You thought I was talking about the gun?
Theoretically yes, but it's not like anyone monitors what the Saudis did with them.Hassknecht said:Yeah, but the Saudis would need permission to resell those guns to Libya.James Snowscoran said:Didn't they sell a bunch of those to the Saudis? I'd imagine that's how it found its way into the Libyan armories.Hassknecht said:There are a lot of surviving MP40s all over the world, it's not unusual to see them with militias and partisans.
But the libyan rebels were also found to have looted quite a few G36s from the libyan army, and Heckler&Koch is now looking to find out who sold those rifles to Libya in the first place because there was no permission to export those to Libya.
FN-H sold many F2000 + EGLM grenade launchers and FN303 riot control weapons to Libya under special export license as they were to be used for an African Union peace keeping mission in east africa (escorting food convoys).James Snowscoran said:Didn't they sell a bunch of those to the Saudis? If they can get hold of some of those rifles it shouldn't be too hard to figure out how they ended up in Libya, provided they implemented some sort of tracking system before shipping them off to the middle east...

Yes, even the Czechoslovak 11th infantry battalion fought there along with Allied forces, defending Tobruk against the Afrika-korps.SuAside said:Libya was one of the main battlefields of Northern Africa in WW2...

Another suspect would be the Bundesnachrichtendienst (german intelligence agency), who trained Gadaffi's security force.
MP -> SMG -> assault rifle -> battle rifle.Sabirah said:What's the difference between an SMG and an assault rifle? they both seem to fire rapidly so I dunno why people still used SMGs

Machine pistol is a pistol sized pistol caliber fully automatic weapon. (9x19, .45ACP, 10mm Auto,...)
Submachinegun is a slightly larger (with the option of having a stock) pistol caliber fully automatic weapon. (9x19, .45ACP, 10mm Auto,...)
An assault rifle is a fully automatic (or burst) rifle that fires intermediate cartridges. (5.56x45, 7.62x39,...)
A battle rifle is a semi or full automatic rifle that fires full sized full power cartridges. (7.62x51/.308Win, .30-06,...)
The odd duck in the pond is the PDW, kinda depends on the source. No fixed definition for it. basically somewhere between SMG & assault rifle.
Edit: There's more of course... LMG, GPMG, HMG,...
