More so, note how Poland and other nations were refused because their culture was too different, or something. They were considered "Eastern", while Greece was "Western". That is just backwards Enlightenment thinking to me. Greece was always Eastern, from the Byzantine Empire onwards, and was under Turkish rule longer than Poland was under communist rule. But it's oddly enough just that communism v. non-communism line that determined the face of the EU-15.

Also, it's not your fault, but you got Turkicized something pretty damn bad in the few centuries you were held by the Turks.

As for the backwards thing, Greek philosophy has often struck me as Orthodox to the extreme, and stood out as a sore thumb in the far more liberal conglomerate that was the EU-15.
