The Guns and Ammo Thread

Motherf---

You did not just buy a SITES Spectre M4...
Holy shit, that's awesome.

I've been trying to track one down for years, but I've kinda stopped looking because they passed retarded magazine laws now (semi auto carbines can now only have 30 round mags, so you have to cap them). Kinda ruins the Spectre or PPsh.

Anyhow, how is the semi-auto trigger? IIRC the full auto variant has a DAO trigger, so I was always worried about the semi-auto sucking balls.

Post more pics! Bigger res too!

lol - too funny

I don't have it yet, it's in route from the seller to my FFL here. It will probably show up just in time for christmas.

It has the double action to single action trigger, so you're probably right - it will suck in that regard.

This one has two 30 round mags and a 50 round mag - so if you found one, you could use the lower capacity mags without issue.

I'm looking at another auction for two more mags - a 30 rounder and a 50 rounder - the guy wants $350 for the pair.

(edit to add)

Just got back from the latest gun show, which beat all three of the last shows for attendance. Sold all the guns I planned to sell. Here's the final tally;

1. Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 magnum 7.5" barrel ss - $625 (paid $500) sold for $600

2. Stoeger Condor 12ga o/u shotgun - $350 (paid $250) sold for $325

3. Remington #4 rolling block .22 rifle circa 1894 - $425 (paid $200) sold for $375

4. Para-Ordnance P14-45 .45 auto with 2 magazines - $700 (paid $700) sold for $700

5. Ruger 10/22 rbi international .22 rifle ss with scope & case - $425 (paid $300) sold for $425

6. Springfield Armory M6 Scout .22 hornet / .410ga ss - $625 (paid $250) sold for $600

7. Ruger Blackhawk .30 carbine 7.5" barrel single action blued $500 (paid $400) sold for $450

8. M.I.L.S. Thunder Five 45 long colt / 410 pistol $550 (paid $450) sold for $500

For anybody not doing the math, that's a profit of $1025.00 over what I paid for them and I got to own and shoot them and enjoy them for as long as I had them.

What other hobby let's you do that?

Anyone have any suggestions on where to buy stanag magazines? I want to stock up before the new AWB.

Well, except for the "shooting" part.

(With the possible exception of the furry porn. But I'm not here to judge.)

Brownells still has some Pmags in stock.

Your best bet for finding USGI mags is probably going to be a gun show, but they won't be cheap.

I found some great deals on some hi-cap mags at the gun show this last weekend. I thought prices would be through the roof after that horrible shooting and Obama's speech about taking meaningful action.

One guy had 30 round mags for $10.00 and those got snatched up quick. I found four for $15.00 and I also bought a used 100 round Beta C-Mag for $150.00

Won't be an AWB any time soon, guys. The republicans still hold too many seats. They can block it.

And you teased me about having too many mags <smile>.

I think I will buy some more... Stang M16 mags are 6-$9 each if you buy a few.

I may also buy a couple of the korean beta mags (I think Korean is code for made in china).

Beta mags were really expensive during the ban.
I saw one advert for them that had the korean ones at $60 each if you bought 100 of them.

The gun stores are crazy with folks panicking to buy guns, ammo, and magazines before the Obama AWB comes into play. It's frikken nuts.

I went in my fav store to pick up a few boxes of .410 shotgun shells for a christmas present and it was packed with 30-40 customers four deep at the counter trying to buy AR-15's.

Dumbasses - now is a little too late to be planning for what's coming.

Went to the FFL that had received my Spectre today, but I could not pick it up because when they went to do the background check - they couldn't get through to the ATF.

Fucking bullshit! He said he'd call it in first thing in the morning, but that background checks were taking 45min to an hour on average.

---

edit to add: Finally my "instant background check", the one I have passed over 200 times went through this morning.

Only the government can call a background check that starts at 4:30pm on Thursday and completes at 10:00am on Friday "instant"...

Got home for Christmas. Only had a few days, so I didn't spend a whole lot of time setting up pictures. Following my trip to Florida in November a few pages back, I bought some stuff from my old shop. My wife wrapped it up while I was away at work, and set it under the tree. So while technically not Christmas presents, I got the whole Christmas experience.

These are both Bravo complete uppers with Bravo bolt groups and charging handles. The lower one is a Kino, with the gas block and front sight base separate, the later in the mid-length position. I bought these with the idea that I would build them to identical configuration. This way, when an event pops up without enough notice to get the travel forms filled for the shorty, I'd have the nearly identical midlength.

I bought two identically configured Bravo lowers, two Centurion rails, and two EOTech 512s for them. However, I chickened out when I went to cut the delta ring off the shorty. I am thinking of going in a very different direction and replacing the A3 receiver with an A2. It would be the retro-rifle that never was.

Here is the 16" upper sitting on my test-mule lower. It will look identical to this when my Bravo lowers get in, except they will have black furniture:

The other thing of interest is the MOE K grip in the box in the first picture. It is very slim, short, and has the 15 degree grip angle. It is supposed to make it easier to maintain good form in the squared-off firing position that is en vogue these days. I am going to stick it on my super-shorty and see if I like it.

Nice stuff as always Johnny. Damn your hide.

Went deer hunting this morning with my husband-in-law (ex-wife #2's spouse) at O Dark Thirty.

This little piggy was too busy eating hickory nuts to hear us walk up on him as we rounded the corner. Good thing one of us carries a back-up, because neither of our rifles were chambered. I shot him with my trusty new .45 Para-Ordnance. Since this male was under 100lbs and it was cold as all fuck - he was eligible for the freezer.

He did not get to go squee squee squee, all the way home...

---

My fellow jarhead was pissed because we were supposed to be deer hunting and I'd up and shot a hog before we got to the stand, but he got a good sized doe and got over being a little drama queen. Deer hear gunshots all day during hunting season and we were at least 300 yards from our stand when we came across Wilbur. So, no harm, no foul.

I thought hunting with flashlights was illegal?

Then again thats a fucking boar. All bets are off rounding a corner seeing one of those.

I've helped some friends with feral pig problems in the past. I started out with a lever .357, but after getting tree'd once, I am now semi-auto all the way. We kept the meat the first time, but I thought it tasted like crap. The local food banks wouldn't take it, either, probably due to an over-abundance of supply. Yours may taste a lot better depending on what they were feeding on.

It was unbelievable how much crop and property damage these guys could cause, and how quickly they could breed. Thanks for doing your part for the American landscape.

Nobody was hunting with a flashlight for fucks sake. It was the crack of dawn, we turned the corner and there was Wilbur waiting to be shot and turned into bacon.

Yeah, depending on their diet, they taste pretty good or not. Here, they eat mostly acorns, hickory, and clover. Pretty damn tasty.

Any male over 100lbs tastes crappy due to the tarsel scent glands. Sows taste fine, regardless of weight.

Knowing the reputation of belgian boars, I would not exactly be keen to shoot one at random with a .45ACP.

Where did you aim, DammitBoy?

Shot him right in the ear, my follow up shot hit him in the neck, but he was already done for with the first shot. I routinely practice double taps with my .45 and the follow up shot just happened reflexively. He dropped like a brick, right where he stood.

This was an immature male that dressed out at something like 80lbs, so not too concerned with him shrugging off the .45 acp round. He didn't see, hear, or smell us and I got a pretty decent profile shot at him. He was within fifty feet of us. I carry Hornady 230 grain +P ammo in the Para which has excellent penetration and expansion - some of the best ammo on the planet. Hornady claims 950 fps from the muzzle, but I expect it's more like 875 fps in the real world.

When I go hunting hogs (on purpose, not during deer season) I normally take my Ruger Blackhawk in 45 long colt and have taken angry large males over 350lbs without having to climb a tree or resort to my backup (which is always the Para). Those are tougher shots because the boar is running straight at you, screaming, slinging his head from side to side and throwing dirt in the air with his tusks. Besides the extreme pucker factor, you are being presented with the worst possible shot, a moving head complete with body armor and blocking the vital organs.

This was cake by comparision. Check out this vid for penetration results and wound cavity info: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ct33tKvpKo

Hornady, when you care enough to send the very best...

I think i puckered a little bit just reading that that is what you do. You purposely go out and shoot charging boar? You are fucking crazy dude.

I hunt pheasant. One time I dropped one flying right at me and it tumbled onto my boot. He was trying to peck my eyes out, I'm sure.

It's like Lion Country Safari dude. A frikken adrenalin rush like you would not believe. One of the very few animals in North America that really wants to fuck you up. Bears and wolves and cougars would rather just get away from you unless cornered or protecting their young. Wild boar will actually hunt you back. Plus, they are much smarter than any other game animal in North America. Like scary smart. Like velociraptor sneaky setting up an ambush and waiting for you smart.

Pretty sure I posted this last year of a wild boar I took with a shotgun? The tractor bucket will give you an idea of how big these brutal fucks can get. Keep in mind that bucket on the tractor is about 7' wide. If I remember correctly, I think he weighed in at 385lbs?

I hunt deer and turkey for food because they are tasty. I hunt wild boar because it's fun. Shooting a deer is like shooting a cautious cow. Shooting a charging boar is like taking on an angry rhino and winning. Plus they are a pest animal with no natural enemy/predator and they eat all the food that you want the deer and turkey to eat. Plus they can do about $1000 worth of crop damage per hog per day. Nasty bastards.

Nice shorty, Johnny. I've never seen a setup like that before. If they aren't banned by the time I've got an extra $700 lying around to burn, I think I may do my first NFA build with one.

Going hog hunting is on my to-do list, but I'd nope right the fuck on out of there if I saw a monster like that.

Got a new toy coming in this week. Will post pics when it arrives.
