Sequels that are at least debatbly better than their predecessors? (All genres and mediums)

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and subsequently, War for the Planet of the Apes.

I haven't watched any of the old Planet of the Apes movies, so I can't comment on what Rise brought to the series. But it's rare to see how a movie like Dawn managed to be better than Rise in nearly every aspect, AND War doing better than Dawn in turn. The ending to War was great, too. So bittersweet, left me wanting for more but is satisfied and okay if it's the end.

Zenoguy doesn't like Fury Road because of the "Fricken Females" and "SJWs".

Spiderman 2. It was the only legitimately good Sam Raimy Spiderman movie.

Gungrave Overdose is a more refined than Gungrave even if it lost the Cell shaded style, it still delivered on stylish action and with 3 playable characters instead of one it really added a lot of replayability.

Pokeymans Black2 White2. I hate the original Black and White, felt pretty barren and it was trying too hard to have a "deep" story for a Pokemon game but it failed at being entertaining with most of the bosses of the evil team being unfought and the characterization of N being pretty simplistic. The sequel games did away with the pretension and actually delivered a more fun experience, there was more to do and it didn't stop you every 20 minutes to tell you how everybody has opinions and how the characters feel neutral to them.

If your Spider-Man movie doesn't feature a pro wrestler, it's not a good Spider-Man movie. :smug: Joke aside, I gotta say it's nice that they finally decided to make another good Spider-Man film.

I guess I agree on B&W having an overly preachy theme that it casts away in the final act, but I'd say it's definitely one of the best Pokémon games due to it's hefty changes to the pacing and meta of Pokémon games.

Which one? Are they rebooting it a fourth time?

The changes to the meta came from B2W2, before it it was kind of barren. The only way to get Hidden abilities was from a browser game and the main game was super linear even for a Pokemon game, like the map had Zero hidden areas or places to explore, Victory Road was also a Joke, mostly a Bicycle path with Ants. B2W2 fixed all that.

It's not, but whatever, you can like it. Don't go ape on me :smug:.

Does Mad Max even have continuity? From the first to the second there is a complete setting change.

Always a pleasant suprise to find people who don't like Black and White like me. Seriously, i played it once and haven't touched it since.

I used to hate Gen 5 because the main BW campaign was so boring, I hated the designs as a result and I feared I was becoming a retarded Gewunner. Come B2W2 and I felt much warmer towards the new Pokemon. Accelgor and Conkledurr became mainstays on my teams and I always try to fit them in main story parties if the game allows for it, The Oni trio was boring with all sharing the same design but B2W2 gave them new formes that all looked cool and distinctive and I ended up loving Tornadus the most, so I sighed in relief because I realized I was still able to enjoy a new gen, and still am.

I stand corrected. I thought most of the changes were the first B&W. Nvm, it’s much shittier now. Can’t say I didn’t enjoy it as a Pokémon game, though. It mostly pales in comparison to other sequels like R/S and S/M.

Since Pokémon is of the talk right now, I gotta mention the remakes too. I don’t really consider them in the same league as the original, but mostly see how well they are as improvements on the generation iterations that they stand with. It’s obvious that a Pokémon remake is going to be an improvement (gameplay-wise) compared to its original version. FR/LG were trash, just there for the sake of letting people complete the Pokédex. HG/SS were not only my favorite remake, but my favorite Pokémon game in general. Interacting with your Pokémon while strolling around was a simplistic and rather great addition to the game’s rp elements. It’s also hard not to improve upon the terrible pacing of D/P. I obviously never played B/W2. OR/AS were good, but didn’t really improve much from X/Y beyond having a much better game world to explore.

Mad Max doesn't really have a proper continuity, it's all rather loose. Things change according to events (like Max' jacket losing a sleeve in the first movie and acquiring huge stitches in the second), but the focus isn't really on them being sequels.
Fury Road was fine. The role of Mad Max was pretty diminished, but it was a good movie. Road Warrior remains the best of the movies, though.

Huh. Who would have thought? Half in the back likes Blade Runner 2049 and it turns out that it's not doing that great on the box office. Maybe the movie really is good? We have to wait and see.

I think that Alice: Through the Looking Glass (2016) is better than Alice in Wonderland (2010), mainly for one important reason. Alice in Wonderland (2010) made a severe mistake of not having enough screentime with Alice to justify it enough to be actually Alice's adventure in Wonderland. In fact, it feels like the movie tried to focus too much on Mad Hatter. For this sole reason alone, I think Through the Looking Glass improved greatly upon its predecessor by finally making Alice the main focus throughout the movie, even going as far as making the Hatter dying and bed-ridden. If TtLG is just like its predecessor, we would have scenes showing the Hatter's progress in dying and the others trying their best to keep Hatter awake.

Also, now that I've watched Mad Max original trilogy, I don't see how Fury Road has horrible script, let alone miscast. The development hell it went through for nearly 20 years is something unfortunate to ever happen to a piece of work. Progress halted by a war, and the halt continued by their main cast getting into trouble.... it's unfortunate. But at the very least it wasn't like Fallout franchise of getting it shifted from one hand into another. The reboot to make Fury Road possible also doesn't seem so harmless. The fatal mistake Fury Road made was making Furiosa it's main focus, so in a way I guess it made the same mistake as Alice in Wonderland (2010), and also the age's inconsistency. I've read up on why Max barely say anything, and it seems like it's not only because he's going feral, but also because he can't remember his own voice, having not spoken for so long and only ever spoken with voices in his head. In a way, I think this plot point could've been explored more to help making Max the main focus of Fury Road, with him occasionally arguing with the voices in his head on what to do when he encounter Furiosa and the Five Wives, much akin to Krieg the Psycho from Borderlands 2.

Anyway, seeing how the author got plans to make 2 more movies, I guess we all have to wait for what he has in store to address all the disrepancy and inconsistency. Maybe even make Tom Hardy finally looks MUCH older, now that it's shown to be possible to make an actor looks very old like they did Hugh Jackman for Logan (2017).

Max was neer the focus of the Mad Max movies. In all of them the secpmdary characters were more the focus with Max being an observer until things got out of hand at the end. In the second movie he is just bait and the other characters are the more explored and developed ones.

Yeah, but one thing I forgot to mention is how they didn't give Max the chance to hold the wheel of War Rig during the final chase sequence. Hell, they didn't even give him any chance to ride anything at all there! Even in Beyond Thunderdome, he gets to ride something at the final chase sequence. Him riding something for the final moments of the movies is important, because that's exactly what he's really good at.

Well, to add my two cents.

Persona 5 > Persona 4 > Persona 3.

1 and 2, I haven't played so I can't comment on that. Persona 4 improved AI, better story and mechanics. Persona 5 took what flaws 4 had and improved upon them.

Fallout NV is a best out of worst scenario. It is good, maybe better than 2, but worse than 1 as far as I am aware. The aiming sucks, the animations and movement are awful and during close fight I always used vats to hit somebody with a gun. Melee worked well, though. It is a good entry in Fallout franchise, but it suffered from disgusting steaming pile of shit company.

Personally I would go for something like Van Buren went with active pause and a cooldown. At least Van Buren fan game is being worked on.

Some other good sequels:
-NFS Most Wanted - 2005, one of the best of the series.
-Breath of Fire series up to 3. 4 is debatable, 5 not really BOF game, 6 is an abomination.

Annnnnd that's it. I know a lot of bad sequels: Prototype 2, Shitout 3/4, Current NFS games, Saints Row 3/4, Dota 2, Oblivion and Skyrim, Dead Island riptide.

What's wrong with saints row 3? It actually gave saints row an identity beyond "gta clone where off the wall shit occasionally happens."

It's not a bad game per say, but I can't say I enjoyed the wacky stuff that much. It is the same problem with Fallout 2. That said, it is quite good, just way over the top. Definitely better than 4, though.
