Tbf Neil is pretty missable. There's like 5 different ways up to the summit of Black Mountain, and only one of them cause you to meet him. Honestly I usually go the route through Moe's pet cage in order to get the BOS holotape for the power armor quest early on.
 
I suppose it's for low level players who just wandered out of Goodsprings and headed down that road.

I always prefer to walk right up the road, I assumed as proud battle cattle you'd have stormed the gates as well.
 
Nah, you guys are pussies. I cleared it out myself, with my hunting rifle and leather armour.

Okay fuck it, maybe I had some mini-nukes, maybe I had power armour but it doesn't matter.
 
If you have Veronica in your party and you're not on PC you can tell her "Not now" when she wants to start her personal quest.

Telling her to go back to Hidden Valley alone will send her off and you can grab a free companion that isn't ED-E or Rex. Then speak to Veronica again and tell her to go to HV herself and you have another free companion slot.

Hmm... never heard of that one. Sounds interesting.
 
It'll make you crash a ton if you have all of the human companions but it's genuinely fun despite them walking all in a awkward single file line behind the player.

It is useful for The Battle of Hoover Dam as well. I always have all available companions with me(except Rex on Survival Mode. He's basically a Suicide Bomber running towards a military checkpoint with no explosives.)

Keep in mind if you finish Veronica's quest or start it you will not be able to use the glitch. I recommend finishing all DLC's and then finishing Veronica's quest.

You will also need to make your first companion who you recruited after telling Veronica to leave to go if you wish to enter a DLC area(minus Lonesome Road, you cannot take any companions there.)
