The Ultimate Movie Thread of Ultimate Destiny

I watched Rushmore for the first time since I saw it in a theater in (I guess) '98. Hard to believe it's almost 15 years old. Hilarious. I really like Wes Anderson comedies.

I love Wes Anderson, but I wasn't a big fan of Rushmore. It was good and Billy Murray was amazing in it... I don't, it just didn't get to me like Royal Tennebaums did.

I saw 30 Mins or Less a few days ago. Pretty funny, they had the perfect actors for it.

Going to see 21 Jump street tonight, I've heard nothing but good things about it so I'm going in with high expectations.

Saw Shutter Island (streaming on Netflix right now). It's decent enough, though dragged at times. The twist ending was a bit out there but I guess it was as unexpected as it could have been.

I have decided though that fuck Leonardo Dicaprio. He is like a white, young Morgan Freeman: does his roles well, is believable, doesn't break immersion but plays the same damn character in every movie. At least Morgan Freeman is too likable to hate and is related to Gordon Freeman but this guy just tries too hard to be intense with his Newt Gingrich frown and absolutely nothing else. I hope Tarantino squeezes something new out of him in Django.

Just came back from watching The Killer Nun, or Suor Omicidi, a cinema close to college is having an event this month called Zinema Zombie, which is showing a bunch of B-movies in a pretty comfy theater.

Killer Nun was hillariously bad, spent the whole time riffing on it with a friend.
You can't go wrong with Italian Video Nasties.

Next Week I am watching Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla.

Haha Maximaz with the Newt Gingrich frown. Spot on! -10points if you heard that somewhere else.

I saw Hunger Games tonite. I really like the world/setting it is in, but the tweenie sub plots and PG-13 violence keep it from getting full marks. I recommend it to watch at home, since it is 2.5 hours long. I had to get up and stretch my knees during the last 10 minutes.

Anyway I think its cool that the PG-13 movies of today are definately not the PG-13 movies of when I was growing up. (which wasnt super long ago)

Saw Shutter Island

I once caught the very ending on television, and hadn't realised what I was watching. I was completely freaked out, and now I don't want to bother watching the movie fully through, because I know the ending!

Watched two movies today.

Carnage: Awesome stuff! Christoph Waltz and John Reilly FTW!

Fallen: Pardon my language mods but fuck you Gregory Hoblit! This had to be the crappiest piece of dog shit I've seen since The Wicker Man. The only good thing about it was John Goodman. Poor fella!

Tower Heist. Best type of role for Eddie Murphy and he delivered. Unfortunately, he is the only one who did and there isn't much of him in the movie. The rest is extremely stupid and unfunny snorefest. Disappointed big time.

Old Boy: One of the best movies I've ever seen, it was dark, twisted and tragic. It has some of the best scenes I've ever seen in a film. I highly recommed it. Just don't watch the dubbed version, it's just bad.

Also watched Postal a few days ago. Not bad, not great. Better then what you expect fro a Uwe Boll film. Few laughs, shit story.

The Royal Tenenbaums is the only one of his movies I haven't seen, and I'm really looking forward to it because I've heard such good things from other Anderson fans. The odd thing about Rushmore is that it seemed much funnier than I remembered. I kind of agreed with you before I watched it again. Maybe it's because Anderson's style is more established now, so it's easier to understand what he's trying to do.

Have you seen Bowfinger? I wish Eddie Murphy would do more collaborations like that. He works best that way, which is why he was so good on SNL.

You and I was some weird crap! Not sure if I'm supposed to hate it or love it. It had it's moments I guess.

This is the first Roland Joffé movie I watched, and from what I've read so far, it definitly isn't his best work. *waves at The Killing Fields*

Yep. Loved Bowfinger. One of the most underrated comedies ever if you ask me.

Heh thats weird I was just thinking about Chubby Rain, Steve Martin and Eddie Merphey, their careers, and how thinking about all that stuff just pisses me off. Eddie Murphy was the only thing I liked about Tower Heist. We need 80's coked up completely inappropriate Eddie Murphey back full time.

Remember all those SNL greats! And their careers today?! How depressing. What happened? Can someone please explain?

Who are you thinking of, specifically? I mean, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Bill Murray -- those guys are all still working and successful. Maybe they're past their prime, but that's unavoidable.

I have a bigger problem with the Adam Sandler generation of ex-SNLers. They're all coasting on their previous success, which I don't think is true of the 1970s SNLers.

Total Recall trailer is out. All I have to say is wow.

Not only does it look like the most generic sci fi original bullshit, Farrell's acting is hilariously shitty. His 'badass mode' transformation had me loling like a maniac.
