't get copied very much.
