The Guns and Ammo Thread

Just for you Willy!

Nice! Reminds me of the .223 pistol description in Fallout. I bet that thing crits like a motherfucker.

I'll bet that thing would break your wrist! 7.62x54r kicks like a mule.

It's a much more powerful round than the .223

7.62x54r vs .223

edited to update:

Went to a gunshow in Atlanta today, it was a fairly big show - maybe 300 tables?

I picked up this really cool vintage 5 pistol range box.

Nifty, huh?

Thanks for the info on the bullpup rifles, SuAside. I'm not sure what to think based on declaration of a "bad" trigger with, for example, the FS2000. What makes it bad? Is it not possible to alter the trigger?

It seems like there aren't any good options for a reasonably priced bullpup rifle/carbine at the moment.

i have seen that Nagant "pistol" before.

It would be a huge waste of time to try and get one legally. IIRC, since there are no bare nagant receivers that were not made as "rifles", that thing legally is a short barrelled rifle... enter NFA and Tax.
If you were to make a receiver from scratch on a CNC, then you could have one as a pistol. I dont think they really went that way.

IIRC, that pistol is a replica of a common pistol from pre 1917 russian bank robber days (and during the revolutionary fighting)

Dat classy range box.
Nice find.

The Obrez is a classic, but as DammitBoy says, likely to seriously fuck your wrist is not shot properly.

Bullpups are the red headed stepchildren of the assault rifle family. :)

As for the trigger... If you're used to a good a crisp AR15 or Sig 551 trigger, then it's long & gritty. It does clean up a bit with time, but it'll still be far from match grade. I'm unsure if there's any ways to fix is, as the main problem is the linkage.

But you should really just try it yourself. It's not something you'd use for benchrest, but for a run & gun for fun, it's good enough.

That's the next item on my gun buying agenda. I plan on buying an LMT AR-10 in .308 with a 16" barrel and a sop-mod stock.

They run about $2500.00+ which is pretty damn pricey. I've decided to sell off about 10 firearms in the John Wayne Arsenal of Freedom to cover the cost.

Then my next planned acquisition will be a Beretta CX4 in .45 caliber.

Except for unexpected random gunshow purchases, that will pretty much complete my collection.

That CX4 looks right up my alley, never saw it when I was looking around at guns oddly. I'd probly get it in .40 though.

Back in town for a couple days. Decided to pick up something small for my birthday:

Sig-1911-22a.jpg

Currently in the never-ending waiting game for a dedicated 9mm AR shorty and an Osprey .45 can.

Also mulling between an SR-25 and an LWRC REPR, neither of which I need, both of which I want.

I could give you a line about how the piston and side-charging upper spit less gas in my face while suppressed, or how it is much lighter weight and therefore easier to run around with.

However, the truth is that I am way to cheap to compete with .308, so I am not running around with it any time soon. I happen to think it simply looks cooler, particularly in OD with the spiral fluting. Would match up very nicely with Leupy's new MK4 in OD.

I have shot the LMT MWS a couple of times. Shoots like a dream. The extra weight means very little recoil. It is truly an awesome gun. However, I rarely change barrel lengths or calibers on my MRP, so I think the feature would just be wasted on me. If I wanted to go strictly for precision in an AR10 style rifle, I'd skip all of them and buy a GAP or an OBR.

As to the SR-25, I have just always wanted one for the cool factor. I saw a few come and go through my shop, but I could never afford one. I was invited to several Knights events and a couple of tours through Mr. Knight's personal collections, which bred in me a deep appreciation for Knights, despite a relatively hefty premium. Now that I have a couple extra bucks in my pocket at the end of the year, I can legitimately entertain the fantasy.

Funny. Your Sig Sauer 1911-22 picture looks a thousand times better than the official pics on the website.

Have you been able to compare it with a GSG 1911 .22LR? Those are getting pretty popular here lately. Very cheap & semi-decent. I'm very suspicious towards GSG products.

As for a 7.62x51/308? Pfffft, I'd just get a SCAR Mk17S & slap in a better aftermarket trigger.

Cheap white cardboard and two stops of over-exposure go a long way in product photography. I threw it on top of a stack of IDPA targets in my garage. I appreciate the compliment, though.

I haven't played with the GSG 1911. However, I have owned a Ciener based, Kimber branded .22 1911. It was their first generation, and I was not impressed. It was too light, and the mags used a proprietary floor plate that precluded the use of a magwell. This iteration of the concept is much improved. It is as heavy as a conventional 1911, with the magazine and frame being weighted. It does require an allen wrench to take down, which I find tedious, but it is otherwise well-put together. If the GSG is of a similar design, I'd say go for it.

I've reached for the Scar 17 a couple of times, and then always put it back. Not that they aren't very nice rifles, but they lean a good bit more in the direction of front-line combat then hanging out in the back and calling shots. Which is not what I want to do with a .308, or I would run a FAL, a 91, a Scout M1a, or a shorty AR10.

I've had good luck with my GSG MP5 .22 clone - except it does not play well with the aftermarket high capacity magazines.

Everything else about it passes the fit, finish, quality, smell test.

Note: The rifle in this picture is one i found on the web. I will get a picture of the one im using soon!

Technically it is my Girlfriends rifle, because im not legally allowed to own a weapon (because of my age), but I use it more than her anyways. Although my Dad owns a couple of shotguns (all double barrel) so im not completely unexperienced (my first shot was with granddads though)

It is a .22 singe shot Präzisions-Karabiner made by Simson & Co (thats what the barrel says at least)

Edit: English is not my native language (spelling problems)

Got a H&K 91 rifle.... not sure how to characterize it.

Its a rewelded H&K receiver not a third party one or PTR.

It looks like a saw cut which means that it was probably a police seizure that was chopped and then rewelded (NOT a G3 receiver)

It has crappy wood furniture which made it look like a CETME... which is why nobody gave it a second look.

The maker marks on the receiver have been over stamped with "R".

On the up/down side it looks just like the "assault rifle" from FO3.
