Saw Star Wars The Force Awakens...

Liked parts of it, but hated most of it. Typical Abrams spectacle over substance garbage that he had in his two Star Trek shit-pieces.

Also the writers, which apparently includes Lawrence Kasdan shockingly enough, have no idea how The Force works. It's mind-boggling how similar this is to most fan films that take them seriously that I've seen. This is basically a multi-million dollar fan-film that someone said previously. And it is not a good one either.

Movie audiences are gonna love it though just like they loved the other nostalgia-driven trainwreck that was Jurassic World earlier this year. The human race is doomed.

Funny I feel the exact opposite. Way better than the Prequels, starts off slow, finishes strong leaving me wanting more...it didn't fuck the characters up, the new actors all did very well. Jurassic World shouldn't even be mentioned alongside this movie.

But you have to be fair, going lower than the Prequels was almost impossible.

Well they took the New Hope scenario and replace the characters name here and there, so it can't be worse.

Wait... what was the point to blowing up the EU, if the point of it is to let the writers more liberty in creation, and at the end all they manage to do is a remake of the New Hope called Force Awakens?

I loved it minus one or two parts. I took my wife to watch it since I am such a big fan but she never watched any of them before. She liked Force Awakens so much we went home and watched the whole original trilogy the same night.

The comparisons to New Hope are valid considering the Hero Myth is one of the most consistent formulas in story telling, so it does get repeated a lot beside the fact that the stories aren't THAT similar. Sure, you have some Death Weapon that needs to be destroyed and some sort of aerial dogfight ensues but that shit is what Star Wars is all about.

"Harding, why don't you knock off the bullshit and get to the point?"
" ... This is the point. This is the point, Taber, it's not bullshit.
I'm not just talking about my wife, I'm talking about my life! I can't seem to get that through to you!
I'm not just talking about one person, I'm talking about everybody! I'm talking about form!
I'm talking about content! I'm talking about inter-relationships! I'm talking about God, the Devil, Hell, Heaven!!!
Do you understand!? Finally!?"
"Harding, you're so fucking dumb I can't believe it."

Actually, I wasn't, but how can someone seriously love the Star Wars prequels? :ugly:

Enjoying SOME of it, alright. But outright love? Seriously, that's no clue ... like saying, I love a turd. Yeah, or that you love to eat pig slops. :V

It just makes no sense :P

Well, I *love* them because I am a Star Wars fan and they are good Star Wars movies. I am also able to form my own opinion instead of mindlessly going along with the internet hivemind that think Mr Plinkett isn't a moron who lies about the movies in order to create an artificial standpoint in order to make himself seem smart and correct when in fact he is full of shit. :P

I would give you a point ... if the movies would not be actually there. For everyone to watch. Like. In real. I have seen them. And ... they are shit :ugly:

Is Plinkett lying about WHY it is bad? No clue. I don't care what Lukas thought, or why he did those things. All I know is, those movies are bad :V

*I hope you do realize that I am not completely serious, but still, the movies are the equivalent to pig slop, but if you like it, well than you like it.

I'm not speaking for you, but talking to the people I know in real life, when they give me their reasons for not liking them, they'll either just tell me to watch the Red Letter Media reviews or they regurgitate exactly what they say.

I have a friend who liked them when they came out. He doesn't acknowledge this at all. He says he's always hated them. But when Phantom Menace came out, he and I would drive up to L.A. (we're in San Diego) to see it on the big 70mm screens they had up there like the Cinerama Dome and the Westwood and all those old types of theaters that support large format films. He would not have done that if he didn't like them. Now when he talks about them all he does is repeat stuff that the haters are saying or something because I know he liked them when they first came out. He's experiencing some strange form of cognitive dissonance. :P

I also remember the overall reception to the Phantom Menace being a lot more positive. It wasn't until a few weeks after that that the backlash started happening. Pretty sure it was over 70% fresh on rotten tomatoes at the time. It was only when the 3D re-release came out that a ton of negative reviews were published that drove down the percentage. I really think there was a campaign of some kind to pollute the hivemind with this nonsense that they're "bad" movies. Nothing else makes sense. :P

But if you don't like them, that's fine. As long as it's your opinion and not based on someone else's is all I'm saying. ;)

Actually I enjoyed watching it, if that's your point, and I saw it cinema. The point is, it was mediocre fun. There is nothing exceptional about the movies that I really remember.

I am convinced no one will ever be completly happy with another Star Wars or Start Trek...ever. I keep hearing people claim Rey was a Mary Sue when she was probably the most interesting new character introduced in the series. People really need to go back and watch Return of the Jedi, then the Prequels, then claim Force Awakens is some awful Star Wars movie because I am leaning towards Force Awakens being one of the better movies in the saga. I could speak on this at great length since I am a huge Star War fan but I won't since people are so negative about it.

Dude,
she did a jedi Mind Trick on her first day using the force....
if that doesn't sound off your Mary Sue alarms I don't know what will....

Also, Finn's arc made no sense

He doesn't want to kill anymore so he proceeds to kill hundreds of people while celebrating a lot of his kills

It was also very poorly paced

And Darth Solo should've kept the helmet on.... Jesus Christ.... who chose that guy? He looks nothing like Ford or Fisher.... he looked like out of a comedy movie

Sure, and Luke blew up the Death Star without using tech and Anakin piloted a starship when he was 8 years old. These minor gripes are silly to me in the context of a mystical FORCE that guides our actions! THE FORCE MAN!

We know nothing of her origins, or how sensitive to the force she is. For all we know she is Luke or Leia's daughter however unlikely that might be.

How did Luke ever manage to use the force without being taught how to use it? One session with a remote isn't much... In Empire he used Force Pull to grab his lightsaber when he was never taught that in the movies. I always assumed that they can "feel the force" and let it guide them. I do believe there is some EU backstory about that but I never cared for researching it.

She went up against another Sith trainee, not against a full blown Sith, so that whole argument about her taking on a Sith is blown out of proportion. Not only was he weakened by Chewbacca's Crossbolt but he was worn out by Finn. Kylo Ren was about as green a Sith as we have ever seen. I have no doubt he will improve greatly by the time the next movie comes around.

Personally I was glad to see a female who could wield the force. She is the natural progression from Leia, who was the female role model of the original trilogy. Now the new trilogy meant for an entire new generation of kids can offer something similar.

Feels good man.

As for your Finn comment. He didn't want to murder innocent people anymore, so he went and fought the good fight. How does that not make sense?

I do agree Kylo Ren has some goofy looking ears but he did a good job. He acted like Anakin should have when he was turning to the Dark Side. The tantrums were actually pretty cool. You get the feeling he never had a good father figure to sit him down and tell him to chill the fuck out.

In the first Movie Luke didn't pull Obi Wan tricks, and in the second movie he had at least a week of trainning with Yoda, and he still lost against the more experienced fighter. Pulling a piece of metal close to himself and reading minds / Controlling people are very different. Also Kylo Ren stopped a fucking Blaster in mid air with his force powers and seems to be able to read minds, he is not a novice, he at least has been using the force longer than a single day.

A female who can wield the force is nothing new man, watch the Clone Wars cartoon (both the Tartakovski one and the CGI one). Plenty of those there, and they aren't such transparent Mary Sues.

Dude, if you decide to leave the US because you grow disillusioned with them would you immediately start killing your buddies from school with glee and celebrating your kills? Would you blow up an airport as you leave the country without a lick of remorse?

Using the force to guide a missile from that distance is a pretty impressive feat. He also managed to elude Darth Vader while attacking the Death Star enough for Darth Vader to sense his abilities with the Force. In the second movie he used a Force Pull with zero training in that ability.

Rey knew about the legends of Jedi Knights, Han confirmed them as all true, so she experimented with the powers while captured and on the defensive. I don't see any problem with her managing to pull off a few tricks while under pressure. People act as if the Force is just some passive thing that people control. It has the ability to influence your actions. You can clearly see during the fight with Kylo Ren the point when she clears her mind and the Force takes over. Stopping a blaster in midair doesn't mean shit when you are wounded, just killed your father, out numbered, and a whiny bitch who was so surprised that Rey could defend herself that he was thrown off. He was not a fully trained Sith. He had natural talent partly from being Leia's son, partly from being trained by Luke. His training was not complete as shown by the end of the movie. Kylo Ren will come back in the sequel full Darth Vader mode.

If it was a male protagonist people wouldn't be complaining I feel. She showed more impressive feats partially because we know nothing about her. They left quite a bit open for the next movie. Finn killing people that he now knows to be evil is not a big twist. He believes in the Resistance now. He was raised and brainwashed by a group of fanatics and now he sees things for the way they are. Not a big stretch to go from not wanting to kill civilians to killing enemy combatants.

For the record if my country blew up 5 planets I would have no problem blowing some of them up in retaliation.

I don't watch the animated stuff. I'm talking about the movies.

Edit: I bet some might think her fixing the Millennium Falcon when Chewie and Han had problems for years might be a Mary Sue moment, but they have been bumbling with that thing for decades. They suck as mechanics. Haha.

Fuck it bums me out. I want to go watch it again and people act as if Abrams fucked their mums. I also went into the movie with zero expectations and no knowledge of the movie so that helped.

Personally I go to this guy to get his opinion on movies. He loves film making and it shows.

Next you will tell us Fallout 4 is a true Fallout game :ugly:

Poor Toront, looks like we lost him to the Dark Decline.

Just joking. I have yet to watch The Force Awakens. So who knows? Maybe I will find it very entertaining, and we are a community that can get very sour after all, no matter the topic.

But to say this, I still can't forgive JJ for Star Trek. It seems every Trek movie gets worse. The first one was alright. Not good Trek, but a decent action-sci-fi-flick. The second one was garbage. And the trailer for the new one looks even worse. And some people seriously think, omg! This will be a REAL Trek! It's about the FRONTIER! Yeah. No. Go watch the fucking series, idiot. And than tell me how much of Trek is in visible in the trailer.

But seriously. Don't. Say. The. Prequels. Are. Good. Just dont. I mean all I have to say is one thing. Midichlorians. That's all. Nothing more. Lukas fucked it up royaly. :yuck:
