The Guns and Ammo Thread

I wouldn't know, I can't find any ammo. Walmart is cleaned out (bare shelves in every store, even shit like 20g and .30-06) and it's being said that they aren't going to restock. I've still got a little over a thousand 9mm left (only ~140 .223), so I'm not running out tomorrow but this is forcing me to seriously cut down on my range time right after I dropped $200 on a membership.

Thanks, Barry.

Go to a gun show, but go early - like an hour before the show opens the first day - and bring lots of money, it won't be cheap.

Whats odd is that not all guns are going up in psycho costs.

I just contracted for another 9mm carbine (Sten) to be built. $600 for shipping parts and labor (some pieces have to be hand made).

New full length tube for 16" barrel and perforated barrel jacket. Vertical feed like on an MP-40 so its going to look slightly different from normal stens.

P.S. that Sten Pistol of mine pattered better than an XD-9 both using iron sights for two shooters... one of which was the owner of the XD-9 and had a serious stake in not looking like an ass for the "my ugly gun shoots better than yours bet".

Not odd at all. Anything military or anything AR-15 style has gone through the roof.

You want a real good price on a lever action, a bolt action, over/under, etc. right now is the time to buy.

My next purchase will be the Ruger Gunsite Scout - which hasn't gone nuts because it's a bolt action.

meh, i was looking around for some kind of official gun/firearm safety course in my area, they all seem to be run by like local gun shops or the NRA.

i was hoping for something a little more official like FBI or local police.

i sent an email to our local FBI office like 3 days ago asking about one and have not received an email back yet.

about to send an email to our local police to see what they offer. wanted something official looking.

The best you might get is a recommendation from said police to one of the aforementioned gunshops/NRA. It's certainly like that here in SoCal.

The NRA even offer training courses specifically for law enforcement; it's often one of the places the cops get their own training. Just take the course.

Look for standalone firearms instructors (the ones that don't work in a gun store) and look into their credentials. Those guys are almost always ex law enforcement, so that's probably your best bet. The guy I took my CCW course from was an ex cop/swat and came highly recommended.

Yeah, just sign up for the local NRA course at a nearby pistol range. Do the basic course and then if you feel the need for further training, ask some locals who they recommend.

Don't go crazy. Save your money and buy ammo.

Yes willis, the gunsite scout only comes in .308 and I think it has a 16" barrel. It is a bolt action with a 10 round box mag.

Wow... I found enough parts to make two complete AK-47s (minus receivers) and a ton of spare parts (trigger groups, bolt carriers, trunnions etc.) I did not remember having that much left. I sold most of my parts off in 2003.

I also found a tub of chinese milled receiver buttstock sets... I think there are 20-30 sets in there.

Rugar 18 Inch Available

Rugar 18 Inch Available

Went to Rugar site and watched promotional videos, including ball bat stress test of polymer mag.

Spoiler alert: No JACKASS stunts, filled with dummy rounds.

Newer models have 18” barrels.

Does the 'safe' interchange with 7.62x51mm NATO apply to Scout Rifle, or is that a “Rugar” question?

FAQ @ http://www.ruger.com/service/FAQs.html#Q35

Can I shoot 5.56 NATO ammunition in my Mini-14 or Ranch Rifle?
With the exception of the Mini-14 Target Rifle, which accepts only .223 Rem. ammunition, .223 Rem. and 5.56 NATO can be used in all Mini-14 rifles and Ranch Rifles.
Please note that "Military Surplus" 5.56mm NATO can vary greatly in its quality and consistency.

What type of ammunition should I use with my Ruger rifle?
Only factory ammunition manufactured to U.S. Industry Standards should be used in a Ruger firearm. We specifically disclaim responsibility for any damage or injury whatsoever occurring in connection with, or as the result of, the use in Ruger rifles of faulty, or nonstandard, or 'remanufactured' or handloaded (reloaded) ammunition, or of cartridges other than those for which the firearm was originally chambered. Improper ammunition destroys guns!

Just not 308 Win specific. :(

Yeah, I'd give up a testicle for the stainless version w/ an 18" barrel, but they can't be had anywhere for any amount of cash. Most on gunbroker.com right now are going for $1000.00+ because of the general feeding frenzy. I got lucky yesterday and found one at gunbroker with a buy now option for $850.00, so I bought it.

It will probably get here next week, so these are just pics from the net. It can be set-up in various configurations, depending on what you want to use it for.

I'm probably going to go with the standard rifle scope config, mostly because the forward scope mount allows too much sunlight if the sun is behind you, which would ruin your ability to see anything in the scope from the glare. Very frequently, when hunting, your shots are taken at dusk or sunrise, so low angle light tends to screw with your scope viewing ability.

That is one neat little rifle. I'm very curious about how smooth the action is on yours as the videos I've seen have it looking particularly rough/sticky.

I handled a couple at the last two gun shows, they were pretty slick, but it is a long throw.

It's a Ruger with a Mauser action, I'm going to call that a win/win. If it's anything like my SR1911 for fit and tolerances, I'll love it.

I'm selling all of my rifle clips I have from the service. Getting $260! Yay me!

I'll abridge Phil-Dude's quote to one word. Color me 'curious'.

@ DammitBoy I never considered on line, gunbroker.com, before.

This rifle, these days, guessing any given day, suggested retail may be the offer.

Will have to enhance the hunter gather skills, see what's around.

SHOPPING! ... which is a sport onto itself!

Due to the gun buying feeding frenzy craze, everything is selling above msrp. Before this crap panic thing happened, it was easy to find good prices and bargains below msrp.

I'm seeing guns worth $800 selling for $2000. The rifle I'd love to have and was saving up for was $2400 - it is now sell for over $4000.

Gunbroker.com is my crackhouse and I am a crackhead. It's a great way to research current market trends for anything you have or want. You can go to the advanced search engine and see what something has actually sold for in the last 30-60-90 days.

The way I found my Ruger Gunsite was by modifying my search. I had been doing a search using "ruger gunsite scout .308" which always gave me about 15 hits and they were very popular with other visitors to the site. You can see how many times an item was viewed, how many have bid on an item, and when the bidding ends down to the minute.

When I changed my search to "Ruger .308" I found several Gunsite Scouts hidden because the peope auctioning these guns listed them as "Ruger M77 .308 gunsite scout" so there were very few viewers who saw these items and I was able to leap on a buy now feature instead of waiting on a bidding war. I was abe to buy my rifle for about $200 less than people bidding on the exact same rifle in other auctions.

So yeah, it is a treasure hunt.
